I was wondering I have 256 ram and I want to upgrade to 512 or a gig of ram anybody know where I can find a website for it and if not a website about how much it would cost to upgrade it. And when you upgrade ram do you take out your old ram (my 256) and put in a new one (the 512 or gig) or can you if you have the right computer have more than one ram slot and combine like 2 256 rams and equal a 512 or something like that at all. lol sorry if you don't get what I'm saying there I'm not best with all the techinal stuff about computers still learning ...I have 1.8GHz or something like that and I was wondering would this really affect playing WoW when it comes out? any information you have would be appericated thanks .
edit: I found out i have 2 slots for memory what exactly does that mean (sorry im really not good at this I know I'm biggest newb ever thanks again for help)

Sorry for more questions but....
If I wanted could I upgrade the Ghz?
and whats a good adware remover i have alot and its really annoying now (Norton does nothing)
and does anyone know the answers to my questions in my orginal post... thanks for sites now I just need to know the answers so I can decide what to do thanks again.
Take your computer to a local pc store. Tell them what you want and have them do it. You sound like you have zero knowledge of pc's, so I highly recommend you dont try any upgrades yourself. And why is this on the WoW forums?

Cause I'm too damn lazy too look for new forums and I suck with hardware on computers I'm actually pretty good on software part of it just if you ask me is your ram triple slotted I'd be like wth. But if you ask me a problem on your software I might know since my brother taught me alot about computers.... Any webstie where I can learn more about the hardware? oo And thanks for the suggestion I'll go tommorow .
When you upgrade your memory it kind of depends upon what type of memory you have. If you have SDRAM which is old and you probably don't if you just bought your computer, but is still a possibility even if you have, you don't have to worry too much about matching sticks. Your main concern if you have SDRAM would be wether or not your mobo can handle an increase in the size of memory and since you will be upgradeing to only 512, I wouldn't really worry about it. If you want to find out what type of memory you have usually there is a sticker on the side of your memory stick that has a brief cryptic description such as "256 DDR400". Now if you have DDR memory and you are going to add another stick of memory you main concern is to match the stick of memory you already have or to buy a set of sticks that run at the same frequency(Mhz) as each other. I have DDR400 also called PC3200, these two terms are usually mixed alot when you look up memory for systems nowadays but what the DDR400 means is that it is running relatively at a 400Mhz and the PC3200 means that it can handle a bandwidth of 3.2 Gb/s(gigabytes per second). One thing with the new memory out right now that is running faster that DDR400/PC3200 is that no mobo out right now, well at least that I know of, is rated to handle faster sticks such as DDR433 and up, so there really is no nead to spend horendous amounts of money for bandwidth that you wont really utilize. So, if you have DDR you need to find out what type it is and try to find another stick that runs at the same frequency as it so that you can run it at dual channel which thus essentially doubles your memory bandwidth, esentially the two sticks work together in carrying the load.
I'm guessing that you have a 184pin memory module so here is a basic walkthrough of how to install the memory once you get it: The Link!
Your system memory can really affect at what level the game can be run at. Memory is like a superfast hard drive that stores info that the game/program utilizes alot so as to reduce the amount of time the game/program has to spend localizeing the drivers/info to process commands within the game. So, if your game has alot of variables it has to compute and eats up all the memory space it will be forced into leaveing stuff that it would normally store on the memory, on the hard drive which takes a little longer to search for and send. So I think yes, if you had more memory when WoW comes out it will make a difference considering the level at which it runs, But the game usually automaticaly adjusts to your systems specs.
Also here is a Link to help you along in finding out the how to's in hardware. Not the greatest walkthrough, but at least a start for you.
As well here is a Link on how to remove some Adaware and it has a link to some Adware remove programs, but I would highly suggest that you look around. Some Adware removal programs arn't all they are cracked up to be, and sometimes on purpose.

here is a good site that will give you the latest news and performance on hardware. it also have some good how tos on building your first computer and i am sure there is many articles about memory. i think you should ignore the one guy and try it yourself. there is no way to learn if you dont try it and everyone has to start somewhere. good luck

"The long answer; it is better to have 'matched' ram. Meaning, if you can, you want to match to the same size and speed as your current ram.
Ex: You currently have a single stick of 256 Meg 'PC2100' (runs at 133 MHz). You would want to purchase more of that size and type.
You are only as fast as your slowest part, so it makes little sense adding ram that is faster than your current ram."
Now does that mean if i add a stick of 512 to a stick of 256 my computer will still be like a 256 this guy confused me help please thanks .
anyone know.....?
you should know what kind of ram you have right now (check it inside)

FFS MAN!!!
Just go to a damn PC Store or a Tech site forum!!
1) Check what kind of ram your pc support (DDR, SDR or RDR)
2) Check your motherboard(mainboard) bus speed (it would be in Mhz)
3) select ram that matches your specifications from newegg.com or crucial.com
Also, I would recomend that you buy ram same manufacture as your current ram

lucky!!! I only am able to do this cause of extra b-day money...
Well I would guess that 1.8 would get you throught the day. I'm not saying your gonna have no problems at all, but you should make it. Dont quote me on that, I have an ultra gaming system{alienware}. Give you the spec's here- its the AMD Athalon 64

I'd recommend you don't buy from alienware if you don't wanna spend a bunch of extra money that you could save just by buying it all yourself and building it. I bought everything i needed from newegg.com and it came to me within about 2 days of ordering it... but then again their headquarters are in california and i live in arizona... that might have some influence...
The best spyware removal software is Ad-aware. Download it from download.com and make sure you update it through the program iteself.
About that RAM question... adding a 512 chip won't make it act like a 256 chip. What he was talking about was the ram speed. They all run on different frequencies, and as of right now i believe the fastest Athlon based ram is PC 3200.
Don't worry too much about the assembly or anything. You'd be surprised how simple it is in the fact that everything plugs into it's own little slot.
If you need to ask any questions or anything, go ahead and PM me and I'll see if I can answer them when I find your message.
