Lately I have been taking a little more interest in Vanguard, largely because people have been saying that most of the launch problems have been fixed and it now plays quite well.

I am a WOW player looking around at what else is on the market.

The problem I have with Vanguard is that currently there is no free trial. Despite the positive  things that have been said about it lately I'm not prepared to buy a game with such a chequered past without trialling it first!

I know that some kind of trial island is in the works but time isn't on their side. As a bored WOW playing I am eyeing up various upcoming titles such as Warhammer, AoC, PotBS, TR, as I'm sure thousands of other people are too.

Any one of these games has the potential to become  my new MMO of choice and so could Vanguard if it had a trial.... but it doesn't.

Vanguard has improved a lot since release but I still think it has a ways to go...  I'd wait till the trial island and probably till the relaunch to really think about moving to vanguard especially from a fairly polished game like wow.

I recommend waiting for the trial as well, unless you can find someone with a spare buddy key! The only reason I say that is because I'd hate to recommend the game and for you to spend money, only to find out it doesnt work well on your rig.

What are you specs for your computer? Mainly the CPU, Ram type, ram amount, and GPU - I can try to tell you what you can expect out of the game based on that.

I played VG for 10 months and quit only about a month ago. From accounts of my friends that still play, nearly all of the poor performance and crash issues have been fixed. If these were the only drawbacks that steered you away from VG, then you should give it a try. It will probably save you 30$ over any of the new releases coming out.

Wait for the relaunch..should be coming soon shouldn't it? VG blew arse when it came out, but it had nowhere to go but up, so it HAS to be better than it was. Just like EQ2 was a worthless steaming pile when it came out, but now its a much better game.

I'm guessing with the relaunch will come the invites to try it for free, plus they will hopefully have some decent content by then.

Yes I agree.  I just think that overall, unless your rig scores in the recommended area (progam in forum sticky post to test) the game is not worth playing because of lag and other performance issues.  They need to work more on the content as well.

I have a moderate system, nothing killer, but worked fine for WoW, EQ2, and older games I like to play. I am playing VG right now and have no complaints, but then I am a casual solo player, get home from work and want to play inbetween domestic interruptions or music practicing :)

I find the world beautiful, quests are fun, diplomacy is a refreshing change from the usual grind. I have no interest in the debates that rage here, but if you are like me, a quiet mostly solo player that is bored with the stuff you've been playing, then I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Now back to your regularly scheduled screaming and doom-saying slugfests :)
