Is This What I'm Looking For?

LungDungLungDung Member Posts: 3

I've been looking for a sci-fi mmo for a long time.

But honestly I'm not sure this game is for me.

I like my MMO's to have an inherent conflict to drive the PVP.  WoW has random world encounters with enemy players.  EVE has (laggy) space battles and if you flew force recon Das Boot player hunting.  As a Goon someone was always trying to ruin my day, and I was busy ruining theirs.

TR looks like a PVE grind from start to finish.  A good world PVP system creates content.

No players sneaking up behind you and shanking you in the back.  No battleships locking you down and spoiling your fun.    You will never be able to solo kill an entire party of enemy players.  You will never be able to assassinate the healers of a 40 man raid.  You will never be able to destroy a freighter containing billions of tech2 modules.

This game is all consensual death match style play, with no risk, and worse:  ABSOLUTELY NO REWARD.

I don't think the PVE is amazing enough to keep the spark alive where the PVP fails.

Garrot mentioned whack-a-mole style play in current MMOs but really hasn't done anything to resolve the issue.  Instead of auto attacking mobs players get to rapidly click their mouse while standing still.  Did they honestly see how twitchy games beyond Ultima are?

I'll probably check it out anyway, and maybe play along till they get their heads straight.  I hope this doesn't become more plaync shovelware, as the concept is fantastic.

Never have I seen the chance to do so much, wasted on so little.

Too bad they didn't:

-Make player created bases / outposts

-Make skills/abilities CRITICAL to player survival, instead of left mouse mashing.

-Make PVP more prevalent

-Make bane playable

I have been a huge scifi-game fan for a long time and kinda been always hoping a game like this would be created some day. Now that I've been playing the beta for few weeks I have to say the game is just "ok". The concept of the game is great and a war against alien race is just plain cool and yeah, very original. :)Oh yeah, and finally we got rid of the elves and dwarfs.

Now that I have two lvl 20 characters I feel like the fire has already burned out and I dont get the urge to log in game anymore. There are lots of great people there, still I kept traveling alone most of the time. After sometime I even stopped looking for group since the game was just so easy - and following the ingame chat was annoying when people kept chatting there with literally every language on EU area.  And in some countries they make keyboards which have CAPS always on. (just a random whine)

In Tabula Rasa you are in the middle of war, but still you are "safe". The Bane are underpowered pussies, you have no serious threat of some other player stalking you, the instances are pretty much soloable up to lvl 20 (as for now at least). Oh, and leveling up just isn't that important in this game. So what, you get few ability points and no new skills. I get the feeling there is no real progress after selecting the branch of your military career. Every now and then you reach some level milestone and can equip a new gun which looks just like the old one, just has some more damage and different boosts.

I was so thrilled when watching the gameplay movies over and over again while installing the game. I so much wanted to like this game and hoped there would be more. I like the graphics, I like the tons of different armors and ability to customize your characters look. (paint armor, almost every color but black, the ultimatum coolest color.)

There is so much good in this game. In some points you actually get the feeling that "Oh sh*t this is war!!". Bullets and beams fly in air, AFS and Bane keeps dropping more soldiers to battlefield and mortars keep hammering the ground. You take cover behind sandbags and launch crabmines and wait for them to blast your enemies while you reload armor. (Though the enemy has some really annoying special skill to shoot you through obstacles  so pretty often taking cover just isn't enough.) And the gadgets, healing discs, armor repairers are cool. Just wish there would be more tech-stuff.

My plan is to wait what happens to the game, see if they add Bane as playable race or something. (Would bring so much more content into game as the guy above already mentioned.) All I can do now is to roll thumbs and count days to L4D release. It's obvious TR wasn't my game after all.

Oh and these are all my personal opinions, if someone likes the game a lot, don't take it personally and start flaming.

People who are rapidly clicking their mouse have no idea how to play the game.

Standing still - you can do that - but if you are going to you might as well crouch to get the improved hit chance. Otherwise move around to find cover to reduce damage.

    Make PVP more prevalent

If you are in PvP clan you can be attacked by anyone in another PvP clan.

If you are in a PvE clan you cant be attacked by griefers/gankers. You can be challenged to a duel.

There are actually (according to polls) more people who enjoy PvE only over PvP.  Fact, not fiction.

I can understand those who like MMOs that are heavier on PvP and again those who don't.  It's all about personal choice.

Maybe TR isn't the game for you, maybe it is.  If they would add a more robust PvP system to TR, I'd be happy since it does require a bit more skill than mashing a button or out-dps'ing someone.

Comming in a few patches as well as Clan 'buffs' which you have to 'bet' to obtain newer ones (risk and reward there for you)

Actally if you go into the instances as a group the instance stales by adding more bane in there plus makes them a tad harder plus the possibility of better loot so as it stands the skill ARE required to either help keep others going or buff the ones that are squishy, the way I see it the skills aren't there to support you but everyone else in the group

    -Make PVP more prevalent

    -Make bane playable

Seeing as if you read your quests AND the main point of the game, the Bane control 99% of the universe and the humans and a handful of rances are fighting over the last 1% (so we are basically fucked) if the Bane where playable then to fit with that bit of the lore the Bane would already control 99% of the content in the game and would have to wait until the AFS get to them... HOWEVER more 'surviving' races will be opening up soon whos to say they will even LIKE the AFS..

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

Here's the most objective review of the game I have seen on these boards.

Beyond that? All up to you. I know I am looking forward to tomorrow myself!
