Elderscrollsonline.com bought and reserved

It looks like the owners of Bethesda Software, ZeniMax Media, has bought the domain name ELDERSCROLLSONLINE.COM.  It would be really interesting to see a story enriched game, like Elder Scrolls to do something similar to MMO or even Multiplayer.  To be honest, I would hope they would do a Diablo style Multiplayer where you can help each other out on stories, etc....  MMO would take away from the great story that tES has always had, but it is welcoming.  How do you guys feel about this?  Fans of TES, you think making a MMO would be good or should it just be multiplayer based?  Honestly I'm excited.

Too many to choose from!!!!  I miss the days where all you had was UO or EQ.  In the gaming industry it does not seem to be competition spurs creativity and quality.  It is just a few quality products and a bunch of mishmash.  I hope this turns out to be quality.

Oh and I agree that diablo style would be neat to see.

Currently Playing: Nothing (waitinf for WAR)
Retired: AC2, EVE, DAoC, EQ, WoW

There never were days when all you had was UO and EQ.  There was only UO and then there was UO/EQ/AC1.   But not EQ1 and UO only.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

I think people looking for a sandbox MMO are more likely to get one out of Bethesda then Bioware.  Personally I never really liked thier games, but I appreciate that they try to do something different from the rest of the companies out there.

Actually according to the release date EQ came out in March 199 and AC came out in November 1999.

For some reason I didn't even find out that AC existed until long after that and by that time I was already to attached to EQ at the time to try it out.

People always seem to forget The Realm. It was out before EQ.

even if bethesda doesn't plan to make elderscrolls online.  it costs very little to reserve the name through official channels.  however if you were to get it off some squater it would cost a whole lot of cash(they just need to charge less than what trade mark legal proceedings would).

why doesn't someone dredge up a few dozen quotes from the past 5 years or so of bethesda saying they'll never make a elderscrolls MMO.   the demand for a TES MMO is there and there a whole lot, the only question is if it'll have a developers kit with it(they released it for the last two and got awesome feed back, will they do it again)???

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

I really think morrowind and oblivion are the most over hyped rpg's around. I play rpg's for the mood, dialog and story (Baldurs gate/Torment), didn't see none of that in oblivion or morrowind. The game feels like GTA with levels.

The npc's give you a blank stare if they don't have any quests and none of the characters stood out like let's say minsk from BG.  But well thats how most of the mmorpg's are so i think it will do a good mmo.

There is a law that says you can not reserve domain names that has a name copyrighted or something and you can not buy a domain with the intent to sell for a high profit knowing a company already existed or could make their own official site.

I think I read a few companies who won the domain names back with no cost because people where trying to sell for profit.

Or maybe they are just taking Oblivion, and reworking it for online access?

Believe me...it would be much easier for them to take the current tech (the game is an Engine by the way...so really, all they need to do is change the already existing code...) add the online system, spend a year in testing, and bam ...end of 2009.

    Think about it.

The facial system was designed with specific codes, that stored the data of your look...the reason there was a site created that would allow you to map your own face, and get the data to make it in Oblivion...So, you already have a unique character builder in place...

    Work is done!

Next, your character does not pick a class (the beautiful classless system)...but, built yourself around certain choices, and then changed attributes you controlled (AWESOME)...so no need to change that

    Work is done!

Really, they already also have full access to a weapons and spell system, and the time the game goes online, the cost could be incorporated to developers for them to create new shinies , quests and events in REAL TIME...

    Work is done!

And of course...a plethora of User Created Modifications....duh!

    We have.............

    Oblivion Online...(the new acronym ....OO)

    Thoughts?

I'm much less interested in this after their dumbed down rendition of Oblivion. Maybe they'll try to make a MMO for consoles; after all, Oblivion was a RPG for consoles.

This news disgusts me.  If Oblivion hadn't already killed The Elder Scrolls for me, this would certainly do it.  For years Bethesda promised to keep TES a single-player franchise.  Bethesda can go to hell (but not before they get done raping Fallout).

Honestly, I've never experienced a company I love so much becoming a company I hate so quickly.  After Morrowind, I thought Bethesda could do no wrong.  HAH.
