"How do you play?" -or- Yet another survey about online gaming. (YASAOG)

Dear Gamers, 
in the Department Media Management at the University of Ilmenau / Germany we are dedicated in the scientific research of different types of online games. Especially we focus on browser-based games, client games (different MMORPGs, Second Life, Online Poker), other types of computer games and console games.
To do this research I am dependent on your help. Thus I would like to ask you to participate in my survey for my thesis. It takes only between 5 and 20 minutes of your time, depending on the types of games you use.
As compensation for your invested time, we raffle free coupons. In addition - and this should be more interesting than any coupon - we publicate our results for free after finishing all research to everyone who is interested in it.
Needless to say that all information you give is collected anonymously and will only be used for academic purposes. There is no commercial provider involved in our research.

I took your survey. I enjoyed the questions, somewhat, and appreciate your efforts. However, it is obvious you needed to do more research on your MMO listing; all of the heavy hitters are not even on there. Just as an example, World of Warcraft is not listed on your pull-down menu...they have over 9 million subscribers to their title - fairly huge, on any scale. I don't know how it and other very popular titles (mostly US-based, but global games) could have been missed, if you spent some ample time researching.

I know the "problem" with the listing. It is because I tried to list only games which are downloadable and at least in a basic version free usable. Thats the reason why there are no big "blockbusters" in the list, but many smaller projects. Anyway all participants are able to type in, that they are playing WoW or GW.

Took the survey (was waiting for my game to update...so nothing much better to do) and was impressed with the format. Non-leading questions made this survey seem viable to me. I wish you luck in getting results.

Holy crap that was a rather extensive survey.... i still got the clicking circles nervous tick.
Great survey, u migth want to consider that all game types can't be expressed by the same questions, questions were great for mmo's but as for webgames, not so much.

Took the survey, was confused why it was asking me about "casual browser games" if I only put I play it monthly. *Shrug* I guess the survey was mainly about browser games I guess.

I think this is the first good MMO/game-related survey I've taken. All the others let the intent of the bias of a hypothesis be evident in even their starting questions, and you could already see the results beforehand by just looking at where the inquiries were leading you.
Very good job there, mate. I hope you get some good results.
All I have to do is look at the list of games and see you are completely missing what is important in the genre. 2nd life is a joke, it has very little going for it beyond easy to play. It has so little content it is a nonentity in the industry.
If you are going to do reseach, at least get a working knowledge of the industry to start with. You evidently have done no research to start with and replying to your survey is a complete waste of everyone's time.
Next time don't bother posting on this forum unless you have at least done some initial research.

that is only your opinion. We spent a lot of time in researching for and constructing this survey. That you do not find some of the big player MMORPGs in the client game list has one simple reason. They are not client games to download in our definition (e.g. every MMORPG you buy on CD / DVD). Also we decided to list mostly free games. Even so you have the possibility to type the game you play in a free field. So every game is counted.
You did not know anything about our thoughts, so there is no problem, if you have a bad opinion about our survey. I am sure that the survey is mostly very interesting and results will help gamers to analyze their behavior, but it is not a waste of time.
So I thank you and all other participants for their support. Everyone of you is important for us!

I just watched my brother everytime he play games. Could you please help me how to start this thing? I just wanted to play a game. Any game besides solitaire. Funny isn't it? But games online never catched my interest. It taking do long. My time just wasted. Okay?
