Stephen Colbert is running for president!

In my opinion, it is huge!

I wasn't going to register to vote, but now I am.  This should be interesting.

  • a_namea_name Member Posts: 249

You bet I would vote for him. I'd rather see the state of the union address given to me in comedy than boring fist waving. It's all just jibber jabber anyway eh, let em get paid to entertain us.

he hasnt actualy said he would run he jokingly said he has decided to think about running but dont get ur hopes up.  I for 1 would vote for him you already have bloody bush in office what harm could a smart comedian do compared to a borderline retarded bush

  • fauxhallfauxhall Member Posts: 132

No he announced it 15 mins later on his show. But I would vote for him, if i was American. But he is only running in South Carolina, so its practally impossible for him to win. But he said he is running as Republican and democrat so he could lose twice.

His idea to run for presidency seems a lot like the Robin williams movie when a comedian decides to run for president. I'm betting thirty bucks thats where he got the idea.

Colbert is more middle of the line, while John is really left wing. Don't know if that would be a good mix.

Better to make a bear the vice prez. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. And lets not kid ourselves. Bears are the real enemy here.

Well I think in all honesty John Stewart is more intelligent and could be a serious politician, but considering who we have in office now, Stephen Colbert would be a big step up

John Stewart is a Canadian. I'm pretty sure presidential canidates need to be born in the US. Atleast I think I remember reading that like 15 years ago in 4th grade social studies...........

This makes me sad. I love Colbert, but he's going to take votes away from the legitimate democratic candidate.

  • He is running as a joke?  They made a movie on this.

Only republican i'd vote for president is Ron Paul. still looking at Dem. though.

Colbert has made a great point about the idiocy of media and society today. That celebrity is more important than policy. Have many/any of you media entrenched Americans even taken time to look through the candidates policies and agendas? What does Colbert stand for? His persona is an adopted one for media, playing off the O'Reily style of presenting and ego humping. Open you god damn eyes people. Your capitalist system has destroyed any sense of national identity and replaced it with a For-Profit business model for government which leaves the poor disenfranchised, and uses the media to make you all accept middle class values so you don't give a damn whats happening to the world outside of your bubble.

    Although He mentioned:

Colbert/Huckabee (I think mainly because he likes his name)

    Colbert/Putin

    and of course

Colbert/Colbert.  How funny would that be?  Stephen Colbert the "character" as Prez and Stephen Colbert the real person as VP.

Although the real ticket I would actually love to see is:

Paul/Colbert ,  I think that one would honestly have a shot at winning.

LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:

Would somebody please delete this post or at least move it to the proper topic?  I don't have anything against it, I just hate it when the integrity of these forums is corrupted.  It doesn't belong in the Pub section.

Pat Paulson (sp) did this back in the late 60's or early 70's. It wasn't funny then and it still isn't.

This is a joke. First off the guy has no political bone in his body. Hes a comedian that reads off a teleprompter, who do you think does the shows material? Writers, ohh yes. This guy is a joke.

I hope people are not that stupid to think this guy would be a good candidate, based on the yes responses for the poll. No wonder the USA has problems.

So what political experience did Arnold Schwarzeneger have when he got elected to be Governator?

And do you think Dubya writes his own speeches? I think not.

And if Colbert can write books then I don't think he's not contributing to his show. In fact he won an Emmy for his writing.

The USA has problems because Colbert is a good candidate.

Arnold was a activist and a political person ever since he came to our country. As far back as I can remember from interviews etc. He was the American dream come true. Although cliche now it is true he did have many opinions on things. If he wasn't a good candidate he would of bombed every debate, he was on and gave solid political redirect and debated very well. He at least backed up his ideas with statistical data.

Just like many other real political people saying how this is a joke. So what are we to think when hes on serious topics and makes jokes of them or is always trying to be sarcastic, do you take him anymore serious then? I just think this is more of a PR move then anything, maybe he has a new show coming up.

Just about anyone can get on a presidential ballet now, hes going to at least try that. Then what? Where is his campaign strategy?

This is the same reason why USA is in trouble now, people vote on personality and not so much on the actual assumptions of will this guy be right for our country. When Bush got elected it was mainly because of his personality that people liked, the second time as well. You see if people would pay attention and pick people who talk about doing the job and not being a political panderer then we would have better candidates.

Yes.  Yes it is.  It is indeed a joke.  Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't understand Stephen Colbert's on air character's persona.  The Colbert Report Stephen Colbert would run in South Carolina on both parties tickets just to get a single delegate's vote and call that a win because he's an egomaniac.

The real Stephen Colbert is a successful liberal comedian that has said he would do anything to see a joke succeed, even if it means sacrificing his own dignity.  Why?  Because he's a comedian and that's a comedian's job.
