Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

The next 5 years - what are you looking forward to?

BioWare, Square-Enix and Blizzards secret MMOs; Serenity MMO; Fallout MMO; World of Darkness MMO; Lineage III; Guild Wars 2; EVE: Ambulation; Age of Conan; Aion; Warhammer; Pirates of the Burning Sea; Marvel Comics MMO; Spellborn; Stargate Worlds; Star Trek Online; Darkfall...

Big wave of new MMOs and major upgrades on the way to replace the current rubbish.. it's alot to follow. I honestly think I'll have to change my plan of paying for only one mmo at a time if any of these are as decent as they're looking to be, and if they make it out the door.

I can't wait for Age of Conan, that will keep me busy at least until all the other new stuff arrives.

What are you most excited about and following? :)

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

All my friends are looking forward to WAR because they're bored of WOW and want something similar but without WOW's faults of a boring end game. I myself am looking forward to...

    - What blizzard have to show of their 2nd mmorpg.

    - What bethesda have to show.

    - What bioware have to show

(all these developers starting with a B for some reason)

Also i'm looking forward to seeing more from EVE Online walking in stations next year and i'm looking forward to seeing what CCP's world of darkness mmorpg will be all about.

Last thing to see if SOE/LA shut down SWG or make pre cu servers, not gonna give up hope and i want one or the other.

I don't know about the next 5 years. Who knows what will be announced in that timeframe or where the genre might go.

I do know that my time with MMO's is pretty much at an end. My playstyle and taste have changed to much and MMOs have changed to little. Plus other interest are competing for my time now a days.

The few I am interested in seeing how they turn out are...

Aion, Lineage III, Guild Wars 2, The Agency, Fallen Earth. If anyone ever puts out an original worthwhile Sci-Fi title, I might take a look.

Thats about it. I don't really have the desire to get involved with huge time demanding games anymore that have no higher purpose then to make a bigger number on a character sheet through the use of time sinks and uninspired, dull grinding.

actually (in case you were interested) my first online game was BF1942 and i like playing dark/evil characters so Death got stuck with 1942 and its been my online name ever since....

    my internet life story

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game

Well i loved Morrowind and i loved Oblivion and Fallout 3 is looking fantastic so i want to see what they have to offer because if it's a FPS styled mmorpg like the games they've worked on and currently working on then WOOT!!

  • jooee77jooee77 Member Posts: 3

The need to make Oblivion into an MMO. Wonder what that would be like?

  • EverSkellyEverSkelly Member UncommonPosts: 341

hmm next 5 years....  EverQuest 3. Although i know it's not going to happen. I'd love to see new mmorpg, big, deep, complex, with lots of choices for char development and char looks. Vanguard was a big big hope, that didn't turn into what all were waiting for.

Well, AoC might be good upcoming game, if they won't make it too simple.

You and the other 5 million others studying for the same thing. GL on that one your best bet would be to just learn more programing and use it in some other industry bro. I personally work as a Web Dev and love it.

I just couldn't see working on a game for 18 hours a day and never really enjoying the playing of said game.

Sorry to stay on topic I would have to say the only ones worth watching are DarkFall and War I might take a look at AOC when it comes out only because of the population watching it.

I was thinking that 20 years ago when the first experiments with the goggles flopped.  Now I'm over 50 and have given up hope of ever seeing VR in my lifetime.  In fact, with recent developments, I'm seriously starting to think I won't ever see another sandbox (complexity, depth, freedom, CRAFTING) again in my lifetime.

When I was 16 we landed on the moon, I had my first real girlfriend, and the Miracle Mets won the world series, and I was AT the final game of the series!  And it's been downhill ever since.

    Stargate Worlds
Bioware's MMOG (assuming it's not a Console only game)
CCP/White Wolf's World of Darkness MMOG
Funcom's 'The Secret World' which appears to be the first real horror/cyberpunk style MMOG, though it's way to early to say for sure.

Stargate Worlds is supposed to be out by late 08 but I don't see it happening. The other three probably won't be out for another 3+ years, but they will hopefully be awesome. :D

Age of Conon in 2008?  March 2008 is just a dream.  Bah, sorry, but I believe it will be Christmas 2008/early 2009 at the earliest.  They have yet to show me ANYTHING with crafting except how to make a building.

I'm looking forward to Star Trek Online made by any company other than PE.  If CBS doesn't pull the license then I guess it is Stargate Worlds or KOTOR Online for me.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

    Next Gen Star Wars MMORPG

    WoW Sequel

    World of StarCraft Online

    DC Online

    Marvel Online

And something new... inventive.  Something without a single elf, troll, or orc.

Maybe something underwater.  (No, not Jaws online.  Though that would be fun, imho).

    ...

What I hope to see in those games:

A game that allows the character to advance/level by way of skill, not via time in game or by being a mindless grind/timesink.

    - Not kill 20-50 of this then go see NPC X... 100 times.

    - Not run this instance 20-50 times.

A game that give the player a lot of freedom for appearance, character skillset, character build, and world exploration.

    - Not 6-7 models and limited hairstyles, skin tones, etc.,..

    - Not just you can use this gun or that gun or that sword, but not that weapon or that one.

    - Not a system where you simply have to learn abilities that you will never use just to learn abilities that you want to use.

    - Not a system that forces you down this path or that path in a jungle (example).

A game that allows the player to find ways to use the environment and really work with the environment.

    - Not one that 'for some reason' won't allow your player to jump, walk over something small, climb a wall, knock over a tree, make holes in buildings, etc.,..

If a player is intelligent enough to find alternate ways to complete in-game objectives, they are rewarded... not accused of 'exploiting'.

A game that really finds a way to make you feel like you are making a difference in the environment.

    ...

I'd love to see graphics that look 'real'ish' yet don't kick my systems arse @ 2560x1600 (30" LCD).

I'd like to have in-game audio that really works with my surround system.

I'd like to have in-game controls that allow me to focus on what I'm doing, not finding the appropriate key to do it.

A game that offers a 'realistic' character inventory.

    - Not, you can carry X amount of gold, 20 elephant tusks, 30 bat hides, 3 wizard eyes, 12 looted weapons, 3 suits of armor...

    - Not a game that critically limits your in-game inventory

    ...

In terms of my life also no idea I still havent picked what course ill be doing after next year or if ill go back to work ( took a gap year) I usually dont think more than 2 years ahead lol
