Hmmmm...would be hard to pull of since the plot revolves around immortals killing each other off permanently, as "there can be only one". It is an exciting prospect though, cause the highlander series is awesome.
I think a highlander setting could be fun. Imagine gaining experience points when you defeat another immortal via the quickening. Lots of different known npc's available, especially if you include book and the telivsion show material.
And what if you set it in past, present, and future as in different zones as you level and become more powerful, perhaps even locking the past zone when you move into the present?
could be an interesting MMO only problem maybe the lack of new and relevant highlander material in the last decade lol.
Who thinks highlander would make a good mmo, why and why not. And what timeline would be best for an mmo setting past, present or future?
Trouble with highlander is that its a 1 on 1 knock out game. Unless there are quests and activities prior to one finding another. Otherwise it feels like Streetfighter.
Also there is the mechanism of pairing the ones. Who decides on when and where and whom? Are there anything else apart from the PVP? Any items? Skill sets to choose from? If all characters are predefined its definitely like street fighters. If you pick Ken you have the entire parcel given to you.
How can the game be MMO there can only be 1 and there are only so many immortals to choose from. Or are we going to have multiple copies of the same immortal?
Highlander is a good story, but building a EQ type of MMO out of it sound a bit stretched. We might need a new model of MMO for this story.
That would be a great MMO. Since you there can only be one, they should setup servers where the game runs in 3-6 month rounds, until there is only 1 immortal left. Then the servers restart and you go for another round.
If you happen to die, players obviously won't be happy about having to wait 3-6 months to play again, so you setup secondary servers where there isn't any perm death. Sorta like Blizzards PvP and non-PvP servers, only here the whole point is to be the last immortal standing on the PvP server. For players who don't like that idea, they can just play on the non-perm death server.
It could be interesting if it had perma death, though mmos with pd would need completely different focus than normal mmos.
Plus, highlander is mostly 1v1. Granted you could make it a bit more group oriented (kind of like the latest highlander movie if you will) but then it might just be like other mmos Could still be fun of course, but not much of "highlander" other than the name.

I say YES to any MMORPG that has perma-death!
Lets be honest, a game based on that HAS to have some sort of perma-death coded in. If so, that may scare away a lot of players. Not me, however :P

Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
