Witchhunter...why not something else.

So I wanted to play on the side of the Empire and pick the close range DPS profession, however, I was a little sad to hear that it was a "witchhunter".  Should I embrace this profession?  It just seems kind of lame to me to be called a witchhunter.  I understand that it will be the primary offense against casters, but can't they come up with a better character than a witchhunter since the game doens't really have witches; it has mages/sorcerors.

Does anyone agree with me on this issue, or do you think I should just embrace the new profession of witchhunter?

well i personally love everything about the witchhunters they're so pimp. guns+swords = pew pew fun.

and actually there is witchs in WAR. a sorceress or any other caster can be considered a witch. the definition of a witch is some 1 who admites to using magic.

witchhunter's job is to find and destroy chaos kinda like the inquisition form 40K, the dont jsut kill evil mages (called witches in the warhamme world), the hunt down and kill all worshipers of chaos, evil mages just happen to be a favorite.

also i wish you wouldent have doubted the awsomeness of the witchhunter now im going to have to torture you then burn you...

Witch hunter right now is the only reason im going to play WAR. I like to call them head hunters though. But really there the coolest looking character in the game i think. Guns, long hair, trench coats, daggers, cool hats of coolness, i think there great. Plus they must have one of the coolest back rounds.

In warhammer, anyone who uses magic, is considered a witch by the witch hunters. The Empire revolves around the whole Witch Hunter and Warrior Priest fanaticism. That's why I'm going to be a Dwarf, at least until they let you be Saurus Warriors. I collect the Lizardmen team, which is the best you can get. In my opinion, nothing comes close to a five by five block of Blessed Saurus Warriors of Quetzl, with spears, shields, full command, and being led by a Scar Veteran with the Sword of the Hornet, Enchanted Shield, and a blessed Spawning of Quetzl. Takes out anything, except a super defended, artillery heavy Dwarf army. But that's no fun.

Witchhunter is a pretty nice fit name? I mean what else would you call it? Heretic Hunter? well he hunts it but that's not all he hunts. Demon Hunter? Sorry just doesn't fit. When you think of the Witchhunter think of the old Salem Witch trials, the Empire Witchhunters make the Spanish Inquisition look like boyscouts. It's a man who has so much zeal against the forces of chaos and corruption that he is willing to burn down and hang entire villages to thwart out one minor chaos infestation(if it was even in that village or not). So what better name can you think of a man who does that? The Empire Witchhunters make the Spanish Inquisition look like boyscouts. I think you made have the interpretation of the real life Witchhunters. Witches in the Warhammer world aren't just people who practice a dark magic, it's mutants, undead, chaos followers, pretty much if the King outlaws it, it's branded as heretical. And for the Warhammer Witchhunter, they're the judge, the jury, and the executioner,  and since it's based of medieval times, it's guilty till proven innocent, and the choices of punishment is death, or torture till redemption, then death. So if you've read this think you can think of a better name than Witchhunter?

    Bollocks!

I'm guessing, OP, from your post that you are not real familiar with the Warhammer lore.  Witchhunters are pretty important in the Empire - think of them as the inquisition.  You do not want a witchhunter on your ass.

OP, you should take the a look at the pics and so on. I don't think you've seen them...

Damn that hat, I swear at least 65% of Order players are going to have a witch hunter as their first/second characters... I really like it, Van Helsing -ish type thing , but I don't want to be Van Helsing #394

And also Witch Hunter is a fine name, and I guess thats the name they had in warhammer lore..because they are hunters, of witches..and like someone said, they use extreme measures like in the Salem Witch Trials.

Though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays.

Well imagine the old WRPG. Long time ago i have played the Witchhunter, having to turn my intere group into the autorities , and get them tortured, and killed becused they messed with chaos! For while after they decided to ban withchunters in our playing groups!

Witchhunter is a MUST in the WARHAMMER LORE.

Your correct.  I haven't read much of the lore at this point.  From what you all have said, I'm starting to get more excited about the Witchhunters!  Sounds like they are indeed pretty damn cool.  It just didn't fit my orginal opinion of what the melee DPS class would be, but I suppose I'll have to read the lore in my free time to get to know more about the Whichhunter.

Witch Hunters are awesome, indeed. I do wonder about the population of the Empire careers. If it's going to be too many of those Witch Hunters, then I might roll another Empire career (which might be Bright Wizard), though it only depends on how the population will be. Heck, it's 6 months away. The population will be (or not be) different, compare to now and 6 months later.

A friendly reply, comment or opinion, if you wish.

I actually anticipate the Chaos-Chosen being the overpopulated career choice.  I had no idea the Witchhunters would be so popular, looks like I may be in the same boat.  I like to have a less populated class.  You can always go healer lol.

Lots of folks love the Chaos tanker Chosen, that's for sure. But when it comes to Empire, it's either Warrior Priest or Witch Hunter. I don't really know, overpopulation does make me want to play another career, but I can't simply avoid the Witch Hunters' lores and all the insane things about them (which I like alot). We shouldn't really worry about overpopulation, since it's 6 months away from release. :)

I bet I'm going to play a Witch Hunter now, since I've actually been looking forward to play one for very long. I say, let's play whatever career we want to.

Um. No. I don't agree because you are completely wrong.  Witch hunters are a central part of the Empire mood and feeling and have always existed in warhammer.

Firstly there are witches in that a witch would be a female agent of some chaos force.  Secondly witch hunter are and have always been bounty hunter  like characters that hunt down agents of chaos.

In fact not having witchhunters on the Empire side would be a major flub as it would fail to communicate the paranoia that grips the empire and other human countries.

Although Darth Vader is given the credit, many people feel it was, in fact, an anonymous Witch Hunter in ages past who first uttered:

"I find your lack of faith ... disturbing."

Then, naturally, he "interrogated" the heretic to death.  And burned the remains.

Because, Witch Hunters are really, really focused and intense that way.
