Admitedly I have an old graphics card: Nvidia 6800Xt, but I have 2 gigs of ram, and dual pentium 4 3.06GHz processers. I'm not hating on the game, but I can understand why most people find the game not only difficult to run, but boreing as the lack of other people really makes it tough to find a group.

You are right in say "admitedly I have an old graphics card."  You can upgrade that to a card that will handle the game just fine for as little as $100.  Spend $200 and you will have a video card that can play the game flawlessly.

Sorry, but sometimes upgrades are necessary to have what you want.

By the way, I just wanted to point out that this is yet another post on here by someone who "claims to have resubscribed and then unsubscribed immidiately" but yet only posted on these forums instead of the official Vanguard forums where he/she COULD HAVE posted if he/she had ACTUALLY subscribed (you get 30 days on the forums even if you unsubscribe).

But what would be the point? The OP has already experienced the VG community, and that pretty much sums it up... they are hardcore EQers who love the vision and their little club only, they want VG for their own personal sandbox and so are unconcerned with being nice to noobs to help "the game" in general and the community specifically by getting new blood...

And posting his specs would have been pointless... I can diagnose his problem right now:

    You don't have 3 gigs of RAM/ a better proc/vidcard, VIOLA!

I haven't looked at the log on pops lately for the other servers.  However, I play on Seradon and it is well populated.... maybe even over-populated right now.  On one hand, it's great to see a vibrant and healthy server after the merge.  On the other hand, prime time is crowded and it can be difficult to find a 'target' or dungeon that isn't swamped.  But this is at level 50.... I think there should be plenty of low to mid level content to go around.

Where the OP want to post his views is a matter of his preference.  What rule has he violated?  Is MMORPG an inferior discussion board?

He COULD HAVE posted on VG board.  He also COULD HAVE posted here.  What difference does that make, in terms of credibility?  Do you know as a fact that he ACTUALLY subscribed? or not?  Bold words are not proves, they are shouts, and they are not necessary here in my humble opinion.

Ahh I unfortunately disagree.  There are nice members of the community but also from the moment of release there were the loud obnoxious members who greeted even the slightest criticism or questioning why things worked in a certain way with shouts of go back to WOW  you kiddie.

The community has not been this games biggest selling point.

Im wasiting my time posting this because there will always be people out there that cant understand something.  There are things you must accecpt in the computer gaming world. (1) In order to keep running games a max you must upgrade your system. (2) It is not unreasonable to have to upgrade your system. (3) Just because you have a crappy system that cant run a game, does not make the game crappy.

Games have to improve in graphic, so games make bigger leaps then others. Vanguard is one of thoes games.  Ive seen some truely amazing sites in this game.  Yes I spent alot of money to see them on max quality.  But on the other hand my wife has a 2 year old computer (1 gig ram, 9800 pro agp, 2.? gig processer) and she has to set it to high proformance, but thats ok with here because it runs fine and she dont care all that much about graphics, where as I do.  Its not fair to say I think this game is crap because I refuse to run it on lower setting. Thats about as fair as me saying I think your crap for not going out and buying a new computer.  Which I wouldnt do.

The thing I hate most about the internet is that you cant see the people posting,  I would so like to know this guy to understand the logic behind his thinking. Is he a child that jjust dont have the mind set to understand how stupid he sounds, or is he a troll that want to bash a game just cause soe has something to do with it.  Or so old Guy that knows nothing about computer and still cant figure out why hsi picture is fuzzy when hes checking out low quality adult web cams...

Your intitled to your opinion, but its not worth anything when its stupid. Thats like saying  mc d's sucks cause a combo cost $5.00 and you only have 4.

This would be an insightful post if VG had ever ran decent on the "required specs" they stated. Before you get your panties in a bunch, let me say that I don't think that VG is a bad game. It's a good game, with great graphics. But it has never ran good with the specs they say are required.

To use a food analogy, it would be like Mc D's saying the combo is $4, but they actually charge 5.

Have to say.. wonder if it something other than just your system not being able to handle VG.  Because I play both VG and EQ2 and VG runs much better on my system (7900 gt... 1.5gb ram.. a decent computer) than EQ2 (if i make eq2 actualy look good).  And that is with balanced type graphics and view distance/trees and grass turned way up and imo the game looks good at that state.  Although I will say for alot of people that are questioning if there ocmputer can run it.. if you can't find someone who has a very similar setup that you trust.. maybe just wait for the free trial.

Because the game really has come a long ways... and with a free trial you arent going to lose anything and if its the game you're looking for and it runs.. could be a good find.

I dunno, I know how much the game has improved since launch because it is all I play right now.  I've seen the improvments first hand.   As for the OP...he contradicts much of what he says.  He states playing the game at the lwoest settings and then talks about playing the game at higher settings.

  • VhayneVhayne Member UncommonPosts: 632

Yes, the performance has increased 10x, as well as stability.

But come on people.  Vanguard still requires a decent PC to run it smoothly at max settings.  Now, if you want to turn the graphics down, you can get a playable framerate on a lower end machine (my nephew is playing on an AMD xp 2400, 1gb ram, geforce 6800gt, and he's having a ball.  He had to turn the graphics down quite a bit, but he says it still looks great.  After this last patch, he said he was able to max out the view distance, and still run decently.

Basically, if you don't have specs better than my nephew's PC, then you don't have any business playing PC games right now anyway.   Much less trying to play the toughest game on the market (Vanguard).

To the OP -- You need to pose your system specs if you're going to complain about performance.  Otherwise, your issues are irrelevant.

People receive what they give. Some person gets on a chat channel and is discourteous and rude, guess what sort of reaction they get...  So far my experience with the community on Halgar has been very good, everyone has been very helpful to a new player, answering questions patiently. One kind person just came up and gave me some starter items.

So far I'm having fun trying out a few different classes I like, druids are really fun, seem more powerful than EQ so far.  I love the fact that you get a horse at lv 10 and its free if you do diplomacy !!

    Peace,
