More Addictive???

I Walked Into My Local Game Store and saw an advertisement poster on the wall...

Hellgate: London is going to be more addictive than WoW!!

So i walked over to the PC Game area and picked up the game package, Read It And Smiled. When you first start WoW for the first time, Yes it is Amazingly Addictive!

But This Game Just looks Beyond WoW. And Has a STORYLINE!!!

Imho the deafening silence following your question answers the OP quite succintly...

No one who started playing managed to tear himself away yet.

Started playing it yesterday around 6pm. Played it until 11, went to bed and then woke up around 4 and played it before work.

Yes it is addictive, yes it seems to have a pretty good story line and yes I played WoW for two years but I quit about 8 months ago.

I got into Hellgate US beta last minute. I'm from Europe, so I don't really understand how I ended up in the US beta at all. Anyway, my US beta works at the moment, but I can't get the game in EU until tomorrow. I'm running around on US server, but I'm kind of holding back until tomorrow, until I get my 'real' account.

That said...I never really intended to play HGL. Even forgot I signed up for beta ages ago. I'm glad I did get an invite last minute, or else I wouldn't even be aware of the game anymore. After playing around for a few days, and now 1 day in retail, I'm really liking it. And going to get the game tomorrow, and even subscribe.

To me, it's a fun dungeon crawl romp that I will probably play 'in between'. It's not awesome, but not bad either. Still waiting for 'my personal big game' to come out though, the one that will get my main attention.

Most memorable games for me: UO, GW1, LoTRO

In my opinion, it's not more addictive than WoW. In WoW, you had many things to strive for. To get the best set of gear after leveling tailoring to 375, trying to build rep, PvP, Battle Grounds, Raids, etc etc.

In the beta, it was just a linear storyline. No side quests that you would really even care about. Sure go to this area and kill 10 of these. Nothing that epic.

Who knows. It might be more addictive in a few months when more things are added, but atm, it's not.

hmm.. beside the "classic" item grind there are some alternative things to strive for in  HG:L...

    - different modes - finishing the game in nightmare and elite mode seem quite challenging.. and you could probably go insane trying to be the highest lvl "hardcore" character (I always kinda hoped they'd implement something similar in WoW - different levels of difficulty that is, not hardcore :) but tough luck...)

    - character achievements - very cool, this might give you something to do for ages

    - PvP? I suppose they'll introduce some kind of ranking/ladder system eventually - FSS seem very keen to enlarge the scope of HG:L gameplay as much as possible.

    - new modes of play in general - they already have an RTS level where you command a squad of NPCs against mobs... it is a very short step to make it PvP... which would enable players to  do online RTS  through  HG:L ..  crazy stuff. talk about value for money!

    - faction reputations - they featured in Demo.. we'll see how it'll work out.

ofc, it remains to be seen how well these things are to be implemented... From what I've seen so far (especially regarding itemization) the FSS folk know what they're doing.
