Questions about AoC!

i was looking at WAR but i have recently lost interest because i am sick and tired of elves and orcs and all that jazz... Then i looked at AoC and it really seems like a breath of fresh air, but i have a couple of questions about things i need a little clarification on.

1.) Will players actually be able to 'create cities' or even buildings for that matter?

2.) I heard you can only  PvP in the Border Kingdoms, how big of an area is that excactly, and can you still do trading and PvE there too? Or is it exclusively PvP?

3.) I have also heard a person on these forums say that most everything in game is made by the players, that would mean there must be tons and tons of trade skills to learn,  is this correct?

4.) I haven't really read anything about classes in AoC, are there classes or just a number of skills you master to customize your style of fighting?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    1) Yes, Guilds can create guild cities that will function just like NPC cities but that the NPCs there will serve the players...true personal housing will come later after launch.

    2) it is HUGE, it goes through all three kingdoms of the game...this game is designed for massive guild vs guild pvp so they ought to be huge.Purpose of border kingdoms is that guilds take over resource spawns by building forts/keeps on top of them and defending them.

     3) Some items are done by crafting, most are not...Not much has been said about crafting yet but there is alchemist, weaponsmith, armorsmith and some others i dont remember confirmed...crafters are also vital for repairing keep walls and building forts.

    In addition...

2.) Also, on PvP servers, PvP is NOT restricted to the borderlands, and is accessible almost anywhere you can go.

3.) While there are several ways to get gear other than crafting, tradeskilled weapons and armor are the only kind that can be customized for specific situations. In any particular fight, a player in crafted gear customized the right way will have an edge over anyone and everyone else using other kinds of gear. (assuming other factors aren't in play)

4.) At level 5 you choose your Archetype, at level 20 you choose your specific class within that archetype. As far as skills go, AoC is using a level/skill hybrid system. That is to say that at any particular level you have a wide variety of choices in what skills to invest, in order to customize your character's abilities. Diablo 2 is an example of an extremely simplified version of this. Anarchy Online is an example of a complex version. For more information, I'd suggest starting HERE.

I have been told that crafted gear will be strong enough to compete with or even surpass looted gear

  • Here is another question:

-Does race come into account in your ability to play with your friends? Do we all have to roll Stygians or Cimmerians or something? In other words, are there factions? I don't want to join the game with my friends and then find we are on opposite sides of a conflict and have barriers to communication and playing together.

    Thanks,

    Short answer, no

A number of RP guilds, such as the Hand of Set, are setting themselves up to only accept one particular race, but the only alliances and rivalries to be had are those made by players themselves. Members of all races will be quite able to play, fight and talk together.

    thanks again
Thus far, that has not been made clear. There is a limit to the number of Battlekeeps in any particular borderlands instance (3 to be precise). Now, for the sake of controll, there will definitely be some limitations on the location of the BKs. So that, for instance, guilds A and B who happen to be allied can't meld their defenses together to create one hell of a tough nut to crack, or so that B can't build right on top of the hill next to A (not allied this time). However, that can range from simply preventing BKs being to close to each other and certain other things( along with other restrictions like not building on the side of a cliff), to what I certainly hope doesn't happen, with truly preset locations with no options at all.

As for the question concerning instancing, again they have not specifically said. However, the number will definitely include several hundred players. Precisely how many will of course depend on AoC's ability to handle those numbers
