Cruel GMs?

Hey, I am kinda new here but I spotted that you had a forum for RO, so I figured I'd bounce this question by anyone that plays currently.  I used to play RO (back when it was beta and Pay to Play), and LOVED this game.  I eventually ran outta money and havent played since Nov of 2003.  I wanna get back into it, but I heard some rumors that there are people that will report any old person as a bot, and without any questions, you would be banned from RO just like that. No proof or anything. Now I loved this game, but I don't really wanna spend $12 or so a month just 2 weeks into it someone decides they dont like me, reports me to the GM, and they ban me without any kind of proof.  If anyone can tell me what's going on in iRO these days, I'd appricate it.  Thanks in advance.

That's a tough call there.  Unfortunately, the game is filled with BOT programs run by dozens of unsavory players now.  The most common traits these BOTs have in common that piss off actual players are the rampant KSing (Kill Stealing) BOTs.  Some people are smart enough to program their BOTs so they don't KS, but there are those few that disregard it, thinking nothing will come of it.  I usually try to send people a private message first, asking what their deal is.  If they continue, and they fail to respond, I assume it's another BOT.  Especially with the way they move in predetermined increments.  They are usually so obvious!  I can sit in Prontera City looking for items on Merchants, and see people discussing out loud in public chat just how long it takes to obtain a certain level in hours by using a BOT.  It's really sad.  I'd hate to know people were abusing the GM system by accusing people they don't like as being BOTs, but I'd think that the GM would try to verify it by sending a private message first.  It would be bad business to do otherwise.image

One thing I will add though, despite the overabundance of BOTs, the community in this game can get downright trashy.  There are a slew of scammers, cheaters, and thieves who try to bilk you at every turn.  One "Blacksmith" claimed he could upgrade my items, and after a small conversation, I was convinced he could help me.  He had a decent level and nice stats to work with, but when I handed my items over, he claimed he didn't get them.  Later on, he tried selling some of my items to another player, not knowing I had parked my Merchant near him to watch his every move.  When I reported this incident to the iRO website, which specifically prohibits this sort of behavior (or so their rules say) I received an auto-response "form letter" that regurgitated some key words out of my filed complaint, and said that Gravity INC. could not be held responsible for my incident, and there was nothing they could do.  So, take that whatever way you see fit.  Either the GMs were cruel, or they are far too lenient on scammers and the like.  When I logged back on, the "Blacksmith" and his friends were chatting out loud about how nothing would be done.  This is the mentality of the iRO community, so perhaps it's not the GMs you should be worried about...image

Never there are cruel masters of the game, right terrible players. You probably deceive and harass to good people in committing acts unspeakable against both you and the small children. Perhaps if you matured yourself and really made a person of the substance, its total position in life, as well as bad games, would increase to something on mud subatomic. If we were in my native Cuba, they would throw for his insolence to him. Thank for its lucky stars that you are in a filled country of the laws that protect the stupid one atrociously.

The GMs need undeniable proof before the ban someone for botting, because the GMs are too lazy to check themselves, and they don't want to slip up and ban someone who wasnt botting.

That's what I HOPPED would happen, but I heard rumors that they just wouldn't check (maybe as you said it would to be too much work), and would just take the word of whoever sent the report in and ban the person, guilty or not.  If this isn't the case, then I would definately come back to iRO.

I used to be a level 84 knight, I got reported for being a bot a couple times from hasty claimers. Gravity checks first to see if there is absolute proof that a person is botting. If this proof can be left for questioning, then they usually ignore it. There is a slim chance they actually do check these reports. If they check the report and it turned out to not be a bot, then the reporter gets banned for 5 days for a false report. Otherwise the person botting gets thier entire account wiped. Gravity has a set of actions to determine the validity of a botter, this includes the circumstance that a person is AFK. And if the proof given can be without a doubt prove someone is a bot, then the botters account gets entirely wiped. It's very rare gravity ever bans someone for botting that isnt a bot. It happens with some of ther crappier GMs, but the majority of them got fired last year. And as usually the case, the account is restored.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear.  I was hoping that was the case :)  Just out of curiosity, what happened to your level 84 Knight Cleffy?  Thanks again.  I think I'll do my best to get back into the world of iRO.

I'm new to RO. Have just created a account but not a character yet.

Been reading about this BOt thing. As I am not very good in computing, can someone please explain to me what is this BOt thingy? Also, the discussion makes it sound kind of worrying, especially when I am new. If you can, would appreciate if you can share some tips on minimising getting tangled with this BOT thingy.

    Thank you.
