Tabula Rasa was sposed to take the grind out of the mmorpg does it succeed? Richard G. once said the wack a mole type game play is history. With 5 years of development does Tabula Rasa have what it takes to make a dent in subscriptions of other current big mmo providers like Eq2 and WoW?
My personal opinion is Tabula Rasa is a FLOP. The Sci-fi mmorpg we all were waiting for, Not!!! It just doesnt feel like a mmorpg it feels like theme park world or something. Its just a bunch of people doing blah.
If you have some good points and some bad points about the game please list them here. I for sure would like to here why this game should be played or not.

Miss.
Miss. By a longshot.

Personally, I find TR a miss.
It did take the "whack-a-mole" gameplay out and put in "Shoot-a-mole" instead. And then the reward for doing it is well, small.. You're no different from the next guy pretty much, and so very limited in choices for your character.
The last of the Trackers
And it feels like a grind, early game...
Miss
Well it has grind in spades thats for sure, especially since they lowered the XP bonus for prolonged figthing, wich was the biggest innovation with the game.
You used to have x2-x6 times XP as bonus the longer you could stay in figth and keep figthing, I kept X6 up for over 40 minutes at one point, admittedly I gained a LOT of xp in that time, perhaps to much, but nerfing it to a factor of 3 was not the way to go.
I have not played much since wipe, mostly due to this fact.
It was grind yes, but it was fun, if you went over 10 seconds without attacking anything you bonus would reset and you had to start over, meaning that once you had that X6 you tried hard and you focused to keep it, time just passed at an incredible rate, wich is more or less what these games are about.
I only reached lvl 28 though and I am not sure I could have taken that pace much more.
Its a bit like the the asian f2p games, its fun to log in for 30 mins or an hour now and then and just kill some time, but they are all shallow as a puddle.
Kinda like reading a comic instead of a book, comics are great to kill some time and if you do not want to commit, but eventually you will want the depth from a good book.

Umbrood I totatally agree with what you just said and I that saying can be used with some other games too. Comic Book to Book refrence.
TR is a game that provides too many quests, poorly designed instances. Also, the mobs don't even fight back half the time. Every zone is an instance which means it isnt a true MMORPG. How are you on the same server if you are split in seperate zones from other players?
I believe in MMORPGs that place all players from 1 server in 1 zone. If they split it up that much, they are clearly going to save a lot on bandwidth. And then why would their game be worth $15 a month? Maybe $2,3 if they are going to instance like that
I like TR's gameplay and if the clases progressed better/had working abilties/had more cool abilities I would play it.
But I don't see how its taking any grind out of the MMOs. Well I guess I could maybe see it. But its a quest driven game with instances and those the defintely (at this point) the major xp rewards.
Now it does offer a pretty cool spawning model and Control Points. So in that regard there are aspects of the game where you can truly say you won't know what comes next. Whereas a typical EQ-clone has static spawns with obvious patrols etc etc.
But while I like that and its interesting, it does not make it non grinding. And other than Control points the game is pretty standard in a lot of ways. I really like the huge control point fights though.
I think your guys' expectations of new releases is too high. Nothing new coming out will satisfy you. Not even that one game your looking forward too. MMORPGs aren't perfect on release, just get used to it.
Flop. My issue is with the hybrid 3rd person shooter/rpg system. If I shoot something in the head I want it dead. I don't want to have to shoot it 50 times in the head.
I've played it

I am crossing my fingers that this game rises with potential with Richard Garriot as a veteran game designer (Ultima *, UO, Lineage *, CoH/CoV) and a decent franchise company to host it (NCSoft), but I'm hearing more negatives than positives about this. I have seen clips as old as 2004 so I assume this game has been in the works for years, probably almost a decade.
Then agan Wayne Gretzky had his "off" days too.
I don't see what the big deal of Hit or Miss really is? Will it be a hit, no, will it be a total flop? No. It's a middle of the road game with very few *innovative* ideas. It allows for some, not much immersion. It isn't as shallow as some say, and I still find it more fun then WoW. At least where I run and hide, actually determines the outcome of a battle. This game will be great if they get their heads out of combat only and move to other items like housing, mounts for early levels, and more variations of playability. (alittle more upgraded crafting would help.) I may or may not buy this game. It's entertaining, that much is for sure. Is it going to bring mass subs, no it won't.
So what defines a 'hit'? does a 'hit' mean Xmillion subs these days? if so then no nothing will be a hit, will it flop tho? no to that either...
it's 'different' which is what players actally need right now, because we've actally played the same game over and over game just under a different skin, yes a LOT of players like mashing their heads into instances over and over but thinking about it will they leave their current game to become a normal peon again? i don't think their egos will take it honistly, it'll tie players over until a 'bigger' title is out, holding a few hardcore ones, it's a niesh (sp) game if it can hold on to a few K of players it'll run fine..
I think players are setting the 'success' bar far too high, just because a few games have gone 'huge' doesn't mean they all have to imo
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
Do you know why there is so much people bitching about this game? Because the ones who truly like this game are PLAYING IT!!! Im sick of this! Of course the game is not perfect...Its not released yet! This game is diferent from rest of the MMO you were playing! You talk that you want something diferent from the other MMO, but then you star bitching about that it needs something like WOW or GUILD WARS! You dont want a new innovative MMO. You are stuck with the old ones and you people didnt realized yet! Give TR time to develop and you see a ggod MMO grow! I said in other Posts and Im saying again...EVE WOW was a nightmare when was released! can you imagine 5 servers down for one week? Well it happened! And now has 8 million suckers playing it!

He's going to be too busy to design games; he's got to go to Russia to train for his big ride. Takes eight months.
History: The game has truly been in dev almost eight years. When EA had enough of his problems with actually getting down to work in 2000, he went out the door and made announcements of his intention to make the Next Big Thing--then when his non-compete ran out, he made it official practically to the day.
NcSoft got all starry-eyed over RG and his business genius brother and started handing them wads of cash and...waiting. Then they had to throw out the early version of TR which was supposed to appeal to East and West and ended up appealing to nobody. More millions, more waiting. And here we are in quarter three of 07--
Until you spread your wings, you have no idea how far you can walk.
It's been a pretty mediocre, buggy experience so far. The game is optimized so very poorly.
Arn't there enough threads about this already why do you have to ask it again?
Not released yet? It's gone GOLD, which means thats that.. shipping grade material, maybe they will do some serious patching before the servers go live or maybe even make a game! There is "so much bitching" because after, what 5,6,7, a billion years this is all there is to show for it. I can only guess they wasted all their budget and time fopping around like goons and then one day NC said;
"Oi Garriott, where the fop is that ground breaking, genre busting, all new epic MMORPG you promised us?"
To which RG must have thought....Ehh-ohh time for telly tubbies, and spent a week in his bedroom coding this crap.
ok, ok a bit harsh perhaps?
I've played it
Me too.
I still think it has potential so will be holding off until it's first major update(and some in-depth reviews). But if I had to make a decision now......miss.
if it still exists in 6 months it might be worth a look, right now its not worth the asking price
Yep, I will definitely check on the game from time to time to see if it is worth the purchase price...let alone a montly subscription. Maybe if NCSoft does a Stationpass-like option, I would be tempted to pick it up.
Hit
Meh... maybe not a complete miss but not exactly a hit either. I don't know, for me, all the hype just turned into indifference.
