SOE has announced that the dev team from Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, which had been operating out of Carlsbad, California has moved to the SOE San Diego campus. Of note in the announcement is the fact that not all employees from the old office will be making the move.
The Vanguard development team is relocating its offices to SOE's San Diego campus effective Monday, October 15, 2007. As part of the integration into the SOE family, the developers will benefit from having access to shared resources and the combined experience of SOE's other game development teams. As a result, not every Carlsbad employee has been invited to stay with the development team.
Under the new leadership of Thom Terrazas, an eight-year SOE veteran, SOE will continue its commitment to Vanguard and its players. The remaining Vanguard team members are going to continue to deliver on an exceptional product. They are a creative force in the online games space and we look forward to continuing the vision for Vanguard and to continue to deliver groundbreaking game play. SOE remains committed to seeing Vanguard grow and prosper.
Check it out for yourself on the Vanguard Forums.
Cheers,

So how many devs have been laid off now this month in the industry?
This is EXACTLY what happened with Origin before Ultima X: Odyssey (MMO) was canceled!
The assimilation continues.....
Ah, too bad. The devs had to move. And some were laid off. Gee.
I am someone who paid the $50 for the game and gave up after 4 days!!!! The lag was the worst I had ever experienced. So I am SO sympaththetic. I have never played such a laggy game. Servers decreasing???!!! Gee. I wonder why??? Why don't you devs go make another game that requires the high end computers to play...... Job security.. Haha. Have a nice day. And if possible, I would like a refund. Geesh.
Sounds like bad news, but if they actually wanted to make Vanguard a good game they could. But need a big group of devlopes to finish the game Sigil started. But its SOE and i see no reason to see that they will ever try to make this game into what it should of been.
SOE should really just scrub vanguard. Especially with AoC coming out, they are no doubt loosing quite a bit of money...
There will be problems for Vanguard (and there were already), but I honstely don't think that AoC is a part of this threat. Not because AoC might be bad, but because they aim to entertain a totally different audience. Haven't heard a single player in VG mentioning AoC (and I talked to alot leaving ones ).
damnit! soe needs to do two things.
Stop laying off devs.
Stop developing the game, and start fixing what they have.
Is that really too much to ask?

I wonder if Brad is still retained as a consultant? Ho ho ho. Funnily enough it sounds like they are finally getting it together now the Jolly green Ranger is no longer at the tiller.
I am afraid this only means that Vanguard days are numbered.
Cutting on the developement team, means that further content developement has stopped, they will keep fixing the game, but they don't have a long term project for the game.
Basically now Vanguard will join Matrix Online, games in the limbo which will stay alive until they stop paying themselves for the running costs.
Why are they even bothering? There's 4 people left playing this steamy load. You guys at SOE want to know what's going to really improve this game? Grab the power cords to the world servers in a big clump and yank.
hmm how do you know this? simple you dont! the pop has risen in the last 4 weeks. The people who play the game know this and those that probably have not played for the last 6 months dont. Ok i might be an optimist but rather that than sound like an ignorant fool. I have no facts to give you i admit thats why i just say what my opinion is. Show me where you guys/girls are getting your sfrom please! come on show me something to stop me laughing at you.
Then again...no! carry on friend!
anyway - read the announcement again and find some good news there - they didn't even try that hard with the "spin"
Have to wonder if they laid off any of the incompetent management that were the ones really responsible for driving the game into the ground.
Either way, it's not looking good for the game when the home studio gets closed. '07 has still be quite the year for MMORPG failures hasn't it? And we're not quite done yet.
Gotta wonder how many members of the "dev team" that participated in that interview over at Warcry on Sept. 27th (you know, the one with the positive preview of the games future) are now out of work.....
Typical anti-VG ranting.
I wonder if this downsizing is a plan to cut the cost base ofthe major purchase they just made and I wonder if many of the tasks and plans they have may utilise existing SOE resource from other games that they have under their brand.
Amazing how this bad news, and it is bad for those who have lost their jobs, comes at the same time as the positive news around update 3I do wish SOE well with VG as I would like to come back and play based on existing players recomendations on how its going. Damned if I am going to slam SOE as they picked this one up off sigil and are trying to make it worth its salts.
Good luck
To err is human....to play is divine
Seriously tho. Would you really expect SOE to truly make something of the game?
It's almost on Station Life support like Matrix Online is atm!
SOE doesn't do crap with Matrix Online either! Also a game they can improve in something a lot better to get more subscribers! Instead people are already complaining for over 6 months to get MxO running under Vista and the latest videocards!!
Seriously tho. I think SOE just tries to sqeeze every last bit of dime out of it to cut their losses and when the monthly subscriptions gets under a sertain treshold, its POOF! Bye bye Vanguard. Joining the ranks of AC2 and Auto Assault.
This cutting down on devs is exactly how it started with MxO when SOE took that over 2 years back. Its just the start!!
If you lived in San Diego, you would know the hell these people will now be subjected to day in and day out. Having to commute down I-5 to Miramar in rush hour traffic. About 15 miles of 10mph traffic, if that. You have not experience traffic until you experience I-5 at rush hour.
QFT
The only thing that comes close is LA traffic, but at least the LA freeways are designed by competent civil engineers.
Sure SD has the best weather anywhere, but there's a price to pay. And the city isn't doing any infrastructure upgrades. In ten years the traffic's going be even worse
Back on topic, I think the VG people are probably just glad SOE hasn't completely shut down the disaster that Sigil created. I don't envy their task of trying to make a car run when it never had a decent engine, exterior or interior design and ended up in a roll-over (just to keep up the So Cal traffic motif).
Heh, try Houston Texas traffic. After RITA we had the longest traffic jam in history (over 100 miles long). Houston's road are never finished, I lived there for almost 30 years and the construction has never ended... in Americas 4th largest city (3rd if you go by sq miles). I hate Houston!
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
