Tech question (help)

My friend started playing tonight... but for some reason he can not use his mouse wheel  to scroll in and out.

Anyone know some possible fixes?

Due to Chilastra having just crashed I can't login to check, but I'm pretty sure there's no ingame option to change the mapping of the scroll wheen (zooming the camera in and out).  So, it's likely to be something software related outside of the game.

Check the software that comes with the mouse as sometimes these programs like to change the default actions for buttons.  For example, my Logitech software by default assigns the middle mouse button to Logitech's own "Universal Scroll" fuction instead of the standard "Middle mouse button".  It does the same thing in Windows as if it was assigned to the "Middle Mouse button" function but in games it can't be recognized due to the mouse software trying to make it do something different.

He does use a Logitech (as do I). So what did you do? Haven't I heard something from SOE about these brand of mouses sometimes having probs in SWG?

Also, how does my friend claim his AT-RT? /claim don't work.

Get him to open SetPoint and "Restore Defaults", might fix it.  Never had a problem with my scroll wheel not working in game though with a Logitech mouse.

Never had a problem with the Logitechs either.  Only bummer with them is SWG doesn't support the 9 button ones (found this out after I got one :( )  The AT-RT he should get a popup for to claim it...he may have clicked "remind me in a week" or something like that and forgot about it.

I use 6 out of 8 buttons on my G5 in SWG.  No, SWG doesn't have native support for the extra buttons but you can assign keystrokes to these buttons through the SetPoint software and assign the profile to the SWG .exe.  Within the game, you can then go to your keymap settings and assign those buttons (which will show as the keystrokes you assigned in SetPoint) to whatever function you like.  With this, I can quite easily do nearly everything from the mouse, I use the keyboard for chatting (which I can do in combat due to using non-modal chat) and firing specials.

Just a warning, SetPoint can be a frustrating experience to get setup right since it seems to have some annoying bugs (eg, forgetting keystrokes after you assign them to a button and needing to repeat the process a few times, or refusing to edit the profile for a program).  However, the end result is well worth the effort :)

I may try it again, I have the similar MX518 or something like that.  I fooled with it forever and finally gave up and went back to old faithful :P

    BLASPHEMY!

....kidding. I dealt with setpoint by not using it. Out of the box, plug it in, done. I never even touched setpoint. I don't install stuff unless my non-manual reading self can't get something to work.

You would need to kill me to separate me from that mouse. I haven't tried to use any of the buttons in swg since I already had everything hotkeyed on my G15 keyboard and I'm set in my ways, however, in Tabula Rasa, I was able to hotkey the buttons with no issues. I should try this in swg. I could picture using them for saberblock, heal, and stims.

In TR I used the left side front thumb button for reload. Down on the scroll wheel sets targeting to sniper mode (like telephoto on a camera, good for sniping 8) The mouse resolution buttons even work, so I can switch to high res in sniper mode for steady crosshairs. I have a few more buttons to play with and will probably use them all eventually...

Maybe you guys are overthinking SP. With Kb and mouse I took the approach of using them "out of the box" and molding the game to my controls rather than the other way around. I'm a lot happier that way. The whole profile thing that came with the keyboard is more or less useless with most modern games, which allow you to set any hotkey you like for your stuff. Yea, I'm pretty lazy. I end up hotkeying the same type of operations in all games to the same keys lol. Heal is always here, jump there, etc. I use one profile ROFL.

U[date the mouse drivers to the most recent ones. I had a similar problem when i upgraded to a newer mouse. Or if he has the current ones remove them and reinstall. Other than that make sure his scroll wheel works in other programs not just SWG..

I have a Logitech as well, it's a Keyboard/Mouse combination though. I had to enable a game recognition in the settings for the mouse. At first I was wondering why I couldn't use my side buttons, but it was due to the mouse software, not SWG.
