Just browsing this forum had to comment on this since its bullshit its all well and good not to like wow but talking out your arse just makes you look stupid, personally i think wow has turned into a shit game since battlegrounds were added anyway to counter that stuff: 1: You pvp with purpose in wow to its called having FUN i know shocking revelation isnt it, I dont like wow btw. Also if you need objectives to have fun theres getting high ranks collecting honor, etc much the same as warhammers pvp system will end up being just ways of seeing whos "best". Yes. Fighting people you never see on your server in random instanced battlegrounds is FUN. Especially when you have to fight them 1000 times in a row for no purpose at all. What do you gain from killing the same scrubs over and over? It is something that becomes very boring. PVP should be something that naturally occurs, not by having players queue up for an artificial pvp system that has no effect on the server. Maybe if you pvped over NPCs, or some other reason, then it would have a purpose. 2: You dont need to pve in wow to pvp either, you used to have to pve to be able to pvp, now you pvp to get pvp gear and pve to get pve gear, also shocking but it took them ages to figure that one out. Yes. In essence, it says there are 2 endgames. One endgame is where you PVE for several hours a day and do very hard challenges. The gear you get from these encounters isnt good enough to justify their use in PvP. Even if it was, gear doesn't have a huge effect in WoW like in EQ. So, there isn't much point to PvEing to get PvP gear. Rather, you have the endgame where people spend their whole night doing the same boring thing over and over, fighting other players. It's a way for blizzard to buy time so people don't beat their expansions fast. 3: Only thing different between the two, although you used to be able to turn in marks and do pvp quests repeatedly to level, they removed it due to how many people like twinks. Yes, people like twinks in WoW because the game sucks and is boring. You have to constantly remake characters due to sheer boredom. What happens when they realize the game sucks when all their twinks are max level? They quit. 4: Sounds like wow you die you go to the nearest gy its the same in warhammer no death penalty just time lost, so it will have the same problem wow has you respawn, you kill you die, you respawn rinse and repeat. Probably fun though since thats all an fps is anyway. Sounds like another carebear pvp system that doesn't make sense. If you die, go back to your town or something I don't want to kill you again in a minute. I guess they will discourage pvp because people who actually pvp have to put up with annoying newbies attacking them and respawning right next to them with no penalty. It shows you that WAR is just a PVE game like WoW with some propaganda about how it is pvp oriented. 5: wow doesnt have sieging yet they also havent released much info on it. It will be pointless anyway since the buildings are static they dont get destroyed it will just look like the destroyed bunkers in av. Same with warhammer nothing gets destroyed since its heavily instanced the instance will just resest when you win. Instances are a joke. If I wanted to play in instances I would play an RTS with 8 people per instance. It's just a way to remove the MMO aspect of MMORPGs. They want to save money by throwing people in instances where bandwidth is saved. But they break the game up and the community as well. People in WoW are nobodies because the lack of community. How often do you have to fight people on the same server in BGs? You usually fight some random people from servers you cant pronounce. 6: they have changed wow to the point where fears and stuns dont last ages they last less than a few seconds most people who complain since the burning crusade was released are noobs because there is no reason to get for instanced stun locked or fear spammed any more due to how many ways their are to break it or resit it in the first place. All warhammer is doing is adding this feature first so they dont get all the whining untill its eventually dealt with like in wow. 7: this one is such a pointless feature its just a way of hiding the kill x of y quests most likely it will encourage grinding since you never know who may want what, also most people probably go straight to the quest giver anyway so they know what to kill to avoid said grinding. And last bit what kind of moron would lose a quest item in wow? even if they did all you need to do is drop the quest and pick it up again also this system is, is a way of idiot proofing the game. This game really doesnt look much different from wow to be honest its quite sad, apparently they are dumbing this game down even more than wow as well didnt think that was possible, its not exactly a good thing for a pvp game to have a even less complex system than wow. You're right. WAR is WoW with a lot of BS information coming from the devs. The games will be identical. There will be no point of PvP other than you gaining some kind of points for it. It will fail too if it is going to be mostly PVP oriented. No one wants to kill the same newbies over and over, no matter how good you are. It just gets boring. They should have more PVE content in the game to deal with the monotony of killing newbs over and over. Anyway sure this game will do well, the name Warhammer will sell it alone, its not a wow killer though people should stop deluding themselfs in to thinking it is, no game will kill wow except wow itself which i think it already has done for a lot of people.
edit: btw you would think a game built from the ground up for pvp would offer something truely different from a game that added pvp as a side feature lol especially if that short list of 6 is all that sets it appart theres the rvr but its just going to be a large scale av since its not persistant it just restarts after you win or lose. EQ's pvp system was better than any of these new MMORPGs. People fight over NPCs and zones. The game was horribly unbalanced. However, the battles lasted up to 40 minutes each and involved hundreds of players. You didn't have people running back in ghost form to respawn on you and keep the fight going forever. There are winners and losers in EQ PVP, unlike WAR and WoW. And EQ's pvp system was never really focused on at all. It's funny how WoW has a somewhat more balanced system yet the game is extremely boring due to the Diablo2-Like pvp system where you only last in terms of seconds and not minutes. Apparently respawning every few seconds is blizzards / Warhammers idea of a pvp system.
so you dont like the game and you think all the press releases are lies and this is WoW 2.0? what because a pvp centered game doesent have harsh enuff death penilties? cna you loot the dead in WoW and get gold and gear but not the person you killed like they where a mob? are there open world quests in wow for PvP that have meaning to the over all battle feild? do the territories change hands as there conquared in WoW? there are winners in WAR maybe not in the same sense as EQ but you can win the war for awhile anyway. who sayes battles wont last 40 min who says ther will be ghosts running to bodies to respawn. we have only seen instance death not open world I wager there a hefty run in open world. and lastly why are you basing your point off information that hasent even been released yet/things that sound like youmaking up? a rather uniformed opinion in my mind. but as you say all the "media","devs" and "releases" must be all lies... o sorry it seems I got sarcasm everywhere with that last line let me clean that up.
I say, why threads about this? I mean, if people want to play WoW, let them play WoW. Darkfall for Darkfall players, WAR for WAR players. Don't mention about how bad the x game and say that y game is better. Let us play whatever game we want. Darkfall, AoC and WAR and lots of the coming MMOs will rock. Seriously, let us just play the game we will find lots of fun. Never bash other games, just... try not to. :P
Even if it doesn't make sense on this thread, then at least try to not flame my post. That's going to be your "test", heh... Can't refuse? Then I'll understand how this forum is anyway.
Edit: I'd rather say, forums should seriously have been a place to get information about some parts, but not the entire detail about the game. The untold details should've really been on the forums after the release of the MMO game. It's much easier, instead of the flame wars.
I dunno, really, but I only want threads like this to not end up like the last one. Over 300 posts or whatever, and it got finally locked.
It's funny how it seems that the most vocal WARbois are former WoW players who have 5 maxed chars and now claim the game is crap.
Hehe, not only is WAR gona be WoW 2.0 it's gona have the same people there too... and by the depth of their posts I say it's a great thing. Imagine how the comunitiy in WoW will improve once leet people move to WAR... can't wait.
god like we need the newbie asshats of wow o come to war...if that happens i can bet the normal ppl will ban together to and PK them day in and day out (like pick a specific D-bag) til they quit lmao, that would be fantastic. im really excited and looking forward to this game, and i dont need WoW newbie MMO gamers ruing the game cause they think they are "Leet" for maxing out on the MMO-lite game WoW.

Now how do you even know that? None, sorry. It's better by waiting first and see how the games will go, instead of just talking plain useless "theories", especially after 6 months. Seriously, how hard is it to just wait and see, instead of making a flame war? And WAR sure will have some ex-WoW players, but which game won't have one? Ever thought of that? Darkfall will have ex-WoW players, AoC will have ex-WoW players, WAR, Aion, whatever coming mmo-games. If people don't have any important to talk about then WoW vs. WAR and "WoW 2.0"... please, try at least to have some polite thoughts and just wait to see how the game will be, instead of talking trash. Now that I've written this, I am sure nobody would care. Typical trollers and such. Flame me if you wish, and you'll show my point, hehe.
Edit: And it's funny how it seems that you are a WoWboi, SonofSeth.
We should just stop trying to convince the WoW players that WAR is different. The people that actually took the time to research the game, and see how it is nothing like WoW will be playing together while the others will still be playing WoW. That way we don't end up with a bunch of Leet 12 year olds.

The problem is that thosse who actual argue that War is just WoW 2.0 are thosse who come running after release to play WoW 2.0. No matter what they are saying now!
So actual convincing that War is different is needed to keep thosse who want WoW 2.0 away
But no matter, i think we are going to end up with all the Leet 12 years old anyway. Because in that age your have alot of sense for what is the Cool new thing to do.
How about this, wait until WAR comes out and then we can see. People are speculating way too much. To you WoW fanboys who keep trying to make WAR sound bad, get a frickin' life. It wont be out for another 4 months so how about you go back to raiding in your little world. Thanks.
Of course war is just a game, what did you expect? A second coming?
It's goign to be wow 2.0? As in wow, which will have open world pvp, where you can take control of zones, have daoc like rps system, have caped loot, not have uber items, have focus on pvp and not pve, with class balance revolving around pvp and not pve appliaction? Sign me up
People fall in the same pit fall every time. Just because YOU don't like something, or think that mmos need to get away from auto attack, or to implement full loot, or to implement something else in order to make a good game, doesn't actually make it true. It just mean that for YOU to enjoy a game (or at least accordign to your claims) a game would need to do that.
You aren't the only mmo player out there, and it's pretty clear that there are tons of people who want to play war, reagrdless if it's wow 2.0, eq3.5 or daoc 2.1 Although you may not like what war has to offer, it doesn't mean anythign except we aren't likely to see you in the game

You do realize that warhammer is dumbing the game down even more than wow right lol
It will have glowing npcs, a even more lineir path to max level than wow does, it even has even a idiot proof system so you dont some how manage to delete quest items, it has a system in place so you can complete quests before you even accept them, it has a quest system that makes it impossible to get lost etc How is that not mmo-lite mode.
Personally i have played most of the games that are considered hardcore and they are nothing but time sinks. All mmos are piss easy, there isnt any exception the only thing that seperates them is the amount of grinding that they have.
Warhammer is making a game that is as simple as possible, so that more people can play it just like wow has made a game that is as simple as possible so more people can get into it.
OP, I can't tell you how this game differs from World of Warcraft as I'm not in the beta. And neither are the other posters in this thread. So basically all we have are the podcasts and info from the developers - and I have a gut feeling we won't hear of any shortcomings from these sources.
What I do know, however, is that this community is no different from the one you have in World of Warcraft. Please notice the tone in this thread and you'll see what I mean.

Every game's community is different. Spend a week in WoW, and then spend a week playing EVE Online. Its honestly the most black and white example you'll find right now. The type of gamer that an MMO attracts is based on a ton of different factors like learning curve, risk vs reward system, RP vs Non-RP server, overall complexity, existing community maturity, etc.
I also wouldn't put too much stock in using forum community as an accurate sample; especially pre-launch. Nobody expected WoW to blow up the way it did, and the forum community was pretty decent before it did. Also, DAoC had one of the most mature communities in my mind, but the forums were more whining than I would have liked (not that it was only whining).
I think the best thing that could happen to WAR as far as building a mature playerbase is if it had a rocky start at launch so all but the IP-fans and MMO vets moved on. Even if the sophomoric players eventually filed back in, the community would already be established and most wouldn't stick around.
This Tea Pot, is NOTHING like the Kettle!!! Ohhhh give it up. The reason why there are 300 topics about how much Warhammer looks, and Feels like WoW is because, IT DOES! It's not the same game, and like any other 2 games there are a great many differences, but if you took 10 people off the street and showed them 10 seconds of WoW footage, and 10 Seconds of Warhammer Footage, and asked them HOW many different games did they see, They'd say .. 1.
Nah, you got it all wrong man. I'll help you out since watching those podcasts where devs tell you how war is designed obviously doesn't explain anything. War has the same exp grind. But it's not like wow! wtf wow? lol, wth is that anyway? War's exp system is like That of EQ1 (a game that came out some 6 years before wow, so you were probably too little to play it back then, but now that you are 12.. ah the possiblities) much less grindy or annoying of course, but still an eq like exp system. Pvp system is not like wow, it's like daoc. Another game where you could only pvp in certain zones, did quite well. Althoguh it came out only a year or so after eq so beign 7 at the time it's unlikely you got to play it ither. Although, what is this amazing pvp game where you fight for control of a zone that contains raid npcs? And why the heck would I want a zone with raid npcs in it if I am playing a pvp game, which would imply I am looking for pvp not pve? And no, war's pvp is not like wow where you die and are back in the fight in 30 seconds. it's like counter strike (an fps game people played for years) where you are back in about 15 seconds after you die half the timer twice the fun!
At any rate, if after watching pod casts and looking at faq and fan forums you still don't understand what's the difference between wow and war is, there is no hope for you ever seeing it. Of note, war is not a pvp game, war is a very heavily rvr focused game.
Yeah because you know my age now, right?
I don't care for your response if it is only based on biased videos straight from the developers
I want information from people who played the game and their impressions of whether or not it is similar to WoW (probably just a WoW with different graphics).
But yeah I can definitely see how some kid such as yourself would believe everything the devs tell you.
Also, I suggest when you try to insult someone by saying they are a "12 year old", you learn how to spell trivial words like "either", it is not "ither". Just shows that MMORPGs attract the dumbest kind of people imo

21 is a kid. i don't see where you refuted his assumptions that you didn't play older games. if you're going to mock someone's typos, then you should pay attention to grammar & punctuation yourself.
if all you've ever played in the mmo-genre is wow - then folks that have played since UO won't take you seriously - ever.
so, at level 1-10 you can go pvp in a battleground in wow? nope. you can start pvp'ing at lvl 1 in war. you can join in one one of the "group quests" at lvl 1 - where you go join in on a greenskin assault on a dwarf-hold. every fight/battle you win at level 1, adds to that tier's score. these get added to all the other tiers. so at lvl 1 - you CAN contribute to your side getting an attack on the enemy's capital. what does wow have to compare to that?
so from just the very basest information available about war -- your question is seen as a troll. coupled with this first response of yours, it's definitely a troll.
you come here saying you've watched all the videos; but you couldn't be arsed to do any research. you compare wow to war. Yet, to anyone that's paid any attention for the last 10-15 years (which would definitely be beyond the time of a 21 year old), it's blatantly OBVIOUS that the warcraft series pretty much stole ideas/content directly from warhammer from the very first warcraft game to present. someone even posted that a couple of posts down from the op. so you don't have to be older than a 21 year old kid, if you'd just look around a bit and do a tad bit of research. when you ask questions that ARE easily researched and/or common knowledge to the people you're questioning - you might want to wear some thicker skin.
since you seem to have played wow a bit - is your high level toon dressed like all the other lvl 70s? not only in looks, but in exact gear? if not, is it because you haven't grinded enough instances to get whatever is the latest tier gear? in war, if i put the beatdown on a lot of dwarves, you'll know it at a glance, because you'll see a whole lot of dwarven beard trophies hanging off my toon. that's a pvp thing you don't see in wow (until they decide to copy warhammer some more).
bleh, i've got like 5 more pages to read in this thread.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
Except WAR copied basically all of the graphics from WoW including ridiculous looking armor sets and classes. Why wouldn't they copy everything else about WoW that sucks? it's just going to be an alternative WoW imo. And how are they correct if all the information they have is straight from the company making the game? That is just biased and useless information.
except that warhammer predates warcraft by what? 10 or 15 years? so how exactly did warhammer acquire a time machine, go into the future, copy warcraft and then transfer those images to their tabletop figurines three decades back?
i understand that part of being a 21 year old kid is thinking you know it all; but come on now, seriously, do a LITTLE research once in a while.

it looks like its time to repeat here ... again ............................................. Warhammer developers have said (in one of the videos) that the game is only innovative in 3 areas. For the rest they are using whats already establish as working and expected to be in MMOs, maybe in a refined and polished new way , and maybe not. The 3 areas are Public quests (trademarked btw) Realm vs Realm (trademarked as well) and Tome of knowledge. Thats It. Thats the NEW STUFF. the point is that most of the hardcore fans see plenty off stuff here to give a improved gameexperience , some also see a new one emerge from it aswell. but too sum it up. this game looks like its going to bring development to the questing system, and the playing experience around quest. (no need to waste 30 minuttes looking for a group, anyone ?). it does give a RvR centered play experience that should give both a story line and endgame goals. designed for both PvE and PVP from the start. And i expect it to blend thesse into a new experience for most players ,both pvE or pvP centrics. it does aim at improve the in game information (questlog) to a level where it should not be needed to go online on a thirdparty website to get info about where to go and what to do. And be a tool for collectors and give bragging rights aswell! For me this sounds like some natural improvements to the MMorpg status we have now. If its enough to be a NEW experience time will show, but it certainly shows alot of promise! ........................................
great quote, i might steal it from you in the near future.

UO probably sucks, that is why I never played it. I played EQ, a real MMORPG without carebear pvp systems for newbies.
What research are you talking about? The information provided by Mythic, or by the obsessed fans in this forum? Does that information mean anything? doubt it. You wouldnt know how bad TR sucked unless you played it because of all the obsessed fans in that forum.
Dressed like all the other 70s? When I played WOW, I had beaten every instance and had the best gear. I dont know what you mean by "dressed".
Grinding instances is harder than killing the same garbage players over and over. At least there is some standard of skill when you go into a certain instance. When you pvp people in WoW, they are pretty much guaranteed to suck.
Who cares about PvP in WAR if it is going to be over pointless things? Your dwarven trophy is worthless if there is no real pvp system. What happened to fighting over things that have meaning? For instance, guild A calls a raid on zone Z, and spots guild B in the same zone. In EQ, you would have your guild mass before the zone and try to sneak-up and attack them. In WAR, do they even have that? Or is it, you go to these PVP only zones to PVP for no point?

"The ultimate goal in RvR combat is the sacking of an enemy's capital city. To do this, an army must invade and take control of the opposition's homeland. Deciding battles take place on objective-based battlefields and in instanced scenarios - point-balanced battles that make use of NPC mercenaries known as Dogs of War. "
"Next generation Realm vs. Realm game system integrating both PvP combat and PvE quests on the
same map in support of the greater war. Engage in four levels of RvR combat:
- Skirmishes: Incidental PvP combat
- Battlefields: Objective-based battles in the game world
- Scenarios: Instanced, point-based battles balanced with NPC Dogs of War
- Campaigns: The invasion of enemy lands culminating in the assault on their capital city "
I don't think this is pointless, but you may. I think it has a lot of appeal to those who think they are hard core and for those who are care bear, because you can play on either level. You can spend your whole time RVR or PVE or a mixture of the two. It is important to note that there is less PVE content at higher levels and you can gain levels on RVR alone.
So for those that like to just fight other players this should be a great game.
Oh and if anyone wants to know more about RVR see these two podcasts

Wow, I dunno what to say. If you think static responses to players actions is more challenging than the random responses players will have then you're just reading the wrong forums.
I dunno about you but PVE has always seemed 10 billion times easier than PVP because npcs will react a specific way always... players don't. But hey, if static responses are a challenge then by all means, think it's carebear.
My guess is you're just trying to stir things up anyway but hey, it's funny the way you look silly.

so you dont like the game and you think all the press releases are lies and this is WoW 2.0? what because a pvp centered game doesent have harsh enuff death penilties? cna you loot the dead in WoW and get gold and gear but not the person you killed like they where a mob? are there open world quests in wow for PvP that have meaning to the over all battle feild? do the territories change hands as there conquared in WoW? there are winners in WAR maybe not in the same sense as EQ but you can win the war for awhile anyway. who sayes battles wont last 40 min who says ther will be ghosts running to bodies to respawn. we have only seen instance death not open world I wager there a hefty run in open world. and lastly why are you basing your point off information that hasent even been released yet/things that sound like youmaking up? a rather uniformed opinion in my mind. but as you say all the "media","devs" and "releases" must be all lies... o sorry it seems I got sarcasm everywhere with that last line let me clean that up.
I totally agree with Scriars last post. I 2nd his post he took many of my points.
WAR is just another game, add it to the bargin bin.

Hehe, but that's exactly what will happen.
i cant wait il u wow newbs play this and relize it nothing liek it except for mabey the look...all in due time ppl all in due time.
Yet, to anyone that's paid any attention for the last 10-15 years (which would definitely be beyond the time of a 21 year old), it's blatantly OBVIOUS that the warcraft series pretty much stole ideas/content directly from warhammer from the very first warcraft game to present. someone even posted that a couple of posts down from the op. so you don't have to be older than a 21 year old kid, if you'd just look around a bit and do a tad bit of research. when you ask questions that ARE easily researched and/or common knowledge to the people you're questioning - you might want to wear some thicker skin.
since you seem to have played wow a bit - is your high level toon dressed like all the other lvl 70s? not only in looks, but in exact gear? if not, is it because you haven't grinded enough instances to get whatever is the latest tier gear? in war, if i put the beatdown on a lot of dwarves, you'll know it at a glance, because you'll see a whole lot of dwarven beard trophies hanging off my toon. that's a pvp thing you don't see in wow (until they decide to copy warhammer some more).
bleh, i've got like 5 more pages to read in this thread.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
except that warhammer predates warcraft by what? 10 or 15 years? so how exactly did warhammer acquire a time machine, go into the future, copy warcraft and then transfer those images to their tabletop figurines three decades back?
i understand that part of being a 21 year old kid is thinking you know it all; but come on now, seriously, do a LITTLE research once in a while.

great quote, i might steal it from you in the near future.

That is stupid. Carebear MMORPGs piss me off.
Realm game system integrating both PvP combat and PvE quests on thesame map in support of the greater war.
