i wanna play but im concerned...

zanfirezanfire Member UncommonPosts: 970

ive been reading bout VSOH for a while now, especialy sience i got off FFXI. i bought EQ2, but it feels much more solo orientated, wich is ok, but being a big FFXI/EQOA fan im very used to and still loving more hardcore/group orientated MMOs.

this was supposed to be basicly a new gen version of  EQ1, or at least they say. i wanna really try this game, but i have a few concerns 1)can i run this decently(2g ram/AMD 500+/nivid 6150) 2) is this gunna have a future, i hear so much about how the pop is low, they server merged in less then a yr in, and they just apparently fired half there ppl. but then i hear they are gunna re-release w/a trial island/all the updates/re advertising. so whats the deal w/ all that? i dunno i think i might just go back to FFXI, i really dont like all these super solo friendly games, dont get me wrong there nice, just not what im used to/what i expect from an MMO, i wanna play w/a ppl.

You might wanna re-sub to FFXI then, cause I've been hearing nothing but bad stuff about this one. But, if you really wanna check it out and see if it is for you, then get that trial i guess. Just don't jump in head first, do some research.

RAM is fine, CPU as well but your GPU is just way too bad. Its one of the on-board graphic cards that surely won;t handle VG at all.

For VG its worth upgrading. It runs very good on x1950 which costs around 120$ nowadays. The gameplay is very enjoyable. This will get spammed probably soon by haters, but if you want to try its very cheap nowadays. And there is no better way to find out if you like it or not by trying it yourself.

just remember its a game friend and that your not gonna lose your life if you dont like it, just a few quid that's all. So try it, theres no need for research it's a game not a bloody science project lol! easiest way to find out is sub and play it, if you dont like, cancel and try something else :)

If you join up on Halgar give me  shout ( Tuor ) and ill give you a few pointers :)

well i dont wanna dish out more money right away, i knwo they are supposed to have a trial out soon, and i knwo they have some buddy thing, but i dont know anyone who has the game. 100+$ for another GPU and a 40$ game is a bit much for a collage student, sience i just spent 600$ on the comp and 40 on eq2 just a week ago.damn guess il just hafta wait til they do trial isdland, any idea when that will be out?

Probably January when the do thier " re lauch " of the game. I would hold out till then reguardless. Give sony a bit more time for the bugs. As far as soloable, you can solo a good deal of this game depending on what class you pick. Thats about par for most MMOs out there though

I dont think you will be able to play anything new on 6150 chipset nvidia onboard card.

How far have you leveled in EQ2? Once you get into the 20's+ it should be easier to find groups. The new expansion next month will also breathe new life in the lower levels with a new playable race. Vanguard is a resource hog, without a good video card I would not recommend buying it.

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

I actually doubt you can play EQ2 on 6150 either. Are you sure its 6150? Thats used nowadays only in notebooks not on desktop PC's.

im not 100% lemme re-check, but i play eq2 perfectly fine. lemme see, exactly says this: This desktop features NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE with 128MB of dedicated video memory, an addition to the main system memory, and 623MB total available graphics memory. This high-end memory is great for more demanding games or video editing.

  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

The high-end memory was maybe actual at year 2004 when it was made:> So the slogan probably came from that time. Well good you played EQ2 on it, but 128MB with that old MB integrated card won't handle much nowadays. Better if you stick to EQ2 if you enjoyed it and have good performance on it. You won't be able to run vanguard.

Honestly, i started playing vanguard about june, this game is so good it made me stop posting on this forums, my "search" is over.. problem is the game takes such high system requirements.. I would look into a x1950pro agp or pci-e before trying buying this game.. I've played wow, eqII, daoc, swg.. vanguard is a better mmo then anything on the market, that's my opinion.. i'm totally hooked.. unfornately due to the bad press it recieved, it's gonna take a while to rebound.. but man it's fun.. it's classes are different, and has the class balance correct..

well im going to update it eventually, after i acumulate funds for it. still got the dreaded "holiday shopping" to do, but id say by next yr. (after i got money back from gifts) il probly put money into it. thanks for the info, il probly be there for the trial island when it launches. laterz

Saw someone said a trial? Where??????

I have been waiting to try this, but will not fork over the cash for a full package...need a trial first, then I would see how I feel..

I have high hopes they will turn this around like they did EQ2...and I have some pretty good equipment to run it also..

    Cheers!

they apperently have been building a trial island for a little while now, as per the patch notes, when they will put it out beats me, im hearing dec./jan. probly.

  • shukes33shukes33 Member Posts: 1,051

They are starting to implement GU3 today which they are doing over the next few weeks. hopefully as soon as that is finished they should be putting in the trial isle. But theres nothing out at the moment friend. I am sure someone will post as soon as it's up so just keep watching :)

Bottom line with Vanguard if you have the money and patience, feel free to give it a go but it still very much "unfinished and unpolished" with a lot of performance problems.

That said you can still have a lot of fun in Vanguard, but only if you can get over the bugs, more than a few waxlike NPCs (seriously some of them look like they are out of a Playmobile farmyard set, others are very nicely done - as I mentioned, it feels unfinished), and crash to desktop issues.

The longer you leave it, the better Vanguard's performance and content should become.  SOE are still working on it, and have improved some things so far.  If you want a "line in the sand" of when to buy, when they release the "Trial of the Island" would be a good point to try - it would mean that they believe the game is in a state that will attract and keep players.  In it's present state advertising Vanguard hard would simply make the stability issues worse and cost them much of the remaining playerbase, as the chunk design for cities currently makes them "twitchy" to say the least when there are a decent number of players in there!
