So i got an invite to beta test tabula rasa i was really hoping this would fill my swg void. I was beyond wrong i cant believe anyone in there right mind would want to clone the nge LOL. The only difference between tabula rasa and nge is nge lets you make other races where tabula rasa is just humans thats it. So STO (star trek online) is my only hope left man what a letdown. The other thing to is tabula rasa truly seems like a gi joe mmo lmao i kid you not. I felt like asking does anyone have the quest to kill 20 cobra gaurd dogs lol. So go figure..

It's actually pretty good and fun, if you can get over SWG already.
It's other parts that make the game awful tbh.
Give CCP a year or two to implement then improve the ground game for EVE, and who knows we may yet have a really good sci-fi MMORPG game that takes up where pre-NGE SWG left off. Personally I rather like the idea of player run shopping malls in space stations... who knows, you can already buy bulk Marines, it would not be beyond possibility that in a couple of years they will have a distress beacon go off on some remote planet, upon which someone is just bound to land on and investigate...
I really dont see the similarities between NGE and TR. It has combat animations instead of the retarded particle effects. The sound effects match the weapons. No "Benny Hill" movement. Mobs rarely shoot thru walls and getting rarer. Instances! The crafting sucks but they are workin on it. I enjoy the game for what it is, I enjoyed Pre CU better but TR is improving quickly. Thank god it isnt anything like the NGE and double thanks that it has nothing to do with $OE.
I do see some similarties between TR and NGE, but as said above it seems much improved. The landscape however seems strikingly familiar, kind of like WoW's, and the combat content reminds me of the story Starship Troopers and a pseudo-FPS seems to make sense with this type of sci-fi game like PlanetSide was.
I've seen vids of it on Youtube before and wasn't sure when it'd come out, I'm checking into the public beta right now myself and if it's good I may pick this up in Nov.
Yep i feel ur pain buddy, TR is like NGE mixed with guildwars. I will definately be giving it a miss in retail.
As I've said before in many a thread, Tabula Rasa is what the NGE *should* have been. I would have kept playing if it was like it in the least. The only other reason the NGE really sucked was the total class change. I like TR because eventhough they have certain classes, you can still make a really different build off of the class that you end up becoming. I mean every weapon you have goes into a play style/build. So eventhough you will always have 5 weapons slotted, you will also be able to trade out Logos skills for grenades, or bombs. Or weapons for repair tools and healing discs. You can pretty much customize the way you play. Thats not to say the game isn't without it's problems, but if the NGE was like TR, I'd stil play it, thats for sure. TR is liveable, the NGE is laughable.
The difference between the nge and Tabula Rasa, is that TR was done right.
Really a testament to the devs at NC Soft. Guess hiring real talent does pay off.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

I played SWG pre-CU / pre-NGE and I played SWG recently with the trial.
I played the TR beta a few months ago and I started playing it again a few days ago.
TR is MUCH better done and a lot more fun the current NGE-SWG. Does it beat out pre-CU SWG? I dunno, haven't gotten that far into TR yet.
If anything, TR is more like Earth and Beyond but on the ground. And I loved Earth and Beyond.
This is what keeps me playing EVE after 3.5 years. They release huge content and they do add a hell of a lot of stuff just as you are starting to look for new options. So another year for me cause I want one of those shops!
yup i know i made this Pre-cu?, Current SWG? or Tabula Rasa? but taking back what i said, needed to get use to it, and well some might already seen me in the TR section. So my opinion of my first impression has completly change'd towards TR, and yes Shayde this time i agree with you
TR is not a game I was ever interested in. When/IF Eve ever implements ground avatars to their game I'm in. Infiniti is what I am waiting on. Also, there is a new Age of Conan video, I know it's not Sci-Fi but it looks pretty sweet.
I had already heard enough about TR to know that it was not a game I wouldn't be intertested in. Even less now since it has NGE traits.
Why on earth would any game want to use the NGE look or fps look when nge or any other mmo has yet to pull it off yet? The problem with fps and mmo is lag thats why the turn style will always be better in mmos where fps is aimi if u can move and hope they enemy hasnt moved while your shooting lol.

I have to print that the SWG devs could learn from this game with the target system. But SOE won't.
I played a bit more on TR, I can't say it seems to be the NGE clone, I think it's a bit more of an EQ/WoW clone with its interface; the backpack, character window, vendor interface (buy/sellback/repair), item comparison (equipped/viewing), loot window, quest log window, etc.
The UI is somewhat ugly and a bit hard for me to read because of my eye sight and I wish I could move parts of the UI around, but I do like over-the-shoulder zoom which is what ranged professions in SWG should have had in the beginning when NGE had no over-the-head reticle option, and quests gives way more xp than grinding which I believe might keep a minimum on powerlevellers and farmers in the future.
When I looked at Tabula Rasa I was reminded of the time I wasted on Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus, though in fairness to final fantasy, at least they can keep their art, music and story top notch, the only thing the series is really lacking in is gameplay at this point. I wish games developers would start opening their eyes a bit soon really.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
The gameplay in TR is the NGE with polish. knowing that doesnt make it great by any means. The problem with Tr is its still a level grind fest with guns. Nothing in it is unique or keeps you very intrested ,unless you like the same game youve been playing for years. TR wouldve been great with skill sets with x amount of points build your own toon. But just like every game before it, it just follows the same formula. Doesnt mean TR is a bad game at all. Just super boring too me and reminds me way too much of the crapfest called the NGE.,
