I played the demo of this game and I have to say that I don't see what the big deal is. The game play is stale and repetitve. I'd play it as a free to play game, but there's no way in hell I'd pay any amount of money as a monthly fee.
And what's the deal with all the ads? Do the ads go away if you pay?
This game has so much hype surounding it, and the hype is not justified.

I dont know what the fuss is all about the ads in game, its not like they are flashing in big red letters and obscructing you view to a kill. They are on the subway walls mostly and I breeze past them anyways.
DR you can pay as well, if you like, same mechanics (sorta), different game. However no initial cost like HGL. DR sucks though if you play it free (imo). I gotta few friends trying to bring me there, I think I had enough with the fantasy world for now unless its Guild Wars. But I do have it loaded up and have dedicated a few hours in that game. DR is a good game for your kids to play if there into fantasy. Otherwise open a subscription to Disney Online.
I played the demo and thought it was pretty dull too, but i have been given an opportunity to play it more and it just gets betters.
It is in a whole different league to Dungeon Runners.
I hadn't even rated this game at all, i haven't been keeping updated on it etc Now i'll certainly be buying it!
Anyone who loved the concept of the Diablo games will love this. It has all the same charms but with much more polish and depth.
I've only played for two days and i'm crying over the fact the characters get wiped
Cant understand why people say is "stale and repettive" and surely are grinding like crazy in a click & point game!
Of course everyone is free to like one thing o another, but, just saying I dont understand why they found this "repetitive" when it changes everymap, and, seriously, cant find where is the relationship with dungeon runners...

I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm not grinding in any point and click game. I'm not grinding in any game for that matter. I'm not going to waste my time on grinds and timesinks. They aren't fun and as long as they are being used as staples for the MMORPG genre, I won't be playing.
I canceled all my subs and I stand firm on refusing to pay a monthly fee for repetitve crap.
Dungeon Runners and Hellgate have basically the exact same control scheme. So the maps are randomized... big deal. That doesn't warrant a $10 a month sub. Guild Wars offers more than that and it's free.
Tis game is for kids. Adults should avoid tis.
Eh, don't like grinding? Tell me how to make an item hunt/action RPG game interesting without grind? You want all the stuff handed to you in a linear fashion?
You're surely entitled to your oppinion, but I don't see why you feel it necessary to come and complain about grinding on a game that obviously per definition has grinding as a feature (yes, people pay to grind - and enjoy it).
Lets see.. D2 = grind, Final Fantasy = grind, Anarchy Online = grind .. wait a minute, ALL mmorpgs have grind - what a concept. Let's bash it anyway.

Oh, really? I never would have guessed, seeing as it's rated M!
Thank you for that enlightening, grammatically correct statement.
On to more things...Repetitive, eh? How, exactly, is it more repetitive to have dungeons that are completely different each time you enter them than to visit the exact same place over and over again. How repetitive is it to have a near-infinite variety of items on endgame characters as opposed to 5 per class?
Sir, I believe you might be much mistaken...
Imho the game's casual, happy-go-lucky style will appeal much more to players with limited playtime and those who do have their share of stress and competition in real life.
As a representative of 30-something, working and upwardly mobile crowd, I (and a lot of my pals in similar circumstances) find this game much more attractive than classical MMORPGs that promise (and advertise) to take over your life.
Among other games that I played I tried EVE online, for example... It is an awesome game to be sure, but I really have enough RL hard work, competition, money worries etc to take them into my leisure time. If I were 10 years younger (and maybe 10 years older) I'm sure I'd play it incessantly. Now I want some nice casual quality fun without pressure and this is what this game seems to deliver.
I expect the average age of HG:L players to be 5+ years above the normal MMORPG player age. The fact that a lot of old Diablo players will flock to this game is bound to contribute to this as well.
Cheers!

... which is good news for 'money sucking vampiros of EA' since this player demographic has a bit more funds available than traditional teens and college students crowd.. 10$ a month means absolutely nothing to me - my time is what is expensive. I'd pay 10$ a day for an hour or two of guaranteed quality leisure time when I get home from work each day.
I'd have to agree the game doesn't just appeal to kids. I'm on the upper end of 40 and find this game is a nice fit for what I need now days. Something casual and fun where I can jump in and play for an hour or two.
Unfortunately hardcore days playing games have taken a back seat to real life EQ, EQ2, Vanguard and even wow have all been put on hold indefinitely....
