SerienSerien Member CommonPosts: 8,460

(i wrote a long post describing, but the servers reset and i lost it, so here's a summary)

well in all my coin collecting years i have not stumbled upon something like this...

can someone tell me what it is?

image

image

cause i have no freaking clue..

the front LOOKS like lady liberty standing between two ledges of some sort...if not then it's just a woman in a dress

the top of the front says "LIBERTY"

the back has an american eagle, from the side view so you can see both wings.

the top of the back says "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" under the eagle there are three stars, then under those stars it says "QUARTER DOLLAR"

it's in terrible condition..but does somebody know what it is?

thanks a lot, it would help

Looks like an old Liberty quarter to me. Nothing special. Can you make out the date?

Should be silver (not color, but the metal it is made out of).

If it is a 1916, it is very valuable, even in crap condition. Otherwise, it is not worth much...

They were made from 1916 to 1930.

Sounds to me like it might be one of those rare American Quarters. But, that's just my uneducated opinion.

Unless it is a 1916 or a 1924S, then it has to be in Mint or Near Mint condition for it to be valuable. If it is a 1916 or 1924S, then it has value at the condition in the picture, but how much is to be decided.

I agree. It looks very much like a libery. I'm sure you can find some online price guides for it. Check the year, and also the letter if it has one. There may be a D, S, or P. They represent where it was made. Denver, San Fran, or Phily. Libery quarters aren't something I've had much work with, but I'm sure you can find the info on the web. My oldest coin is i think around 1882 or so. Some dime worth a few buck last I checked. My most expensive penny is around $20 bucks. It's not an extremely rare year, but its a rare print. I believe an S VDB.

w/o a date or specific marking, your forced, at best, to assume its the elast valuable liberty in poor condition. Basically worthless. Maybe a buck or two.
