the day after soe killed our beloved swg , my entire guild relocated to Azeroth. we chose WoW mainly because we wanted to stay together and that seemed like the "safe" place to go to achieve that.
it was ok for awhile , but soon enough i realized that the things that got me hooked on mmo's were nowhere to be found . wow is tightly structured and can be played ONE way , level up so you can go here so you can get better gear so that you can then go here and get slightly better gear wich helps you get to the next place ........ etc etc etc infinity and beyond..,. and pvp is exactly the same kill kill kill so you can get that helm that gives you 3 more stamina etc etc
THAT IS NOT AN MMO its diablo 3 with instances.
in swg they gave us a gameworld and basically let us run with it. THE PLAYERS created much of the content, WE built the citys and the bases and the guild halls and houses and we had to defend them. the pvp was awesome because THERE WAS ACTUALLY SOMETHING TO FIGHT FOR . the crafting system was intricate . anybody could be a crafter but it was hard and took alot of effort if you wanted to be a GOOD crafter. it wasnt just a profession tacked on after the game was made because "mmo's have crafting".
obviously swg wasnt perfect . it was diffrent for everyone . it was what we made it.
were done with WoW . where should we go?

If your anything like some of the pre-cu SWG veterans I know are, i would suggest a therapist. Failing that EVE.
Consider playing EVE....(but doubtful your entire guild could make the transition, EVE isn't for everyone) or continue to hope Darkfall gets released one day.......

awhile back i gave Earth & Beyond (i think that was the name) a try. great looking game but nearly impossible for noobs to integrate into the established community . there wasnt really anything to gain by helping people out. so nobody did lol. so i just flew around solo for a couple months then bailed.
so whenever i thought about giving EvE a try , i got E & B flashbacks and avoided it . lol dont even know if there anything like each other. must be the space thing o_o
lol maybe i do need a shrink, i was gonna wait a few more years and let the hate and bitterness fester deep inside my soul though :P
thanks for suggestion though

Hey Strong,
Well you aren't alone let me say that first and foremost. Many of us haven't found our home since our Galaxy screamed out all at once and was silenced in the next second. I have roamed from MMO to MMO trying to find a place I could call my home. I am now waiting for Perfect World to start open beta. This game has the best character customization I've seen yet, it surpass Star War Galaxies and I always felt they had the most customization choices then any other MMO out there. I only played Perfect World for 5 days before it shut down the closed beta to prepare for the next step. However what I saw in those 5 days got me excited for the first time in many many months. The community is friendly, crafting is not an after thought. The graphics are pretty. There are pets for combat, pets for just pets, and mounts you can ride, fly etc. Housing is not there yet, but it will be as the Malaysian server has housing implimented so it's just a matter of time. Maybe this would be an option for you too. You can read up on Perfect World under the game list on this site. Just follow the links to the offical page for more information.
I wish you the best of luck. I too couldn't find my niche and I have roamed from Azeroth to Eve, to Breeland in Lord of The rings, to ryzom, etc etc, I have yet to find everything that we lost when the NGE hit. I do admit though I am back in Star Wars Galaxies for the time being. However I would'nt recomment it to anyone, not without writing out all the negatives, and that would take to long. The only reason I'm even back in SWG for now is because a group of us went back, otherwise it would be totally dead.
Oh, another plus about Perfect World..it's FREE!
When did you last return to SWG? Alot of changes have been made since the NGE, many of which have returned old features (and improved on them) that were originally removed with the NGE. SWG still has the indepth crafting system, player housing, player cities, player designed content, and freedom to play how you like. At this point, the maint hing missing from SWG now that was present in the past is the skill system - although each profession has Expertise points to allow you to specialise your character to the way you like to play.
You likely have a free Vet trial waiting for you to let you login on your old character and see if the game has progress to a point where you can enjoy playing it again. Pretty easy to activate, just login to the Launchpad and if it lets you in, you've activated your 21 day vet trial. If not, it'll ask you to activate - if that's not something you want to do then there's a 14 day trial available at www.tryswg.com but you'll need to make a whole new character.
everything that i spent 2+ years busting my ass to achieve . the months of sometimes tedious drudgery it took to become one of the most respected crafters on the server. the items that i was able to obtain. the things that i enjoyed spending my game time doing.
ALL OF THAT WAS TURNED TO SHIT IN 1 DAY.
sadly going back has never been an option.there was nothing left to go back to.
and thats not a slam on what swg is now, i have heard alot of postive things lately, and im glad that it seems to be going strong again. but going back would just be starting at the beginning in a game i already achieved quite a bit. and had it takin from me
