Aion have Duel Mode PVP?

NewMonsterNewMonster Member Posts: 417

does it have duel mode pvp where we request people to duel and only if they click accept the battle will begin and no one can interfere?

I jus cant stand mmos that only has royal rumble pvp where anyone can jump in randomly.... it just not fun... pk someone and feel no joy... no fun... no proud... cause it is not fair and square match....

example... silkroad is good and all but the pvp is only royal rumble anyone can jump in randomly.... and 1 hit dead! not fun at all! win and no feel proud... no joy.. no fun etc... how can people find it fun?

I like mmos that has a duel mode... fair and squar eno one can jump in....

does Aion have duel mode?

also I am anti social in-game in eveyr mmo..... I dont want to be like asking people everytime i want to duel on on one... i jus want to say nothing and request a duel and they click accept....

will Aion have duel mode pvp? like twelve sky? like wow? like mo siang?

A RvR game with duels? ^^  I doubt it.

But It will probably have some sort of duel mode so you can pvp within your own fraction.

Aion will have duels of some sort for intra-faction PvP (inter-faction PvP takes place in the Abyss and is often referred to as RvR and PvPvE due to the Balaur NPC race). These duels will probably take place in a type of arena or coliseum. Habeeb it. It was in an interview. Said interview can probably be found on the now-dead(ish) AionFuse.com.

DAoC has duels. That, or some of its players are the most honorable in the world. I've watched my DAoC-addicted buddy play his game longer than I've played some of my own games. DAoC seems to have a generally adult, nice, older community. At least it feels that way. I know there's kids playing because, well, TeamSpeak does wonders and my buddy was a teen, maybe younger, when he started playing.

How lame to have duels in a RvR game. RvR is about war imo and if you are in war with someone it's not like you go out and ask some enemy "-Hey mate, wanna fight a bit?" You should get your ass out there and go beserk and fight every enemy you see until one of you stand victorius.

How, then, do you suggest we settle arguments? Prove who's the better Warrior? Compete in contests of skill? To be honest, no real downside to voluntary duels exists.

  • SwanSongSwanSong Member UncommonPosts: 24

Precisely. Plus, these duels are mainly for, as Mark put it, intra-faction PvP. There's no harm in having both types of PvP.

  • sketchy_sketchy_ Member UncommonPosts: 137

Who cares about who is the best player or most "skilled" player... you don't win wars by having one or two good players. RvR games are about war between two or more factions. It's about beating the shit out all your enemies in this case either Elyos or the Asmodians (+ the Balaurs) not about proving who is the best player. Think anyone would care if you say you are the best player in the game when your faction is getting their asses kicked all the time? And how you settle arguments? You gather as many mates as you can and go out and wipe out your enemies .

I don't have any problem with some sort of duel thingy going on within your own race so you can pvp some with your friends for fun. But to do "duels" with your enemies in a war is just wrong imo.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Heck, if I encountered an enemy race in the Abyss, of course it'd be in my instinct to go kill him/her.

  • StevaneStevane Member UncommonPosts: 35

umm, why is that wrong? Duels are just another added bonus to the game. And wth does it matter if its between your own race or against your enemy? Other people might have their own playing style.  idk i just think your argument is kinda sketchy........

  • CyntheCynthe Member UncommonPosts: 1,414

There's going to be arenas, so logically you'd think there would be dueling in them.. Outside I imagine you could duel with the opposite race, in fact if you show up as an Elyos in an Asmodian city the guards attack you ^_^

Not sure if you can win favor , rep points so this doesn't happen.. But then if you can you wouldn't be able to attack the other race anymore as there's no PvP between same race... So probably won't happen.

It's wrong because they are your enemies. You're not supposed to chat and have fun with your enemies or do contests or some other crap with them. You are in war with them, you should kill them on sight.

I agree... why would you challenge every single opponent to a duel? Thats just silly. I can see it happen within the faction (even if i prefer ffa pvp), but having it against your blood sworn enemies... *shakes head*

furthermore... duelling is a little bit like instancing, it shuts you off from the rest of the world. Ive never been a fan of that :(

Remember this game is geared towards the more casual player and therefore does away with prossibility of griefing ect.. But that said there's still a lot we don't know, we can't really jump at conclusions quite yet.

Well if Aion turns out to be some carebear mmo I'm gonna be so pissed of and go back to play fps games again.

......... Lineage 2 is a seige base pvp.... clan vs clan.... and still recently have added duel mode pvp. Mo Siang is a faction VS faction and still have added duel mod epvp for those to test out their strenght faire and square. Twelve Sky is a faction VS faction... Race VS Race.... and still have duel mode pvp where anyone and anyone race can test out their strenght in a fair and square. Lor dof the Rings Online although not specialize for a pvp game... it still have duel mode pvp for players to duel for fun. World of Warcraft is a faction VS faction and still have added duel mode pvp for people to have fun together.

A Faction VS Faction game having added duel mode pvp does not make it lame...... it is just an added feature. fxjds

i dont think duel mode pvp is called carebear.... the real carebear is royal rumble pvp..... people afraid to fight 1 on 1..... they wait for people to fight and jump in.... a real carebear.

    grammar problem.......

  • BornathBornath Member Posts: 31

I believe there is a duel mode that you can enable within your own faction. Check out this video and skip to 2:35.

Depends on what kind of game it is.. and just for a lil history.. you didnt just go shooting or stabbing anyone all the time, you were usually kalled a backstabber if you did... disagreements would be settled in a duel. Thus the famous term "High Noon" and the ever famous European 'Choose ur weapon at 10 paces'. It was looked at bing a little more honorable. But if I had to guess... I'd say it'll probably have a PvP-On/Off button or Restrictions.. I just dont assume it'll have a lawless society.

Pure pvp games tend to not add as much content. It's gone be a balance issue.. i know that much. the wrong pvp type kan kill a game.. we all know that and the wrong type of pvp-setup kan make the game "dull" overtime as less of a player interaction.

Kourse, just a grind and pvp game would be another korean game and not worth a monthy fee... so the xtra content would have to add up too.

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi

    Games I'm Playing: Warframe/STO

Games I'm Pondering: The Secret World

wow! I think you're right! look carefully..... watch when the other guy finish him off...... the other guy hp went down that you cant see the red bar.....  right after that it shows a korean word at the middle of the screen and I bet it says who win who lose!

Those vids are probably showing Elyos vs Elyos because of the fact that the Asmodians are not playable in the beta yet... It still remains to be seen how dueling will work and where you can duel your onw race, IF you can.

I never got why people want to turn ever Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game into a FPS-gank grind to 1XX to pk lv10 fight outside the town kills each other game.

Dont people play Quake or UT anymore? kan fight all u want and not worry about leveling.. i think QW:ET even has leveling if thats just what you like to be involved also

That said.. there are alot of pure pvp mmo's out there. not ever Role Playing Game needs to be built to be a deathmatch as more RPG games arent... a kouple are, but you kan pretty much tell by the name. Tends to have 'War' in it lol. I always just thought it was interesting...

that also said.. a few MMORPG are kumming out with maps that are actually deathmatch maps like Quake so that should be fun for those who wish to fight..

funny thing about pvp... i never seen anyone actually pvp on a daily bases, less it kame to dueling which is agreed upon rather a system is installed or not so i dont see the big deal there, other then that most just pk low levels like and like i said b4, a handfull chill outside of the town zone killing each other on repeat. thats fun to test gear and train.

If I were you I'd be more interested in guild or clan wars and well played out seige type contents to keep the game going.. not if i kan kill a lowbie outside of the town zone

Well Vaden if you're such a big fan of dueling then why are you interested in a RvR game?

Ok I'm not judging all players now, but some . Sometimes when I read on forums what kind of playerbase this game will get and what they hope this game to be like: Casual player game, no grinding, duel pvp, fluffy bunnies jumping around... then uhm this game would be better off with 50 years of brainkilling grind and permadeath in pvp.

Me? im not a big fan of dueling... big fan of exploring, figuring out game mechanics at times, crafting... I do play full PvP games but mostly games like Quake, UT etc... I hardly do it in a MMORPG game, its usually not fully balanced good enuff to do all that. Odds are in MMORPG games, the mage type will win hands down or if a klass is overpowered u tend to see a nerf.. thats why i dont get TO much into the Player vs Player aspect of a game like this... but fighting as a group might be a lil bit more up and down.. u might win this time while another guild or clan might win the other time.

If you just want to gank people.. there are games out there for people like that too.. I hear Shadowbane is pretty bad with the ganking of new players if thats what gets ur socks off. Most player vs player fights dont last longer then 2 seconds so its mostly who hits 1st unless he or she has hp pots, then they just sit there and auto-heal till sumbody dies. lol

Who said I enjoy ganking? But when i play a RvR mmo I will kill or try to kill anyone from the opposite faction doesn't matter if he/she is level 1 or 200, in a group or solo.

Well dude that's what the game is promising, no one is imagining things... I don't kow about bunnies but I bet there's plenty of cute critters jumping around yes ^^  I don't see what the problem is with any of the things you mention here.

That's not to say that hardcore players won't find something for their style either...

Well you can't blame him for putting down those morons who are against pointless grinding. Grinding for countless hours means more play time for the cost of the game, even if it is mindnumbing and boring. Hell, who needs content driven gameplay anyway, no content grinding is hardcore...

Honestly how does wanting a game that is based on content and some form of story rather then killing monsters for no reason except to see numbers grow equate to fluffy bunnies?

Anyway, Sketchy, you seem to be in the wrong game forum but I may have a game that fits your description. I played this mmo 2-3 years ago for about 30 minutes called Khan, you choose your class and then go straight to fighting mobs. No reason is given for why you are fighting, no opening movie explaining who you are or npc to tell you any form of story in regards to your character or the world you play in. It is a perfect grinding game where that grind is all you have to worry about. No duels or quests as far as I saw and absolutely no fluffy bunnies. They even have a ranking system that shows what rank you are for experience so you have the opportunity to be the Best Grinder© in the game provided your hardcore enough. You have no time to waste if you want to be the best though, they have a couple years on of you already!
