I am probably missing some pieces of the puzzle, but how do we know that the upcoming bioware/lucasarts project is an mmorpg and not another single player game?
http://www.lucasartsbioware.com/
The above site says nothing of an online game. it only calls it an interactive game, which is the defenition of every video game ever made.
So, were are the other *verifiable* facts that indicate the project is to be an MMORPG? Links to quotes, company statements, etc. If the two companies are not outright saying, why is everyone certain of the nature of the project?

Read the bold italic underline words. Pretty much states what it is. And since the signed a deal with lucas arts, you can pretty much guess its going to be a star wars game and be an mmo.
Right'o, but don't be surprised if you're called brainless, or a moron, or any number of other things for pointing out the reality of the situation. These people want to be right so badly that they'll attack anything that is contrary to their desires.
There's no hard evidence of this at all. The fact of the matter is that this is all just speculation, but it's not out of nowhere, there are reasons, and I'll just go over a couple of them:
BioWare opened an Austin Studio, dedicated to an MMO project that is not being spoken of beyond its existence.
A news site recently published "confirmation" from "a source close to BioWare" that they were making a KotOR MMO. Obviously the language used here is dubious and there has been no official confirmation. Regardless, this story was picked up as news by other game news sites, and so spread the rumor further.
There is further speculation that SOE's Star Wars Galaxies MMO is failing (we won't get into the reasons for that) and that LucasArs would like to try again with an MMO project. This COULD account for the secretive nature of the project.
Daimon Schubert, from Bioware Austin has geven multiple talks at conferences entitled, "Beyond Men in Tights", which have explored the reasons that we keep going back to fantasy and how the industry could move away from it. This COULD indicate that bioware's MMO is a non-fantasy title.
Now, you'll notice one thing about all of that information... it's not solid evidence. I think that it's just fun to speculate and some folks have gotten carried away and refer to it as proven fact... I'm sure though, if I gave it a little bit of thought, I could come up with a number of equally unsure facts that would lead me to believe it Wasn't KotOR. Fun times.

Thanks for those references Jon, Something that has been in short supply in most of the threads I've read on this matter. So I guess its a safe play to call it 60/40 chance of being KOTOR Online. Maybe 70/30, but I cannot see the odds going past that without more information.
I would love to see this game as an mmorpg...its Star Wars without the limitations that come with the 6 movies. Time will tell!

It is of course all just speculation.. it could be..
Kotor - Good setting, LA would surely love to have a successful MMO since they've seen what WoW can do and they know BioWare can make good use of the license. The MMO lead is the former lead of Kotor 1, plus some of the other devs are ex-Kotor 1 and ex-SWG devs.
Jade Empire - BioWare have said they want to revisit this universe, though mentioned doing it on the 360, so it's possible it might be this.
New IP - Possible, they aren't afraid to do new things, but they already have Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon Age's universes to play around in, why make a fourth?
Other LA IP - Unlikely, Indiana Jones probably wouldn't work, even from an RPG point of view, and lego Indiana is due out anyways, maybe something else, not sure what other IPs LA have that would work though.
So basically, it's just the most likely of the known IPs.
It is a MMO

Some other things that point to a KotOR MMO; SOE's license on the IP is up 2008/2009 and Bioware's new MMO will be released 2009, at least according to what I've read on these forums but it would make sense. SOE renegotiated a contract with LEC back in 2005 and those usually last three years, i.e. 2008/2009 time frame.
Also, I can't remember her name (I'll look for the interview and post it here later on), but she works at LEC and she mentioned in an interview that they wanted to publish SWG2, I doubt Bioware is making SWG2 but LEC is likely teaming up with BioWare because they did an awesome job with KotOR. That and SWG name is tainted by SOE, but you never know.
Oh and the biggest hint of all are the number of people BioWare has working on the secret MMO project, some SWG and KotOR devs are no at Austin.
I Reject your Reality and Substitute it with My Own!
Well, a lot of evidence show points in that direction, it doesn't necessarily mean that's what it will be, but it does seem the most likely considering Star Wars is LA's most recognizable and popular IP.
1) We know Bioware is working with LucasArts to make a game.
2) We know Bioware is working on an MMO.
3) We know Bioware has created KOTOR, and everyone loved KOTOR and the job Bioware did.
4) There is no evidence to link Bioware's MMO to any specific theme.
5) There is no evidence to link Bioware/LA's project to any specific theme. It's safe to assume it will relate to something under what LucasArts has created...Star Wars being the largest part of what LA is about, but also including Indiana Jones and a couple other things.
6) There have been rumors for a long time that there was another SW MMO in the works, and that the previously un-named Bioware MMO was KOTOR Online.
All of these pieces together equal KOTOR (or some other SW universe) MMO. There is no evidence against the theory, and rumors from all ends of the globe have been supporting that for months, if not years. It could be something else, but so far I am left with no reason to believe it is something else, and alot of reason to believe it is.
