I seriously hope WAR won't let us down.

I miss UO.

I miss SWG.

I miss Earth and Beyond.

1 failed me because it decided to catered to the masses and removed the sand box aspect, another failed me cause the Devs didn't listen or ask what the community thought and just went ahead and killed - updated with a patch that wasn't necessary and the 3rd just didn't generate 'enough' money for the Man.

If WAR doesn't work out, I guess I'll just go back to RTS - SC2 and action RPGs - HGL...since no other MMORPGs announced shows any promise :(

I know what ya mean. But I'm playing Team Fortress 2 atm! That game has brought a lot of life back into FPS's for me, and should hold me off until WAR is released. ^^

Keep up to date on information and separate fact from fiction and then you can not over hype a game. Go in with a level head and do not set expectations too high, or the game will be a flop in your mind. Simple rules to follow before a game is released. But, good luck and I do hope this game is good for you. I am sure we would all like it to be a hit and to play with other quality people.

Don't create false expectations of the game and you'll be fine.  People have a tendency to build stuff up in their minds and then get made because the game/movie or book doesn't come close (and usually can't because its been put on such a high pedestal).

Also, you do know the the NGE for SWG was not SOE's idea don't you?  They were forced into that by Lucas Arts.  LA wanted the game to play more like WoW as they believed it would get them a much bigger piece of the MMO pie.  From talks I've had with a couple devs there was a great deal of objections about doing what was done to the game by the SOE devs but they were tied under contract so really had no choice.

This is one reason that I am hoping for a beta invite and everyone should be. I dont want in to play, I want in so I can test everything I can and I think from the way mythic has talked about current beta testers alot feel the same way.

The less nerfing and buffing after release the better. It looks bad and upsets people. No one should be happy when they pick a class, love the class, play for 3 months and then have all the stuff they liked nerfed into the ground because it was decided later that it was overpowered.

Bugs, lag, crashes, cheats and unbalanced game at release can ruin it fast. SoE did this with PlanetSide, imo that game had what it took to be a major game but SoE messed it up, bugs where bad, crashes all the time, weapons where so out of balance it wasnt funny.

Anyways as others have said dont over hype a game. Dont expect UO, EQ, SWG or WoW, expect WAR. Each game has things it can and cant do, you cant really compare everything about each game to the next. Unless Mythic gets damn lucky there is almost 100% chance something will be very wrong with WAR, who knows what it will be, what we should all hope for is Mythic to be on the ball here and not let problems go like some other companies like to.

I hated UO, old school and new. I hated SWG pre-NGE and I never played E&B and don't regret it.

I hope WAR has nothing in common with those games.

As long as WAR doesn't have a "ToA" like expansion I'll be happy.

Oh man the thought of that happening brings tears to my eyes. If WAR doesn't work out like I'm expecting it to, I'm done with MMO's..... atleast for a while.

after spending the day at work readin up and watching alpha vids i have high hope for this to be a breath of fresh air, and the one to get me into PVP MMOs...all we can do now is wait...and wait....cause we got a while

  • CzechCzech Member Posts: 42

Remember guys, never expect too much. Don't just fall onto Warhammer and decide to play it cause it has a good reputation. It doesn't mean that when released it will be as good as all the devs and people tell us.

If they'll make PvP good, if they won't make leveling and questing boring than they're making progress. But what I commonly think about MMO is, you can't really expect a lot of change, why... cause of the whole principle of MMOs.

Well anyways I do hope they'll make it work, can't wait to get back into beta. I hope I'll be plesantly surprised after getting back onto the server

You're not afraid of the dark, are you?

Thats a good point. If you dont expect it to be the greatest game alive, it might actualy become the greatest game alive to you. I, personally, don't like the game....But since i dont like the game watch me try it and think "Jumping Jack Rabbits Batman!"... I dunno why i dont like it... just something that bugs me about it that i plan to post a topic about...once i figure it out...

But yea if you do that with any game its better than hyping it up!

I think its the dwarf... maybe thats what i dont like...

    Expectations are funny things....

Take Neverwinter Nights2 for example; very high expectations (the game was rushed by Atari), that were not met. I was very disappointed

On the other hand the Expansion to that very same game Mask of the Betrayer, has exceeded its expectations by just about everyone and has included many long overdue fixes to the original game, on top of that almost all of the new content is available in the original game. I was pleasently suprised.

I never expected a expansion to actually be better than the original game. So when it was. I was ecstatic.

Honestly,  the best way to judge the game, is to take your experiance from previous games you have played and kind of make an average scale for what is acceptable and whats not.

Because if you go in expecting the be all end all of PVP MMOs, then your in for a rude awakening.

WoW is considered by most game site reviewers as one of the best (Or the best) MMO around, and if you have paid any attention to these boards you know WoW is not exactly loved by most of the poster's here.

Even Ray Charles and James Brown have songs people hate, whats good to me may be horrid to you.

Your going to have to judge when the game comes out, just don't be too harsh if there is no angelic chorus or God coming down personally saying "And behold! In the year of the Lord 2007, he gave unto them WARHAMMER ONLINE and all was right with the world" when you install and play the game.

I'm just wondering if Mythic is still running the show. From what I have read, many issues and questions went unanswered for some time due to Community Manager shuffling and mismanagement. May be bad for the beta testers lucky enough to be in the beta, but for the normal Joe User not in the beta, there is no real way to know what is going on outside of the newsletter.

Seeing that they closed the beta completely until December shows that EA Mythic is taking a step back and possibly reviewing the feedback they've received so far. Hopefully when the beta is re-launched, more testers will be invited.

One of the major complaints I heard from those in the beta was the lack of players. Of course this is second hand info, from a birdie.
