Meanest thing you've done to a Newbie player...

CzzarreCzzarre Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,742

We have all encountered them. At the begining of games we are all in the same boat... However, after the majority of players start tacking end game content, you find yourself

1. Badgered by someone looking for the door or zone exit

2. Asking for money

3. Asking for items

4. Asking for leveling help

5. Asking for guild invites

6. Random invites to a group from the other side of the game map

Most times we help, sometimes we get annoyed, and on the rare occasion...we get devious

Whats the worst thing you have done to an unsuspecting newbie player on a MMORPG?

just /ignore <player> if they are annoying you. SERIOUSLY, people needs to stop being an anti-social ass.

I'm a carebear, i help newbies, if i'm in the mood for it. But recently i'm more like a happy tree friend, and sometimes i just kill them if they get annoying.

Annoying Person:  /say Can ne1 spre sum $?

Annoying Person: /tell greslore can you spre sum $?????

Greslore: /1 Hear Ye, Hear Ye, If I may have everyone's attention please.  The almighty "Annoying Person" has kindly requested "sum spre $" from anyone whom would like to contribute to his cause.  Please fellow bretheren and sisteren, please dig down deep and donate to "Annoying Person", for he is indeed a worthy cause.  For it is terrible indeed to expect him to go out and kill lvl 1 mobs like the rest of us did for loot.  Now, be sure to tell "Annoying Person" directly how much you would like to contribute.

Hmm...in old UO i remember giving some gear to new people to help them out and then telling then to follow me so i can help him hunt.  Then killing him and taking the gear back.  Either that or i'd give him one of my trapped boxes.  After trammel was released i used to trick people into going through the portals to go to old world and since no one hunts in the old world the idiot usually gets zerged by monsters on the other end.  If it's not in a place he'd get zerged i'm follow and kill him.

In UO I would gate people to a rune marked in the Destard anchient wyrm room. I would spam *Good Vendor* through the gate, and people would walk in and get one-shotted by the wyrm.

I've also taken newbies in trammel to my house, asked them to join my guild, then kill / loot them and boot them from the guild.

Good old UO.  Those certain death recall runes were always fun.

"hear ye hear ye, this proud knight named ****** from the brave land of (make something up) is seeking a bit of coinage.  he'd would greatly appreciate any thing you can spare, especially in the case of him not needing to do anything."

    felt bored.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Used to have fly an TP on CoH, before you had to get permission to TP someone. All you had to do was invite to team, tell em you'll PL em in a higher zone... fly to the top of the world and drop em down into a group. Let the mob take em out before then could run away... ahhh... I miss those days...

This one is so easy. Lineage 2. I was level 35, the new player was 17 with a very hackerish name. He was in a zone, way way over his head, and kept whispering for adena. Adena, not so easy to come by, so I politely said no, and kept grinding. Next thing I knew he was shooting me with arrows demanding I help him. So, i killed him. The msg'd him, sorry I thought you were another mob, and encouraged him to wait for a friend to rez him. Friend shows up, rezzes, we kill him, opps, rez, kill, rez kill. He was dropping worthlesses all over the place.

    Good times.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

i believe you are talking about noobs

newbs are simply new players (not annoying ones)

treating newbs like shit isnt right, we all were newbs once

treating noobs like shit though i totally agree with, hell they dont even have to be high level, noobs are horrible

I've told this a couple times but it's worth telling again, cracks me up every time.

Way back in the day when me and my brother played eq he was a bard and grouped in the throne room in crushbone (just an area with some decently fast pulls).  I was a druid doing something elsewhere, don't remember what.

Anyway he starts sending me tells about this druid in his group, how he's not healing well, or not nuking or buffing, just not doing well at all.  Then silence... A few minutes later he walks into my room and says he meant to send me a tell saying, "Man, this druid sucks,"  but apparently said it in group chat accidently.  The druid replied that he was sorry it was his first day.

My brother never played that bard again.  Hehe.  Now our nephew  is just getting into games, and I rub it in by saying that could have been just a kid like rhylen.

    Still makes me chuckle.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

mmmmm lets keep the list to 3 ive played mmo's for 13-14 years btw i need to spice it up sometimes

    1. any question thats something they should know from reading what keys do what and stuff of that variety get a sentance or 2 that opens there trust to me in public chat followed by well if that didnt work try alt-f4

    wait 10 seconds

/tell <name of nooblet>  ......character not logged in

    chuckle chuckle

2.taken all items from them <armor they were wearing included> promising them better gear to made out of it and logging out .Logging back in 1 min later and getting the furrious tell from a panicked noobie and open a trade window with him put all his gear in it and logging back out again before completing trade and rinse and repeat a few more times mixing it up a bit.......usually if they take it well in the end i do drop a bit of coin and get em some descent gear for there lvl.

3.well to put it simply grief endlessly killing and camping the spawn they need

oh yea and jsut a little tidbit liek the bard story i've said countless things in group chat about ppl in group with me that are really harsh i mean really harsh when meant to go to someone else i was talking to but thats what happens when you are whispering 2 ppl and talking in guild and talking in group chat all at once it gets messy every now and than......but as to quitting a char over it makes no sense since the person u are tlakin bout obviously sucks at what they are doing and will never be any threat to me or any competant gamer as harsh as that is but ya there are different levels of gamers,  ppl who dont know what they are doing and ppl who do know what they are doing as well the ppl who work in the chinese sweat shops farming gold/items

things to remember after reading this : this is not done to any run of the mill noobie, only the ones who round town asking for items and gold endlessly and the really annoying ones...ya u all know the ones im talkin bout and if you dont than you must have been one of my victoms at some point in one game or another ,  also in closing like i said if they take it well its usually worth their time in the end to go through my miserable antics and shannanighans

In UO on several free servers.

    1) often kept a rune on my house that led to certain death, as mentioned above...also used to have a rune marked buccs den but it went to brit.

    2) tinker traps boxes, it got so bad with these around brit bank killing people...i made about 20 movies from it and they were funny as shit...pretending it was treasure and new players opening it and dying

    3) the worst thing though is this:  on one of the free servers there was no help stuck command.  a friend and I gated a couple new players to an island that they were permanently stuck on, and had to delete their characters since they had no friends to help get them off.

    usually im really nice though.

In the old UO, you could gate a newb to small, 2 square islands and then leave them there.....

At the time I would have said "If your lvl 60 and you DON'T know the Griff master in Rachet you've probably ebay'd your char" but truth be told it's possible but highly unlikely.

(yes I'm speaking of WoW, normally I'm very helpful and generous to newbies but WoW breed ignorance in a lot of players, not all but a lot)

SOOO with that in mind, worst thing I've done is tell a lvl 60 who asked me

n00b (not newbie cuz he was lvl 60) - "Where's the Flight Master here?"  (we were in Rachet)

Me - "Over there, that Orc"

n00b - "but he's got red text to me"

Me - Don't worry, he'll talk to you, he's just red cuz he's an Orc, but he's the neutral Flight Master"

n00b - "ok kewl" (notice no Thank you?)

n00b - "Man he killed me in like one swing!!!!"

Me - "And this concerns me how?  Next time talk to the Alliance Flight Master"

n00b - "Well where is he"

Me - "Over there, that Orc"

n00b (I KID YOU NOT!!!!) - "but he's got red text to me"

Me - at this point I was laughing so hard when he repeated the exact same thing he said earlier I really wanted to be rude but instead I had to break it to him since he was so helpless.  Everyone was laughing at him and I was getting a ton of whispers "man thats to funny", "ZOMG I can't believe he did it" etc etc.

    Another thing I did was:

newbie (or n00b you be the judge) - "Can I borrow some gold" (you guessed it, a lvl 5 begger)

Me - "Greetings Traveler, I am in desperate need of some ingredients for a potion I am making. If your willing I would like for you to gather some items, I need 10 broken raptor claws, 5 broken canine teeth, and 10 patches of fur, would you be willing to help me out?  [Accept]    [Decline]"

n00b (yah he was a n00b) - "if I do that I'll end up with the money I need though"

    Me - "you think?"

Oh here's a good one, get a whisper from someone who's NOT in the same zone with you asking to group with you to run a low level dungeon and you say "Ok, I'll be there" and about 10mins later he whispers me "where are you" and I replied "In UBRS why??"

Man that brings back so many memories of stuff i used to do.  One of the funniest was putting a  locked trapped box inside and a locked trapped box inside a locked trapped box etc... until it was max weight.  Then dropping it at brit bank and watching people axe it to find out what was inside.  My tinker was never able to leave my castle after that.

Oh and having runes marked bucc's den that went to brit was just plain mean.

Back in the day. When i played Everquest. I used to leave thousands of copper all in 1 stack in a newbie zone near some mobs... They would pick up the money and get encumbered and get whooped on by mobs... Definatly got alot of laughs doing that...

Back in my evil days of Diablo 2... Scamming... need i say more??

In WoW i would camp Sun Rcok Retreat for hours on my rogue....Not much to do once you have everything so camping was great :)

Was on a pvp server, made any ally on a trial account and convinced all the new alliance characters to type /pvp and got on my main lvl 70 and came and killed them all for a while.

Handing out MoD rods in EQ to all the newbs, or running around the newbie area droping them all over for the newbs to find, they pick up and click it, then die.  was amusing for awhile.

Amazes me how hard it is to actually be kind of nice in an MMO...

Here is a big thumbs up for being tools...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

In WoW some newbie asked me for gold so I opened trade with him and put 3000 gold on the trade screen . I told him I suddenly  got a lag spike and went afk. I checked back every 30minutes to see if he was still there. After an hour or so he was gone. He did leave a few pages of /tells begging me to trade though.
