honestly i don't see what's all that bad about it. sure, i'll take a seamless world over one with zones but the zones in eq2 are quite large from what i hear so it really doesn't take a whole lot from the experience.
I read an interview with an SOE official not long ago and he stated that there is currently no EQ3 in the works. They are concentrating more on the titles they have and adding MMOS based on completely different settings to their Portfolio of games (like The Agency, the DC Comics MMO).
That does not mean that there will never be an EQ3 but there won't be one in the next few years.
If they make a "EQ3" it wont be called that. They almost immediately regretted calling it EQ2, had to keep dealing with people expecting/assuming it was just some massive graphic upgrade to EQ1, among other things. Not to say they didn't want to make a MMOG based on the same type of lore and places though, just the title of the game was regrettable.
*blinks* No, this is an old game now so tell me why they would revamp the entire game? Zoning is still there and likely will continue until its shut down or EQ3 comes out.
Zoning is still there and probably always will be.
It does serve a purpose to my mind, however. It keeps some people from joining the EQ2 community who would probably be much happier in places like WOW.
The zones in the original world is the same. We may see some work on some zones (like cities), but I really doubt it.
On the other hand, the new zones in EoF and the upcoming expansion RoK, the zones are larger. Not sure yet, but most of RoK zones are pretty much seamless (except dungeons and instances). Maybe the old world has more zoning, but they have "learned" and release new content that with less zone loadings.
if you want a zoneless or near zoneless world that is very eq like you might want to check out VG but I'd caution you the VG is still in development even if they do charge to play. It is really spiritually eq3 but still needs more content, polish and delousing...
However it is a solid basis and has a good overall design. IMO
Now I just wish soe accounting would come up so I can reactivate my eq2 account and put vg on the back burner for a few months
Well the older cities like Freeport and Qeynos still has a ton of zoning (cause the city is soo freaking huge), the new cities like Kelethin no longer have zoning as everything is in one zone. Most of the world still have zoning but if you have a relatively fast computer it takes only a few seconds to zone (mine takes no more than 5 seconds).

no, and it never will happen on eq2. probably eq3, whenever that is.
Oh well, thanx for saving me hours of downloading. We'll see you in EQ3, if im not dead yet.
