Futuristic , demon killer , 1st or 3rd person , shoot'em type with quests. Little bit of crafting , can break down items and use to craft weps , armor and mod items. You can modify items ( like socketing) with a bunch of different types of dmg.
No it's not like diablo 2 i recomend you to stick with diablo 2. IMO Hellgate London sucks it is a huge disapointment for me. I don't know why but all these blizzard Ex employee developed games for me they all suck.

I'd wish when people post comments like this they would actually explain themselves. This is not ment as a flame but more like someone who's trying to get an idea what people thinks about the game.

Yeah, just saying a game sucks really doesn't say anything other than the poster didn't like it and is probably young. Be a little more descriptive. Why does it suck?
I don't think its like Diablo 2... i mean all dungeon based hack and slash loots fest are going to be the same in some ways but i think there is significant difference between them.
Just a lot more depth to out of dungeon gameplay and better graphics.
There is a demo available so maybe try it out?
Its a shame it doesn't have the Diablo storyline, but its still a fun game. I loved Diablo and Diablo 2 and i really like this Not Diablo 3, but definately worth a play.
In the skill system, the way loot is handled, and the dungeon hack-n-slash feel of it, it's like D2.
The skill tree is similiar, except for instead of 3 skill trees, you have 1 larger one. The loot is random drops with random modifiers, there being common items, uncommon items, rare items, extremely rare items, and unique items. Not called that ofcourse, but I can't remember the exact names off the top of my head.
Unlike D2, and all the better imo, is the fact that there are constant rare spawns, with unique drops to them, more like traditional MMO's, and rare drops off common mobs are a lot more common than they were in D2. You can 'run' a boss-mob multiple times for loot, but it's by no means required, seeing as how many people find good loot off of normal mobs, making every mob worth killing.
Also unlike D2, is the FPS Shooter aspect of it. It's not Auto Assault or Tabula Rasa's shooting system (which i've heard they improved..) where you point a reticule at an enemy and they become "targeted" like you do in normal MMOs, you actually have to aim, and even if you do, your projectile can still miss. It's very fast paced.
The classes definately have a lot of differences between them, with some classes sharing a few skills, but unlike tradition MMO's noone is really FORCED into a role. Everyone can and will kill, they just go about it differently.
I'de call it D3 personally, with a shooter aspect thrown into my Action RPGs. Which as someone who plays the nuking class, I love, even though if I miss too much, I die =D

An outstanding description.
I'd only add that I think it support sgroup play better and has more of an MMORPG feel to it. Classes do have some group oriented benifits and the fps perspectives and operation similar to most mmos makes it feel more like a group game then the old diablo more top down view.
But other then the changes in graphics, story, and names of skills and stuff it feels very much like what I'd expect for Diablo 3.
If i had to compare hgl to any other game out there, it would be diablo 2. However i liked diablo 2 much better. Hellgate London just didnt draw me in as much and think that is cause I like the fantasy period more than sci fi. I found myself looking at weapons and equipment that I was unable to tell what it was. Hell gate looks good and played pretty flawless for me. I had no issues with it at all. Im sure it will be a good game I just can't get myself to get hooked on it. I was happy to see a summoner class in it though...reminded me of the old necros running around with 20 skeletons......i love having an army of minons! If you liked the diablo series games then give it a shot.

Also by the creators of diablo 2.. I think could call this Diablo 3...
SNIP
It's exactly like Diablo 2, except that it's also significantly different.
