Oh heh you should MENTION that right at the beginning :P That you're fan of guild wars and hellgate. That's like being a fan of Diablo going to Planescape Torment forums saying the game sucks and it bores you to death.

Guildwars has no grinding, except for "grinding" other players. Also: Just about as much an MMO as Diablo II. Except the lobby looks nicer. Also: Instanced to the max.

Hellgate: London has just about as much grinding as any hack & slash, which is a whole lot. It's just more enjoyable due to the hack & slash nature. Also: Just about as much an MMO as Guildwars. Except the lobby looks like a london subway/underground/tube station. Also: Instanced to the max.

If you think about it, there's only two MMO's out there without grinding: DDO and Eve. And technically, Eve is still a grind, except different (grinding bad jokes on Teamspeak during hours of gatecamps)

Now playing: City of Heroes/Villains, Age of Conan

Played: Eve, Hg:L, Vanguard, WoW, FFXI, Planetside, Neocron, Battlezone, EQII, AO, CoX, AA, DDO

    I win at Vanguard.

You can't make a turd smell good either.  You can spray all the lysol or hang a fresh scent from it, but at the end of a day. . .it's still toilet food.

Vanguard is a solid and amazing game.  I have played 14 different subsciption MMOs and a fair number of the recently released wave of 'free' MMOs.  This is the only game that truely captivates me when I play.  Every time I play something else I find myself missing one of the features that Vanguard has brought to the market.

What you folks need to bear in mind, with your quick-to-judge-and-damn attitudes, is that every MMO is still effectively in Beta for the first year of launch.  If you want to come back and check out a game after it has been out for a year then I would say you are making an honest assessment of the game the way it was meant to be.

The simple fact is that game developers frequently push to realease a game within a certain budget, and then turn and launch the game only to go bankrupt.  Vanguard certainly falls into this category.  The beauty of the situation was that they already had a strong working relationship with SoE before the collapse, and SoE was able to step in quickly and buy the game and keep it alive.  They've pulled their best developers from their other titles to work on Vanguard, and the effort that has gone into the game since SoE has taken over is quite apparent and the work really shines.

Be glad that this is a Sony title, and if you haven't played I recommend that you go check it out.  If you played in Beta, then now is a good time to come back.  If you played at launch, then you should already know the tale.  Either way, the game is finally very close to where they wanted it to be at launch originally, and it really shows.

Personally, I rarely say anything about Vanguard, but posts like yours are misleading.  You try to minimize the problems that this game had by saying all games are essentially in beta the first year.  In reality, most betas are better than this game was months after release.  If the developers mismanaged their HUGE budget on this title, that's their problem.

They only way most people are going to come back to try this game out is when there's a free trial available.  After the way the players were mislead and screwed at the beginning, a free trial the least the company could do.

BTW, with a history of only one post and based on your comments, I suspect you're not just another player.

I was in the VG beta, and all you who were in it knows that it had low fps as hell. I guessed it were going to be better when it release, well it did and it was just going better & better. But when i hit around lvl 14 with my blood mage i was asking myself, whats the end content in this game? is there anything to do in this except buying a house & a boat by yourself, or is it some big lore like wow have had against the burning legion. I looked it up and i couldnt find one simple reason to get to the highest level in VG, that's why i ended my sub. If anyone of you guys here know anything about high end content that is coming or has been implemented please write =), cause i really like the game itself, its just that, with no high-end content it makes me sad and then i would rather wait for some.

Game Update 3.2 will introduce the first raid content to the game.  This is in the way of above ground raid mobs.

Game Update 3.3 will introduce the first raid dungeon to the game called Ancient Port Warehouse (APW).  There has been a lot of work that has gone in to the development and testing of APW, and it should be an amazing content upgrade for the game.

The work they have been doing in getting the game ready for GU 3.3 has lead to some really big improvements in game performance and bug fixes of which came out last week in GU 3.1.

Here is a teaser they posted on the official website a while back:

Designer, John Hegner, tells the story behind this ancient protector:

Exalted X-99 is one of the late Professor Hopton's masterpieces. Within the powerful armored body of this colossus resides the soul of Tarselis, the exalted paladin sworn to defend the gnomes of Innovus against any aggressors. But, nearly a thousand years time spent entombed within an iron body can take its toll on even the purest of souls, and Tarselis has slipped further and further from humanity. Only the commands of the core processor have any meaning for him any longer, and the core processor demands the destruction of any trespassers. X-99 is beyond reason or compassion; only death will end his servitude.

Death will end his servitude, and possibly place in your hands this amazing Warsword:

That looks sweet, i just re-opened my subscription for VG. I'm thinking of starting a new char again on a different server, Wich is the best server with minimum lag and good players (aka. active server) ?

Both questions depend on where you are from. If you're from the US then the server with less lag and a larger population will be Xeth. If you're European then there's only one place for you and that is Halgar. If you're into PvP then the server for you is Sartok.

Like most MMOs it's full of people complaining about class balance. As I play on a PVE server, the only thing that I'm interested in is which class is the most fun to play. However, if you're interested, most people would say the Bard and Cleric shine above others in PVP.

I'm European, but i'm not sure if want to play as a spellcaster. I know i wanna play on a pvp server but the difference in VG with PvP/PvE is still only that you can kill people from other factions? and if i dont choose  a pvp server will i never be able to join a battleground or a event where you can fight amongst the others? If so, i guess i "need" to make a char at Sartok. I have my other char at Dhaknarg wich i have around 500ms more or less, not so happy about that.

When they merged the servers, they merged the Team PVP and FFA PVP together so now there's just one PVP server and it's FFA. You can kill anyone at anytime pretty much anywhere.

Right now, the only PVP on the other servers are duels. I have no clue if they'll ever put in a battlegrounds type situation on the PVE servers but I highly doubt it. Nothing like that has been mentioned by a dev that I've seen.

If PVP is what you're after, then Sartok is the only choice.

So Sartok is PvP for both Euro and US, or just Euro?

If both what is the lag like?

I said i was playing on Dahknarg but then i saw it was only the location in the game, i'm playing on Sartok and there i had yesterday around 495ms, i live in europe/scandinavia. But i hope it was only something temporary with the ms there.

I had high expectations too, but they were crushed and its going to take a lot more proof to get me back into the game.  I really do think it needs a trial so that we could see if the changes are legitimate or if it is just smoke and mirrors.

  • JamLDJamLD Member Posts: 59

Sartok is the PVP server for both US and EU players.

I don't play there much so I can't speak personally about the lag but Sartok players are complaining about lag in large battles with 15-20 plus people involved. Most seem to think the hacks are causing the lag but again, I don't know if it's true or not.

And I agree with you about the free trial. With every other pay to play game having a free trial, SOE really needs to get that out ASAP so people can try it out risk free.

They are working on a free trial at the moment.  Nobody knows what the actuall date is for it's release, but it is coming.

As for active servers, Seradon is a very active server for US PvE.
