Choosing the best tank for raiding.

qombiqombi Member UncommonPosts: 1,170

Hello all,

Since my last question about the game my friends and I have given the trial another shot and I appreciate the constructive post I recieved. I love to tank in MMORPGs and I like to be the most efficient tank as possible. I notice there are alot of choices in EQ2 as tanks but I know there is probably one that outdoes the rest as usual in these MMORPGS.

Any experienced EQ2 players know which class I am looking for? (My son wanted the banana guy in the post. )

Awesome very kind of you for the information!

Edit: My friend was curious to what is the primary top healer in EQ2 as well. Is there one particular one that is the best?

Yep guardian is the best tank hands down... in fact Guardians are just made for tanking with their thick heavy armor and shield and all their protective skill and aoe taunts.... Berzerker is a good tank too in a pinch but they're kinda better for their support tank/melee DPS. In wow terms, the guardian is the protection warrior while berzerkers are the arms/fury warrior.

Clerics (Templar/Inquisitors) > Shaman (Mystics/Defiler) > Druids (Warden/Fury)  are the best healing classes in the game. If you want hands down healing the priest class are the best (Templars) but they have lower offensive capability. If you want good at healing and soloing then the druid class (fury/warden) are great. I myself play a fury which is an offensive druid (specialize in AOE oriented offensive spells with a lot of Heal over Time spells) if you want a more healing type of druid then warden is your class. I think the difference in them is the degree of specialization and efficiency. For example all priest archtype can heal/rez/buff  just that templars can heal the best and be the most efficient at it. Also the difference are in their buffs, etc.

That's cool, I was wondering where the Paladins and other hybrids fit in to things. I started to dislike WoW because of Blizz changing it to where hybrids are close to almost out performing the Prot Warrior as of late. WoW is still a blast though, I only love their dungeons. The community is bad but if you have a decent guild it isn't that bad. Thanks again.

I know what you mean in the recent patches they made wow paladins heal as good as priest or sometimes even better than priests and retribution pallies outperforming even prot warriors. In EQ2 the paladins are holy warriors with more on the warrior side than healing side (they're classed as melee support fighters). Sure they can heal but their heals can never be as good as a priest/cleric's heal nor they tank as well as pure tankers. As hybrids they are kinda jack of all trades.

You must see eq2 and split between group/raid

for groups ..any tank can tank and any healer should be fine

as where in raids you want to go max efficient. On my server every raid wants mystics

but that may be cause its a pvp server..every side misses some classes of the other

    ;)

just to add...EQ2 got more dungeons then WOW..as far as i know

and some realy realy funy quests and instances..thats why i came back

    *nod nod*

and dont save the oney for splitpaw and bloodlines..theyre great fun to do

The lowdown on the healer classes in a nutshell:

    3 Archtypes: Cleric : Shaman : Druid

Clerics: Primarily cast reactive heals.  These are heals that trigger when the person gets hit and heals them for some amount a set number of hits.  Lasts for a period of time and then must be recast.

Templar:  Biggest heals in the game.  Direct heals are slow to cast but heal for more than any other healer.  Has great group buffs and some debuffs.  Creat curing ability.

Inquisitor: Basically the same as the cleric, but is evil.  Excellent offensive buffs and debuffs.  Preferred for raiding Main Tank groups due to the specific buff set they have.

Shaman: Casts wards that prevent damage by absorbing it.  Can also heal, has the slowest heals in the game.  Can give up their own health to heal someone else.  Excellent buffs.

Defiler: Preferred Main Tank shaman for raiding due to buffs and some other abilities.

Mystic: Excellent warder, excellent buffs.  Not as many debuffs as the defiler.

Druids:  Most mana efficient healers. Primarily heals using HoTs (Heals over time).  Also has good direct heals.  Can cast faster than any other healer.  Also has utility spells and buffs.

Warden: Considered a more defensive healer. Excellent heals, decent DPS, good buffs.

Fury: Considered an offensive healer.  Excellent heals, good DPS, good buffs.  A fury can heal just as good as a warden, the problem is that many players play them like a DPS class and don't focus on learning to be a good healer.

Druids are a very popular class on the Everfrost server.  Can't speak for other servers.

Class population on Everfrost by most rare to most common.

    Inquisitor (Most rare)

    Defiler

    Mystic

    Templar

    Warden

    Fury (very common)

Anyway, I hope that helps some.

Just has to say that I kinda disagree that statement. The healer classes in EQ2 are very balanced when you look at the healing bit. Personally I can't say that one healer class is better at healing than the other one. I can say what type of healer I like to play over the other ones, but its only better for myself and my style.

It's hard to actual compare them, since everyone heals a bit differently. In raid it's not necessary one type of healers that are needed, but the right combination of the healers. A raid with 6 healers, and if you put in 6 healer of the same class you will probably fail. The trick is to get all the healer archclass into the raid.

In group plays. Every healer can solo heal if played right.
