One EU server

ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156

Nothing against Tabula Rasa as a game, but the fact they opened only ONE european server is bothering me. It's constantly on very high status, with queues. In addition the ping is around 200-600ms, and instances are almost unplayable with 1500+ms. And I didnt mention the fact that there is ony single general chat for the whole EU server, so it's spammed like hell not only with english speaking people, but also german, french ... I wonder how they want to fix that.

NCSoft always seems to under estimate the European demand and over estimate the U.S. demand. (like most MMO's)

I have to verify this but I saw several people saying that on their website they stated that they will add another EU server but wanted to see demand first.  What does annoy me is how so many companies think the EU is some add on market to the US.  I don't know the population of all the countries in the EU but the UK is 63 million to start with.   Its funny today even at a good US gaming time the EU server was 'very high' and all the US servers were on 'low'.  This game may appeal more to the EU crowd as well.  Might be my imagination but EU players tend to be on a lot of SCI-FI / niche games.   Language was an issue its a bit confusing to see Finnish, german, french, icelandish, english and dutch pouring through the general channel.  They can only fix this by:

    * Create an English only EU server.

    or

    * Create general  language channels so people can join which ever one suits them.

Or they could make it so  you could only type using the logos hieroglyphics. Then everyone would be speaking the same language.

Yep lord british came on today to the EU server and assured us that they will flick the switch to  maybe several new eu servers in the short future.

The EU has 350M+ plus population, a lot of that in countries with some of the world's best internet services. To neglect that market is stupid.

I have some confidence the developers feel the same way you do here.  They might be dragging their feet a bit because launch day can peak the population a bit, but if this remains constant they'll likely launch another European server.

It's interesting how Sci-Fi seems more popular over there.  Maybe they're more optimistic than we people in the US.

I agree that the spam level in general is big, but I have rather taken to the the mixed language mode there as an RP factor :) I mean not only english speaking people would have been receptives, would they. The problem isn't the language mix in general, its the spamming of nonsensical rubbish, in any language.

I can't imagine how opening a new servers at this stage would lower the current server overload. Yes certain people at low levels will reroll on the new one, but for majority of the newcommers the oldest server will be still most appealing.

all i have to say is that General British Logged Himself last night and made it clear that new EU server is Coming Up soon... i suspect that they Only w8ing to finish the preorder headstart to see what Population the server will Have and do the proper thing .. witch is wise imho :)

I only started on Sat, so re-rolling on a new server is not an issue for me. It always surprises me that the players that pay for the pre-starts and heads up always seem to get a bad deal server wise. Guilds are always a problem in this situation as well, getting the whole to agree a server switch is a nightmare.

Yes, I guess 15MB link is a crap connection. You know it has nothing to do with player side connection but a server-side? Please keep posts like yours outside of this thread. These are not WoW forums.

relax man, so many people want to play with there own kind >_>

just play with everyone else, wat seems to be the problem ><

The one EU server was quite blatently a silly idea... Queuing to play so soon after it going live is not good. It's not so much the fact that there's 1 EU server, but 1 EU and 3 US! That seems slightly ridiculous.

Once i am on though,  i've not had much issue with ping. It's a bit laggy around popular areas (like the main base in the divide), and a few lag spikes, but nothing to the level of making it unplayable.

The b1tching in general chat about language is amusing more than anything. I don't mind everyone being on one server, but having separate language tabs on the chat would make General more useful.

Well I thought it was a smart idea to start with a few servers and grow from there.  If you look at games like DDO or Vanguard that started with many, now have all condensed overtime.  So it makes more sense to look at the initial numbers, and see what really needs to be done.

True the EU servers were packed this weekend, and thats a great sign!  They underestimated the impact overseas, and like any smart company they will be adding more in to accomodate the need.  Maybe they might even accomodate different rulesets based on demand.  Who knows, but right now things are looking good, and looking forward to seeing what comes out of DG in the future.
