UO, EQ have unspoken bond.

I always thought that in the world of games, EQ and UO are very similar. They both were primary MMORPGs to come out with MASSIVE amounts of people. They both had great in game play and both have great friendships spawn within them. I always thought of UO and EQ as the greatest of friends. As corny as that sounds. It's funny, because in reality, I have a friend that plays EQ, as I play UO. Well, played. We both no longer play.

Go EQ and UO!

The only thing simular is both are Fantasy-Themed aka Tolkien Themd/D&D Themed MMORPGs. UO is a 100% Skill Based game. EQ is a 100% Level Based game. Very different character building is involved.

They both were primary MMORPGs to come out with MASSIVE amounts of people.

Not true. UO came out far before EQ. UO led to EQ being made. Also 2 other MMORPGs came out way before EQ - The Realm Online, and Maridian 59.

It is because of UO's success that EQ ever got created and made. Read up on the story of Smeadly and how SONY shot him down again and again, until SONY saw how well UO was doing and Smeadly used UO to get SONY to give the go ahead for EQ to be made.

They both had great in game play and both have great friendships spawn within them.

The majority of players who are fans of UO dislike EQ. The majority of players who are fans of EQ dislike UO. Because the gameplay of both games are soooo dis-simular.

I always thought of UO and EQ as the greatest of friends. As corny as that sounds. It's funny, because in reality, I have a friend that plays EQ, as I play UO. Well, played. We both no longer play.

BTW, EQ is leaning towards being more like UO. Being more of a Skill Based game (by adding AA points.). EQ2 is leaning even more towards being like UO. Though it will still be a Level Based game. Throughout the MMORPG industry, very few Skill Based games have been made - UO, AC, AO, and SWG are the only ones. Also, Skill Based games have always done better than Level Based games heheheh. UO is far older than EQ, and far more outdated, yet UO has almost as many players as EQ!

(AC was never aggresivly advertised. AO suffered from one of the worse game launches in MMORPG history - though it still revolutionized the entire industry the same way UO dis when it first released.) SWG is doing well, though it could be doing far, far better if it would stop shooting itself in the foot.

I wouldn't say there very much alike, at least in mechanics. EQ is level based and item based. UO was skill based and skill based. UO is more item based now but it's mostly based on random items instead of camping one thing for a specific item. EQs skills are really just levels inside a skill tree but that's as close as they get.

UO being about pK and EQ being about raiding doesn't help this argument.
