WTF are you people crying about? You're calling a BUSINESS greedy.. do you even understand what a BUSINESS is? They are here to MAKE MONEY. DUH! A lot of you act like little kids without a freaken clue. You all want hand outs and freebies. Do you have ANY idea how much it costs to maintain a decent MMO with good servers? A LOT! Guildwars can maintain a nearly free business model because the company has other games to support it. As you can see them offering tons of expansions and little things you can spend money on to unlock skills automaticly for you proves it isn't doing so good. They need money. So that's how they're doing it. Fury is doing what they can to gain profit while also keeping everyone happy. Should someone that folks over the cash get more benefits then a freeloader? HELL FREAKEN YEAH. Otherwise why would ANYONE pay? It'd be pointless.. what so they could donate? Are you kidding me.. If you are to cheap and can't afford 10 freaken dollars a month then quit MMOs and get a second job you loser or get a job period. Hell the lowest of the low jobs can afford this freaken game if you're still living at home. So I ask you.. wth is your problem? It's that you want to bitch all damn day just like 90% of these stupid forums. I don't even play the game, but my god.. you whiney brats need to learn to stfu and accept life for what it is. LIFE DOESN'T = FREE. Is it unfair that they get better benefits then you freeloaders? Nope. Perfectly fair. It's an investment. They are taking the risk to invest into the company and its product. Thus they have privilages above a freeloader. It's simple really. Ok i'm done.. go cry some more..
I don't think anyone's "crying" here. We're simply pointing out that this game is more or less a scam trying to get everyones buck, yes they're greedy. If you can't see that there is simply no need for a $10 monthly fee, then I don't know what to tell you. You're obviously blind. The only way I can see a company justifying a monthly fee is if it requires additional resources from their end. MMO's like WoW require monthly fee's due to their bandwidth costs. The game requires hardly any bandwidth from the developers end. The PvP battles are all instanced, thus, peer-to-peer, hence it uses YOUR bandwidth. Why would I pay for my bandwidth twice? I'm already doing that when I pay my monthly cost to AT&T.
The dev team at Guild Wars developed this business model and it's worked out flawlessly for them. There is simply no need for a montly fee because everything that requires any kind of bandwidth is instanced. Sure you have to buy expansions for GW, but I'm 100% sure Fury is going to do the same thing... Where does this company get off in trying to butcher that system by including a pointless $10/mo fee? Sure you can play the neutered version of the game for free, but there really is no point. You don't get in-game support, and you don't have any rankings in a player vs. player game. They are forcing folks (without having to come out and say it) that if they want the real game, you have to pay a fee per month.
Sure businesses have to make money, but not by being greedy.
I hope people don't pay this fee so these guys can learn a lesson in business. Sadly, however, there are suckers like you who probably will. Thus enabling companies to think they can screw over future consumers.
See, that's where opinions make a difference. Where you feel this is a scam and a rip off, I and others who enjoy the game feel its certainly worth it to pay the subscription fee. Not only to get the benefits of subscribing, but also to support the devs. You may not feel that buying a full price game then paying per month is worth it or supporting the devs, but I do.
These guys put alot of hard work into the game, and if a measly $10 a month helps them keep things running smoothly, so be it.
$10 a month isn't exactly alot of money, just don't go to McDonald's tonight and you have the monthly fee (for 2 months maybe). I don't see why people have to complain about a monthly fee. If it was $25 a month or something, sure that's a bit much. But $10 a month? Come on.
Plus, you CAN play for free, and not be totally gimped. So I don't see why anyone would complain when some people support the devs by subscribing. You don't have to, and that's fine.

Well then how can you possibly think mandatory $10 for the full game is acceptable? You're not paying for anything other than just giving them additional money to put in their pocket. You already paid them for the product (the initial $49.95). If you want to donate money to the developers that's fine, I have no problem with that. But forcing us to "donate" monthly in order to get the full game is completely idiotic.
Because I don't feel that the fee is unreasonable at all. As I said, if it were $25 or something like that then sure, that would be a bit to high. But at the current fee price, I don't mind it at all. If the fee gets me certain "perks" for paying said fee, so be it. If the fee just helped out with the developers so they can provide better/more stable servers, or whatever it is, so be it also.
The problem here is, you believe that the game isn't "complete" unless you pay monthly, which isn't the case. Sure paying the monthly fee gets you certain nice bonuses, but the game is certainly playable for free.
I was playing with several people earlier who said they wouldn't subscribe when the free 30 days of Immortal status was up, and they had no problem at all with that. They know they won't have "priority log in queue" and the ability to sell on the auction house etc. Those aren't big things, especially if all you are going to do is log in, PvP and then get new skills/items, then log out.

Well I guess you're the type of customer greedy companies like this like. You bend over nice and peacefully for them. Things such as selling in the an auction house, log-in priority, and ranking (above all things) are all required in order to enjoy a PvP game. This is simple fact. There is no reason for them to charge the customer anything for these "perks" as you like to call it. They are all things that pretty much any other company has included in their games with no additional fee, again, see Guild Wars. Why these guys think they can get away with charging for it is beyond me. It's idiotic.
You don't need priority and you don't need an auction house. Some games STILL don't have those features and people enjoy them just fine WITH A MONTHLY FEE.
I have to say it. You're WRONG! Those features are there for your convinence. They ARE NOT a neccessity. If they are for you.. you suck.. nuff said. Learn to play games a bit better without being so dependent on perks.
If you don't want to pay for the time put into those "perks" then you certainly don't deserve them.
The game also isn't P2P.. wth gave you that idea that instances are p2p rofl. The instance is hosted on the server created as a temp. Removed when inactive for a period of time. (this is how it is done in my game under development). Not sure what idiot company would rely on p2p for an MMO anyway.. that's absurdly stupid. To easy to inject hacked code.. hex edit anyone? anyone? exactly.. it's NOT p2p.
Yes you guys are infact "crying" over a couple of bucks.
In my opinion the people that whine are the people who want the features, but arn't willing to pay for the time and money invested into creating those features (not as easy as you think it is.. learn to game design and you'll stfu then).
So in that case.. quit playing MMOs you cheap bastard. If you can't afford 10-15 bucks a month you've got financial problems outside of the game.. stop putting the blame on them, because mommy and daddy won't pay the fee. GET A FKING JOB! MOW SOME LAWNS!.. buncha brat kids I sware it..
[ Played ] 2Moons, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest, Everquest II, Guild Wars, HellGate: London, Lord of the Rings Online, Rappelz, RF Online, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, World of Warcraft, Last Chaos
Heh, thanks for that post. That's pretty much how I feel, but I didn't want to come across to aggressive or snobby with it. So, you pretty much said it perfectly, more or less
At 31 (almost 32, so old) years old, if I can't pay a few bucks extra to enjoy a game and support the devs, what's the point then really?

It has absolutely nothing to do with being able, or not being able, to afford the monthly fee. You idiots are confusing the whole point. I play tons and tons of MMO's, I have plenty of money to devote to my gaming habbit. The reason I have so much money to devote to it is I don't waste it on gimmicky crap like this this game.
I'm tired of discussing it. If you suckers want to buy into this crap then be my guest. It's like trying to explain to a religious person there are no such things as invisible omniscient being(s). Continue living in your ignorance.

So by looking over your posts and this last paragraph specifically... you state that their, and other peoples opinions/beliefs are wrong yet yours are right?
If you personally don't like the game or feel it is worth what someone is asking then do your part and don't contribute to it. To make it a personal issue as to how others feel about a game makes you appear to have real serious personal issues.

No, I'm saying they're simply trying to justify spending their $10 a month. I point out that, hey, it's not worth it because what this company offers for your money is something the gaming industry has standardized in the majority of games as of recently, and should included in the initial cost of the game.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them to drink.
If you feel the developers deserve extra money, that's fine, they can have a donation option. But don't neuter the game and require paying a monthly fee for "perks" that aren't even really perks, and are included in almost any other multiplayer game on the market for the initial cost of the game.
Now, this is just my opinion here: What they should have done, if they feel the cost in bandwidth is to much for simple retail sales to handle (again this is arguable, but bare with me), they should've made the game pure pay-to-play. Have a lower $4.99 monthly fee or something for everyone. None of this, free or non-free crap. Because as it stands, free is pointless to me, as a PvP player. But again, why would I pay $10/mo just to be ranked? No thanks.
OR just make the game free for everyone, like Guild Wars (since it's model is essentially the same, and that's the games' only real competition at this point). They could include a donation link and encourage donations to keep things moving. I have absolutely no problem donating to games if they deserve it. They end up deserving it when I've played for a month or two and look back and think "Hell, this is an awesome game, I should give these guys some extra bucks for keeping this up."

Matter of opinion. Just because a company chooses to run a game a certain way doesn't mean it dictates the whole market. This is the developer/publishers call not ours. Don't like it: then don't buy it at all.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them to drink.
Why is it you feel it is your obligation to force your beliefs/opinions on others while at the same time belittling what they believe.

From what has been published the perks are just that: perks. Let's not try to make all games try to conform to the same mold as it begs to reason why we have any new games/takes on the genre.

Awesome. Opinions are cool. Why not just leave it at that and save all the time trying to push others with what you think? People don't have to drink your Koolaid for you to enjoy it.

ArenaNet is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NCsoft*. The engine and tools they develop are licensed by other companies under NCsoft. That is truly what make part of GuildWars Free. Most other developers don"t have that luxury of income.

Not really, But I hope you liked this horrible text color I chose (just my opinion on the color, nothing against those who prefer it)

Look we can go back and forth all night. You say my opinions aren't valid I say yours aren't, blah blah, whatever. Your link also supports a lot of what i was saying earlier of the bandwidth costs (or lack thereof) of running a game solely based around instances. It doesn't cost hardly anything. We'll just agree to disagree on the $10/mo charge, and let the thread die.

Actually, nowhere did I say that your opinions/ beliefs weren't valid. Try reading everything I wrote. Also as of note on the link was the licensing fees they would gain.. that pays for a large part of it. Just having bandwidth being cheap doesn't mean it should cost nothing to run a game and develop more content for it with a live team. 50 dollars or less after a game matures doesn't all go to the developer, nor does it go a long way.
im not gonna support games where you have to buy in-game stuff. Either all players who subscribe are equal users or for me its not a game worth spending my money on.
I once played a browser game where when you bought ingame items you had a significant advantage over others. but i find that stupid
I can't see any problem with this type of business model.
GW has made its money with expansions (every 5-6 months) $50 per game.
WoW, LOTRO and other MMOs require an $15 monthly fee to play.
Fury publishers have chosen this kind of business model, where it is free to play (in terms of gear and skill availability everything is the same) and if you want to save some time (hate grinding) you subscribe. There is no actual meaning to subscribing in the battle.
SOE and many other MMO developers have already declared that they are going with this type of business model too in the near future.
If you don't like it, you don't buy it. Pretty simple.

That's going to completely F up the economy with only premium players being able to sell as the paying members will have a monopoly over all prices. Also, the supply will be lower since only some can sell, therefore the prices will be gouged.
I hate games that are free, but gimp you if you don't pay. I don't mind paying for a game as long as the developers are honest and don't try to mislead the customer with tacking "free" everywhere because in the end, to be a hardcore top player in this game you will need to subscribe.
An optional £5 a month to play a game that I enjoy... £1.25 a week... Thats so within pocket money pricing it's laughable.
What the hell are you moaners so bothered about? Are you really so broke you can't afford to pay this to do something you enjoy?
Auran have been upfront about this, they are not sneaking it in or lying about their pricing... Really, whats the problem? Play or don't play based on the price plan presented to you. Thats your choice. Why act so offended that they dare to invent their own price model and have the gall to actually charge for their product? To cry up these boards whinging that life isnt free and that someone out there owes you a free game is the behaviour I would expect from a child.
If the p*ss poor standard of MMOs right now isnt enough to make me quit this hobby, the 'community' will, I swear.
This thread is golden to say the least. Funniest read I have had in a long time. I don't know what was more hillarious... the people complaining or the developers defending.
At any rate, I don't support MMORPGs where the manufacturer sells in-game currency to players for real-world money. I am not saying it is bad, but rether I am just saying that I don't support that model. As such, I didn't buy the game.
No harm.. No foul. I just chose not to buy the game. I wish the company the best of luck though.

First of all i wanna say i havent played or even baught this game yet. But i have keept an close eye on its development since i love the pvp without leveling aspect of the game.
but i got to agree with the OP, he makes a valid point. Why would anyone play a pvp game without beeing able to get into the ladder rankings? So to state its f2p is at best missleading. I have no problem with the actual cost 10$, its next to nothing. Its the principle of making a false advertiment stating you can pvp and compete without a monthly fee in this game(who the hell competes without beeing able to be in the ladder ranking system?).
So i will have to consider if im actually gona invest money into this game. I was 100% sure before i read the OPs post, now im not totally convince anymore. But if the game gets some good revives im sure i cant keep away from it .
Made an edit cause of bad chosie of words. Im was not actually meaning the rank ingame. I meant the rankings in the weekly ladders.

You obviously didn't even read my post. Good job.
I did read your post, thanks.

Anyways, I hope this clarifies some things.

Matter of opinion. Just because a company chooses to run a game a certain way doesn't mean it dictates the whole market. This is the developer/publishers call not ours. Don't like it: then don't buy it at all.

Anyways, I hope this clarifies some things.

Did you pay for those in-game items? Just curious cause I love cheese...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Ted Treffon: No, I don't represent that either.
Osbourne Cox: You are part of a league of morons. Oh, yes. You see you're one of the morons I've been fighting my whole life. But guess what. Today, I win.
after they say players playing for free would be able to compete the same as paying players in all aspects. They forgot to tell you about the UAA.
hmmm, 7 more bucks per archetype to unlock your end game abilities. interesting...
Pretty simple really. If you don't like it don't buy it.
I will not be playing Fury but fully understand their business model and reasoning. They want to make money for their BUSINESS... OMG what a concept.
This is not GW with the monetary backing of a huge company.
And hate to break it to most of you but this is the way most p2p games will be going in the future.
I seriously don't get whats the problem is.
The game to be fully "enjoyed" you have to pay a subscription (like all P2P games out there)
However it also offers an option of not paying and getting less features.
I'd love to be able to play WoW for free but not being able to raid or wtvr :P
FFS people...
We are talking about $10/ month here right?
Thats around £5/ month in my money a month...
