Now how can this be logical? There are people who got told that they will be invited (when it starts) into the beta waiting since december of 2006 for the invites. Do they invite us one week before the open beta? I do not know. Comment Please !
Well, depending on what you've read, and you claim to be interested in the game and well versed on it, so I'd assume that you know that the game was in Technical Beta, NOT General Beta for quite awhile. Technical Beta has nothing to do with the contest winners, people are usually chosen more for spec on their system than anything. Of course, I'm not telling you anything you dont already know.
To continue to review existing info, Funcom had contests in several places, and promised winners beta slots. Did you for some reason believe that Funcom would instantly give you a slot based on winning a contest as soon as General Beta kicked off? Can you point out where in those e-mails Funcom said something that would give you that impression?
Anyhow, you'll see people picked more on spec and so on early in general, I'd imagine (that's just my guess) but as they need to widen the beta and spec is less important, you'll see waves of invites start to go out. At sometime during that phase (you know, during the next five months) I'd wager that Funcom will invite any and all contest winners.
If you are confused, just start by looking at that e-mail, and pointing out exactly where it says that you will be invited at "X-stage of beta, and will have Y-amount of testing time." If you are really all that educated in MMO's, I'm just curious where your impression of the beta process came from, and how/when contest winners got their entry, because frankly, I think you arent quite as well educated as you think you are! No, that's not a criticism or a personal attack, just a comment.

Hi there, i had been following AoC quite a long time now since im well educated in mmorpgs and AoC sounded very promising. In december of 2006 there was a great contest with about 250 prizes. The grand prize was an PC and funcom gave out 20 AoC boxes. Here is the description of the prize: (20) Age of Conan Packages. Includes beta test access (when it starts), game at launch, an inflating sword and a signed (by devs) Conan Comic! Well i signed myself in for this contest and the day it end i had a strange dream but i can't remember it anymore but i think it had something to do with the contest. When i wanted to look up the winners of the contest i first only had been looking for the bigger prizes but after i realized that i got a private massage in my inbox. YOU HAVE BEEN ISSUED A WINNING TICKET!, i couldn't believe ist but it was for one of the AoC packages. Since then i started to look even more intense after new information about AoC's beta programm and the game itself but this is about 10 month ago now. About 2 month later i got an letter from Funcom with the inflateable sword and with a hand signed age of conan comic. After the start of technical beta i wondered why i did not get an invitation but one of the developers told me that they can't take the contest winners into the beta because they need people with specific computer setups for the technical beta. This was in April 07 if i remember correct. I was quite satisfied with this answer and could understand them that i maybe would be useless in some kind of technical testing since i had a very fast pc at this time wich should not make any problems anyway. But later on the general beta kicked off and then i started to worry and i already asked some of the developer known out of the official forum but the answers had been like: ,, I can't tell'' ,,soon'' ,, your spot is save but the time is not there yet'' nothing very specific. In one PM a developer told me that the contest winner basically are in the same line or in the same status as the ''Beta for Veteran'' people even if they got picked way later than the others. I spoke with alot members of the mmorpg.com forum wich also had won this prize none of them can actually participate at the beta wich is funny since the general beta already started quite a time ago. Now how can this be logical? There are people who got told that they will be invited (when it starts) into the beta waiting since december of 2006 for the invites. Contest Winners doesn't not equal enterance to tech beta.
General Beta is only just starting it did NOT start along time ago. Because of the announced delay in August the tech beta was still on going. Not all Veterans have been invited to Beta yet either.
Not sure if you read the friday update the other week:
"At the same time we are now deploying a large amount of additional machines to our main server structures. This means that we are getting ready for larger-scale Beta deployment! We now have the hardware, the set-up (and an awesome game;) ready for larger scale testing! As a result of this we are also getting ready to start inviting thousands and thousands (and thousands) into our Beta programs. As we progress with this new stage of the Beta we expect to get lots of constructive feedback on the general gameplay, and we hope that the testers will also love this iteration of the new combat system. This testing will in turn lead to adding tens and tens of thousands of testers as we move over to the new year. This is surely great news, and for you in the community it means that we are escalating our invitation process. For those of you we have defined as “veterans” (which have not gotten a Beta invite yet), we are looking to send an invitation within the next few weeks. As we have stated before it is a goal for us to give you, our loyal followers, Beta advantage as we move into larger scale testing, but we can’t promise everyone access. It is still a matter of focused testing, not “open beta”.
As a part of this we would like to state that it is not a goal to move beyond several thousands of Beta testers at the stage we are now moving into. The needs of the game and our development team will, and must have, first priority. This means that we are not looking into any form of “open” Beta activities before next year. The Beta for Age of Conan will almost all the way up to launch be defined by development needs, but we have also planned a few surprises along the way "
I would expect your invite soon, before end of year, before Open Beta starts.

His/her confusion is understandable. They asked a question politely and asked for comment.
Your post (end paragraph especially) Baikal, is rude and unnecessary.
What you initiated was a personal attack, regardless of how much you deny it. You're a troll or just get off insulting people anonymously.

So be it.

Just finding it incredibly hard to believe that someone who has asked the question, been answered by dev's via PM, and also claims to be well educated and knowledgeable about MMO's would present this as a question. He had the answer given to him. What's all that confusing about it? I mean, if it was someone who was not educated and informed about either the game or the MMO genre, sure I could see that, but to someone who knows about the game and the genre? Ummmmm...yeah....okay....
I'll make note of your opinion and file in it the "I care" bin. Thanks though!
Winning something and feeling fobbed off by the answers you get from the Devs and then asking in a public forum doesn't imply any lack of knowledge on the subject.
I know several people that have gotten into the technical beta and they have all sorts of specs. I too would have been pissed off if i won a beta entry and still wasn't in by this stage. There is a general beta running.
You need to look into it, read over the contest info again and see if there is anyway to can twist their arm over it... or at least tell you how much beta time you can expect to receive.
As mentioned however, they are full of bs and negative comments from the minority will just be ignored. I can't believe they have all the AoC forum guys believing "veterans" are going to get priority for beta places LOL. No, they will not.
I started with some friend i knew from UT we where about 12 people but some went to horde. As i got lv60 i joined a raid guild with some of my friend and had 97% raid attendance over 2 years. in September 2006 i had full T2.5 and AQ equip with about 180 days played on my rogue and my warrior twink had about 50 days played. I sold my account for 420€ but started to play again. Now i got a lv70 Paladin with full arena season 2 set and a warrior with full epic gear.
In the time when i did not play WoW i played Cabal Online where i had been the first max lv char on all servers in the open beta (the chars did not get wiped after release) This game was really funny but after lv100 i just changed into a grind game and i gave my items to my guild mates but the account is still open since it got f2p a few month ago."
Im sorry, how in gods name do you find the time to do all this?
Originally posted by Thomson1 edit: yes baikal is expected to get an ''early'' invite because of 2 things 1) the contest itself says : beta acces (when it starts) (http://www.mmorpg.com/contests/mega_holiday_promo.cfm) 2) a comment from lordorion written May 1st, 2007, 11:49:01 ,, I'm glad you won! We will notify you when you can log in, but that won't be until the General beta starts. [...] But hang in there, your time will come soon! '' and no i did not expect to get into technical beta nor wanted to play the technical beta.
Um, both of your facts simply state that you won't get into beta until the general beta (or beta) starts.
In the end, all this means is that if you have the ability to log into the general beta for 1 second before they take those servers down for the last time before game launch, their promise has been fulfilled, in the letter if not the spirit. I am willing to wager almost anything that not a single thing FC or FC reps ever told you stated or directly implied that you would be among the first in beta, or even necessarily in it during the beginning stages.

I agree with Aelfinn. Stop the complaining and be thankful you won. It is November. I honestly don't see any more invites going out on this game or any other game until after the first of the year. The last two months of the year are good for open beta/launching of games, not beta testing invites. There have been many people on the AoC forums that have been following the game for years and contributing constructively that are not in yet. Just because you are not in yet doesn't mean you won't get in. Hang in there.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Grammar nazi's. This one is for you.
Developers want your money not your lip.
Stop being a game fan and just give them your cc#. You may be allowed to play later.
Unfortunately (for you), good PR and publicity generated by the contest is way bigger than any bad PR that 20 of you can create.
