Why does mmorpg.com say 2007 release?

kaldierkaldier Member Posts: 75

I was just wandering why it says on the front page of mmorpg.com that Heroe's Journey is an upcoming title with an estimated 2007 release. I am certainly looking forward to this game, but is there really any chance that it will be released in 07? I highly doubt it.

I doubt it will release in 2007 as well.  As for the release date , just about everyone of these games has had or will change their release dates one or more times.

If its not in beta by now, its not going to be released anytime in 07 lol

I don't think they change the dates until there is an announcement from the company and Simutronics has barely talked about HJ in the last few months much less talked dates.

It's really not fair. It keeps HJ on the front page of this website as a game expected in 2007 ahead of games that are actually getting released in 2007.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

Is it an advertising area? Meaning does the company pay MMORPG.COM a fee to keep their name there?

If this is not e case, then it damages MMORPG.COM as a reliable source of information.

I can only surmise that it is a low cost form of advertising to keep ones name on the front page for a limited time (end of 2007).

In Dec or Jan, HJ was mentioned in PCGamer with a 07 launch window.

The game was also listed at different times in different years as launching then. I remember at the 04 E3 they officially anounced an 05 launch...then it slid to 06, then it slipped off of the radar for a long time then resurfaced at the beginning of this year with a few small articles in the industry and a vague 07 launch reference..........see where this is going? I think they "leak" out a launch year every now and again so everyone doesn't forget about them. There is no doubt in my mind the game is on the back burner and unlikely to release anytime within 08 as well if at all. There is no beta timeframe, no beta info no anything.....its not even at that point yet.

    EDIT

It could also have to do with the fact they have it plastered on the front page of the web site. They must not be planning a very long beta cycle. Its amazing the website hasn't changed in 2 years and people still think this game is going to release.

    What is HJ?

Hero's Journey is the new 3-D Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game by the original masters of the genre, Simutronics Corporation. Currently in production with a scheduled 2007 release, Hero's Journey promises fun, fast-paced action combined with immersive environments and gameplay.

I've posted this before, but here's just a nice sample of what Simu does with timetables. This is a new character creation for Gemstone. Gotta love their attention to detail and ability to keep on schedule.

I doubt this will come out in 07. I wish they would start updating more though.

Thats what it says on their website so I guess MMORPG.com have to go with that release date until they devs say otherwise.

By that principle, HJ could say on their website that the game released in 2006 and 10 million people are playing it, and , lemming like, that is what mmorpg.com would have to reflect.

Hj is getting a front page listing here they do not deserve simply by lieing. I have to believe at some point mmorph.com will put a stop to that.

Seems to be a trend with MMOs these days that they have an early release date that they postpone over and over so they drum up some early interest. Gets kinda annoying if you're actually expecting the game to be released when they say and in actuallity it gets released 2 years later.

You have to wonder about a game company that cant produce a beta after 8 years (its been worked on since 1999.)

At the 2006 Simucon they had nothing but screenshots of empty areas (no mobs, npc's or pc's) and thought we would be impressed by the graphics.

HJ is vaporware and the "free advertisements" on sites like MMORPG is only to drum up interest for the game engine which they can sell to people who will actually make a game.

  • SheistaSheista Member UncommonPosts: 1,203

It is also known that they scrapped the original project and spent quite a while creating the HeroEngine.  With as many people as they recently hired in their content writing department (recently as in the past couple months), I have no doubts that they are working very diligently on the game.

I haven't heard anything from this game for months

I remember when they first announced it way back when...there was a hero's journey vault to it looked like a diablo/uo ripoff

Ding ding ding. Exactly. And having this army of HJ "volunteers" make up story and content they can use in their crappy MUDs. Pretty good little deal they have going there.

Actually GS and DR (and the others) each have their own GMs, and the HJ lore is different, so the content wouldn't fit.

Wouldn't need content writers for GS anyway; It's lore is fairly full and you don't need quests since GS doesn't have them in the sense of the typical MMO.

I am so looking forward to this game and been following it for awhile now.   Sadly, I'm starting to loose hope :(    No new updates or news in a while now, even on official site.

But as stated previously in this thread, being Oct. 07 now, no new news, or BETA so far (much less an expected start for BETA) , chances of a '07 release is doubtful to say the least.

Hopefully we will hear something new soon, because this does sound like a great game .....  or maybe i missed something somewhere :P

Dunno, I've been watching this game and waiting for it, but I don't think I've ever seen a company sell their game engine before they even put their own game out. Makes it seem more like the game was just hype to sell the engine.

We will see though. Simu puts out good stuff, but most of their crew is part time and volunteer...so it takes them forever to do anything. If they are still working on it, my personal guess is late 08 but more likely 09. If its not out by fall 09 I don't think it will ever come out.

I am sure their volunteers are working as diligently as possible when they arent working at their real job, spending time with family/friends, or sleeping.

The fact is they did not even make a crappy game with the first engine they had and at least gain some recognition instead of moving onto a new game engine. Other companies have already launched their second generation MMO's like Everquest 2, Lineage 2, etc.

In 1999, HJ sounded awesome. In 2004, HJ sounded pretty good. By the time HJ comes out, there will be better games (also f2p)  with better technology and have real, paid employees developing new/patched content in a timely manner. The only thing that will be missing is all the "simu soon" jokes.

I personally think it is unlikely that there will be better free to play games available before HJ comes out. Just because the game hasn't released, and probably won't in the near future, does not mean that free to play games are miraculously going to be able to produce a better engine than the Hero Engine - keep in mind that this engine is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Knowing this, I'm not sure exactly which company, based on a free to play business model, you think is going to overtake their technology (especially when that is what a lot of their paid staff do spend their time updating), but each to their own, I guess...

    D.

We are still working on it.  Money, as they say, does not grow on trees.  It takes a lot of money to produce titles like this.  It also takes time and manpower.

There's no convincing some people.... But Hero's Journey has never been and will never be a gimmick to sell the HeroEngine.  In showing people Hero's Journey, they were mutually interested in the toolset.  Sometimes opportunity presents itself at unusual times.  Things aren't always the way they seem.

Try to trust me on that.  HJ will see the light of day.
