Thillian, one of the bigger problems I had with the game was after making a character and killing some of the newbie monsters around the starter zones there wasn't much more. I could pick a direction and walk for litterly 30+ minutes and never see another soul let alone a single creature living in the world or anything to interact with. I did this for a few of the starter areas and the only exception I found was, forgive the mispelling, quelia? I played on the florenia(again I forget the actual spelling) role play server as people suggested it was one of the more populated realms.
Out in the wilderness I found camps, caves/dungeons, docks on the water, small forts and such that were deserted. The world was gigantic and I really loved that and the long views, but it being so empty was really a game breaker for me. I didn't want to wander for hours and not find anything but pretty views or be forced to read websites to find where there was actually content. I liked that the games wasn't just swarmed with aggressive creatures, but this was to far on the other end of the spectrum for me.
Has that changed at all? Is the world more flushed out or still just a series of hotspots that people frequent?
No this is surely not the issue nowadays. I play on Halgar which is least populated out of those four and i have no problem meeting other players and finding a group to do anything.
The world is not that huge actually. It's a bit illusionary, the textures are very high res and detailed that it looks like they are very distant, but in reality they are pretty close. Qalia is perfect example for this.
Seradon server has three times higher population than Helgar so I guess meeting players there is even easier. This is not an issue anymore, it was before server merges.

This is partially still there. The game was made that way. It leads you first 15 levels (quest hug leads to another quest hub etc) but then it stops and you need to explore. This is for me a positive side that exploration is important part of the game. I can understand some may find it irritating.
There are tons of hidden camps with plenty of quests, great harvesting locations, or just nice views. Exploration is a huge plus of this game. If you don;t like to explore, but rather have it all at one place or have quests that leads you from one hub to another, VG is probably not good for you.
I played this game on the FFA pvp server, Tharridon i believe (its been a while), and the major reason I quit was because of the 2 major exploits in the game, one u could get unlimited money, and the other you could get exp from dieing. It was a fun game for a while, very fun actually, but the pvp was so far from balanced it was not even funny, and seeing as how I play games for pvp, I quit. I dont know if the game is any better as far as balancing, bugs etc. since its been about 6 months since I last played. Vanguard had a good idea for FFA pvp, it just wasnt developed for that from the beginning so it was a lackluster system (exploits, unbalances with the classes, etc.) I know classes have never been balanced, but when a max level pheonix shaman can 1-2 shot a ranger at max level with his pet there is something wrong with that picture, especially since a shaman has good heals same armor (medium).
Overall I would play this game again if they restarted a new server with fairly balanced classes, with FFA pvp, a decent population, but seeing as how the game is pretty much dead, the chances of this happening as zero, so I guess im just going to have to wait the 5 or so months for Age of Conan.
Dota wc3 mod is NOT a MMO game. If that's what you're playing now I cannot see how your opinion on current VG state is relevant.
? Do you even read seroiusly. I said i wrote the same Post already before about vanguard so how is your response intelligent? Get a clue before you open your mouth. VG is still just dissappointing!
Ok in the face of new facts let me change the statement.
If you think DOTA is a MMO game, your opinion on VG state is irrelevant.
Ok seeing as i was just playing Vanguard i think it does learn how to read seriously. You trying to defend somthing that is undefendable accept it or stop posting on VGs state of affairs if your not going to tell the truth. Yes i do have dota as the game im playing but thats it the game im playing because vanguard couldnt hold up to playable status after a week. What happen to AC2 will happen to this game. so again get a clue!
Oh wise sage of gaming, please predict the futures of all of the games on the upcoming release list! You seem to have foresight beyond that of the normal gamer so maybe you can tell us if WAR will be better than AOC? What I am trying to say is this: Who are you to say that your OPINION on the future of this game is any more right than the person you are quoting? You don't decide if games survive or fail, so please stop arguing about it already.
Oh, and BTW "What happen to AC2" is grammatically incorrect so please stop telling people to learn to read if you refuse to learn to spell.
Now, I'm no Vanboi, and I am also not a hater. I currently resubscribed to VG to see how it's coming along because I played it at release and liked it enough, but had to leave due to population issues. Since coming back I have enjoyed my time in game a fair amount, and can comment that the server mergers were a spectacular idea. I think the ground work is there for Vanguard, and with enough TLC and development time the game could shape up to be a contender. That said, I doubt it will ever be in the top tier of MMO's in terms of subscriber numbers because people are stubborn babies and once they get burned they usually won't come back. Gamers at large tend to have fragile ego's, and also tend to be extremely outspoken about their opinions when it comes to these things. This fact alone is the reason that the VG forums here have been so darned clogged with haters VS. fanboi posts for the passed 9 months. No one can seem to stand being in the middle of the road on this game.

I am not concerned about the amount of players. I've spent a good number of years playing on test servers for games that had populations less than Vanguard at its worst. That was never a concern for me as I think the smaller the population the tighter the community becomes. A lot more standoffish and hostile to critics/outsiders, but still a very social group of people to play with. Finding people was never a concern for me as low population server is a plus for me.
Also, exploring is a plus for me. I love to explore and romp around without quests guiding me to new areas. The problem you sort of gloss over is that I did explore and romp around and found vast expanses devoid of anything but views. My experience was that there were areas that looked like they intended to be populated or points of interest, but there was nothing put in place. It was my experience wandering around for hours and hours that there was much of the game that wasn't finished or populated with anything. I'm not looking for quest givers out in the middle of now where, I mean anything moving.
Qalia seemed to be the only real exception. Is that still pretty much the case, because I haven't seen much that suggests the world has been flushed out any.
Most of the players are 15-35, not because level 50 would quit, but because they started an alt and the leveling is much slower than in any other game. Even WoW when opened new servers took maybe 10 months to have majority of players at cap level.
It only takes 2-3 days played to get to level 35. There is almost no one in this game not at the level cap if they have actually played the game.
Leveling in Vanguard is not slower than other games. It is super fast. It takes 5-15 days played of entirely solo play to reach 50. Most people I know have multiple level 50's. Leveling here is quite similar to WoW. Just a tiny bit longer. There may be a great deal of people in the level 15-35 bracket but those people are the ones that quit. Anyone that actually plays the game has been 50 for 3-6 months now. What is different in Vanguard is there are many ways to get distracted from leveling. One can explore, craft, harvest, group, do dungoens and there are no road signs or directions which will all signifigantly slow down player progress.

You know nothing! I purchased VG at launch horrible horrible game then. Fixed up my PC re subbed to VG and was ok with what sony was doing so far with the game. I made my posts saying come back to VG its fun blah blah blah. If you knew how to read you would of read that line that i said I made this post already before. So that in its own should of let your small brain know that i was once a vanboi for a second trying to get people back to VG. But after a few weeks of game play i realized this game will never be BIG. It was still plagued by low population despite the fact that Sony is working to fix this abomination. So im sorry that your little brain cant grasp on the concept that I did play this game for a good while and so yes i will throw my two cents at these dumb posts because i made a post about it already. I am the forerunner that will let you know the future of this abismal game. VACANT. Vanguard sux it will always suck and will be shutdown still sucking. accept it and you shall be able to get on with your pathetic life.
I never once tried to discredit the fact that you used to play this game, nor did I say that you didn't know about the game itself. What I did say, however, is that you aren't psychic, and your opinion doesn't dictate the future. Just because you yourself do not like the game, and your personal view is that it will fail has no bearing on whether or not it will actually happen. Please stop being so angry about something that has little to no bearing on your REAL life outside of a few misspent dollars, and learn to move on. I mean honestly, to come here and repeatedly berate people who have done nothing to you other than enjoy something that you do not is pretty ridiculous.
By the way, slinging insults about other's lives, or intelligence is childish. You don't know me, you have no idea as to what my personal life is like, nor do you have any clue whatsoever about the size of my brain (which just so happens to be the exact same size as yours and every other human being's) so please try and hold a conversation without pretending that you do.
I can't say that I gave VSoH a fair shake the first time around, but I was pretty unhappy with the game. To me, I don't think you need a system hog of a game as long as the gameplay is solid and fun. They try to make up lack of gameplay with graphics and that just doesn't appeal to someone like me who is a vetern MMO player. We can get graphics anywhere anymore, they should of focused more on the game it's self IMO. Maybe I'll give it another go around though.
The truth is that many enjoy the game. The population is better, or seems so, with the mergers. The game is being improved but a lot of work remains to get done.
The above is the truth as I understand.
----- WoW and fast food = commercial successes. I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
I have an all access account so had vanguard for a while but haven't played much until recently, all i can say is wow the game is really fun, makes me feel like eq1 did back at 2001.
With a fairly powerfull computer i play in 1680 * 1050 resolution and the game looks stunning, so far i haven't had much trouble sure performance can drop at times but somewhat expected considering the graphics and resolution, still at this point in time i have a blast.
The truth about VG? Are you guys even subscribed? WOA!!! let me shed some light.
Currently I play on the PVP server. The average count at 2 am is around 200 and during the day it's about 300. That's kind of pathetic. If you like pve great but I like both equaly.
Second...the game is far far from complete in terms of technicality and even farther from compelte in terms of mechanics. Right now, not a single class is complete in terms of skills. There is something missing from every class. There are no helms in game, and the graphics engine is more than a year away from complete. For instance, fade in and fade out for objects isn't even in the game yet. Things pop in and out. That to me is the worst. It might be fine for you guys, but until that is fixed I contend taht any other mmorpg from the list has better graphics. It is just insane to be walking past a town to suddenly have it drop in from the sky out of no where. It ruins the immersion and roleplaying aspect for me where if I were playing a mud I would be more engrossed. Seriously that is partialy my opinion, the part about the fade in and out not being in yet is fact, but it's such a huge barrier for me that I won't let SOE know i'm currently playing VG for free because of a billing account bug.

The reason people are still playing VG is because quite frankly with its bugs, is still the best game on the market.
I am not the only one who also believes this.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
After all this controversy I'd be interested in seeing exactly what this game is like and seeing who on these forums is telling the truth and who is twisting it around.
Frankly, I'm suspicious of anyone proclaiming VG is a good game. They sound way too much like the people proclaiming the brilliance of Brad McQuaid before he was exposed to be a completely clueless developer who helped ruin an entire company.
Once SOE puts out a free trial then all of us will see what the game is really like.

"Keep my quotes out ya posts" .... and here I thought that ebonics was a long forgotten language. Who knew they let rappers post here?
BTW I love DOTA, and when I am not playing MMO's I fill the void with that as well. Blood seeker FTW
Truth be told the game has gained about 8000 players in the past 2 weeks and now the game only 19.99 at ebg ames special edition and the normal box sony knows they made an mistake and are patching content and bugs faster the any mmo I have ever played. Wow is a sorry excuse for an game and it's only has millions of subscribers because of diablo 2 and warcraft strategy game and have they ever posted how many accounts are actually active i think not, don't get me wrong if your new the the genre wow is a great games to learn how they work but by no means is it a game thats worth playing more then a year. Buy Vanguard if your looking for a an in-depth mmo with nice pve content if your looking for pvp go for dark age. Untill Warhammer comes out Vanguard is teh best mmo out for Pve.
Truth be told the game has gained about 8000 players in the past 2 weeks
Proof, please?
I would think if the game added 8,000 new players in two weeks, they'd open up another server. Or they'd be bragging about a massive influx of players. Or both.
well... ive read ALOT about Vanguard, SOE etc. I dont care about the past, who done what etc.
I decided to purchase the game some 1 week ago. And my feelings are contoversial about the game. Few things i think are worth to be mentioned about the game.
Crafting: very lovley, unique, fun and puts on you really pressure sometimes.
10/10
Performance: man i was so afraid of this. I dont have a crappy PC i think - i run most of games with 80 FPS+ (core2duo, 4GBRAM, 7800GTS). But Vanguard made me worry. I would enjoy the game much more if i woudlnt lag with every second move i made. I think its the game killer nr. 1 still in my opinion. Sometimes it runs really smooth but overall simply lags. Also i cant alt-tab for somereason without the game needs to be closed and restarted.
4/10
Graphics: Dunno what are the guys were so impressed about. Some locations are really very nice (i like the gnomes city inside the mountains) but overall nothing revolutionary really. Many of todays singleplayers games have much better graphics i think.
7/10
Classes / Characters: Very strong side of Vanguard. I like the character creation / options of classes and races. In my opinion this is what EQ 2 needs to become a perfect game in my eyes. I play Necromancer in VG and it would be really entertaining if theere wil lbe no lag in the game.
9/10
Diplomacy, quests etc.: Diplomacy is unique and i found it fun. Quests like many ppl said nothing diff. from WoW or EQ2 (and i sont think its a shame).
8/10
Bugs fixing: for me i oculd see bugs all over the place and its pretty annoying. Merchant standing in the air middle of his tent, need to dismiss my pet so often because he simple doesnt listen when i push his icons after zoning / teleporting / swimming and many other similar stuff makes you wonder.. HOW THE HELL THEY DIDNT FIX THIS BASIC STUFF ALREADY. I mean havent they noticed it? havent anyone reported it? I dont have any logic explanation to this other than they are simply not working enough on the game.
4/10
Overall if you ask wether i would spend 46 USD again in this game. I would tell you no sorry and on 80% im not going to prolong my account further. Not because its not good. But because other available options in the market areuch better at last. I would love to build my own house and craft my boat in an MMO.. but sorry i dont want to suffer in my play i want to enjoy it!
Once again the drama of Hero's continues... and I have to say the same thing again !
I'm sorry but I tried this game in beta and was not impressed. It was a week or so away from launch and it made a mockery of the word beta.
I'm sure SOE have improved the game somewhat but as admitted by disgruntled ex developers the game was all hashed togather i the last 12 months and recieved little or no testing. M$ was to do this put since they pulled out.. well this says it all.
VG isn't dead but its longetivity is in doubt. It seriously isn't going to deliver an ounce of the hype or even an ounce of cliche standard MMO "stuff".
I really don't see the need to even begin to pay this game attention until the free trial is out.

This is simply not true.
Fact1: you can change the object dropping in front of your eyes in settings. The distance, yes you cant expect to see all objects 500m away on integrated 6100 chipset. It's for those with slower machines.
Fact2: Every single class have 5-6 abilities each 2nd level. Each class around 60 unique abilities at max level. Thats far more than most of other mmo's. That's far from being incomplete. In addition those abilities are not some never-use ones, they give you plenty of options in combat.
Fact3: There are helms in game. There are just no graphics for them yet. You still can have a cloak with cape that covers your head.
Fact4: The number of special unique characters on each server is around 50.000. In reality only 40% is active - 20.000 (those stats are from www.vgplayers.com) and im sure people have also plenty of alts. If you check warcraftrealms.com (a website that has stats about your favourite game with the number of characters on each server) it's between 5.000-25.000. Note this data counts only characters logged in at least once in a month. Same data I used to calculate those 20.000 on seradon server. ( I counted them by sorting out all characters on a server that has last logged-date 9/15/2007) This is a proof that VG servers are no way empty.
Fact1: you can change the object dropping in front of your eyes in settings. The distance, yes you cant expect to see all objects 500m away on integrated 6100 chipset. It's for those with slower machines. Where ??????? There is no slider for rendering distance of objects. Only a slider to set the max. view distance.
Fact3: There are helms in game. There are just no graphics for them yet. You still can have a cloak with cape that covers your head.
/agree. NPC have helmets... and boots... and complete bracers... and gloves. Things all of my 3 alts lack. And cloaks are nice, but i cant switch them off. Ever seen a monk with superman cape ? Sure, i can put if off, but then i lack the stats. Classes are big fun. Still quite a few abilities and spells are broken. Lots of icons dont update proper. Triggered abilities dont work sometimes. Disc's endurance leech for example. I trigger it, the icon highlights and the little timer bar starts to shrink. Still it tells me: You cant use this now. Once the little green timerbar is close to zero i finally can use it. This is one of my best group and solo abilities... *sigh*
Fact4: The number of special unique characters on each server is around 50.000. In reality only 40% is active - 20.000 (those stats are from www.vgplayers.com) and im sure people have also plenty of alts. Originally posted by metalcore The reason people are still playing VG is because quite frankly with its bugs, is still the best game on the market. I am not the only one who also believes this.
All this means is that there are people out there who will play anything. If you take a few minutes and think of the 5 absolute worst games you've ever played ... I guarantee you that for each game, there are people out there who think it is great.
There is no accounting for taste, which is why as long as Vanguard is online, there will be some number of people playing it.
Unfortunately, if you look at the situation objectively, you will see there is no real future for this game. It will sit comfortably inside SOE's "back burner" stable, nestled right with Matrix Online and PlanetSide. It will get minimum developer attention just like these games, bug fixes here and there, every once in a while some token new content. But that's it, and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.
But hey, if you're enjoying playing, knock yourself out. Have a good time.

REALITY CHECK
There are tons of hidden camps with plenty of quests, great harvesting locations, or just nice views. Exploration is a huge plus of this game. If you don;t like to explore, but rather have it all at one place or have quests that leads you from one hub to another, VG is probably not good for you.
REALITY CHECK

Finding people was never a concern for me as low population server is a plus for me.Also, exploring is a plus for me.
Honest question.

-----
WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
Ok in the face of new facts let me change the statement.

The reason people are still playing VG is because quite frankly with its bugs, is still the best game on the market.
I am not the only one who also believes this.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
When the free trial going to be available?

Proof, please?
I would think if the game added 8,000 new players in two weeks, they'd open up another server. Or they'd be bragging about a massive influx of players. Or both.
I'd love to see real proof of those numbers.
There's a lot of truth to that.
well... ive read ALOT about Vanguard, SOE etc.
REALITY CHECK
To OP:
Smedley is that you? Your quote is really biased, I think so.
Have a good time.
lol seriously tho... "okey dokey there sport!"... i have to comment about this every time im on mmorpg.com until this thred dies :P
