Housing or a Bank or...

MasterWanMasterWan Member Posts: 37

Is there housing in this game like EQII, or would that not have a place given the story in the game?

What about a bank or foot locker or something?  Is there a mail system or place to trade or sell stuff?

Is there an economy like in EQII? Also,

I have a wife and a baby.  Games like Eve and EQII did not really allow for spur of the moment AFKs.  If I get called away from the game I have to go, all be it not for long.  How is this game with that compaired to EQII?  Asking for a Pause in MMO's is just not realistic.

What about grouping.  I absolutely hate having to look for a group or being stuck at a certain points looking for people doing the smae quest as me.  I will group, I just don't want to have to.  What is that like in TR?

This game looks totally bad ass.  I just need to know a few more things before I buy.

Thanks

    Housing - no.

Bank (Foot locker) - yes and it is shared between all characters so you can pass money/items as you wish without problem.

The game action is pretty intense.  If you need to go off "this very second", you can't do it like you can in EQ2.  In EQ2 if you stopped, the game pretty much stopped around you, in TR you get constant spawns and more intense action, so you will usually need to wait a min or two until you can get to some kind of safe spot or zone.  This is especially true in a group, although if your group likes you they can just form up and defend you.

Needing to group.  Well, you can solo the entire game if you want.  You would have to wait until you outlevel a lot of content in order to do it, but it means that you won't be left behind because you can't find groups.  Groups are completely optional, but they are very fun and result in some majorly intense action.  Basically, if you don't group, you won't miss out on content, but you WILL miss out on fun.  To take your example - if you are stuck at a certaint point in a quest and you don't want to look for a group- then you can choose to go get 2 levels and come back to solo it.

    Hiya

No housing for now. It really wouldn't make any sense with the story since you are at war from minute one and the entire game is a warzone with bombs falling every few seconds all around you. Maybe someday they will put personal bunkers in or something :)

There are footlockers that all of your characters share access to. They are located in every major base (tons of bases in the game) and if you put something in a FL in one base, it will be in which ever one you open next (regardless of base point)

There's not much of an economy aside from buying ammo and selling loot at the moment.

There is an auction house type structure that is in game now, it's not active yet as it was just put in, but it's getting turned on very soon. It's more of a surplus house than an auction house though, it will give players somewhere to buy and sell things to other players :)

I also have a wife and kid. My kid is 15 months old and has Cystic Fibrosis and needs constant care. I leave the computer all the time in the middle of playing. 2 great things to help you out in this regard, A) travel is a piece of cake, fast and easy with teleports between bases you have already visited, and between planets. B) Death is pretty harmless, some stat reduction and a little running as it dumps you back to the last base you visited (unless you hang out for a rez) but if you have to run away from the keyboard and you can't get to safety, it's nothing major to take a death :)

This is truly a game for people like you and I, it's extremely casually friendly.

You can solo pretty much the whole way if you want :) If you do group you can do some extra things, and it certainly is a lot fo fun, but it's not a "must" in any form :)

Hope that helps. It;s a terrific game in my opinion and it's only gotten better in the past few months. It's more fun today than it was 3 months ago, and it was way fun then :)

It's extremely fast paced and a breath of fresh air in a stale mmorpg market.

It's a little rough around the edges in areas like UI and no screenshot key (they took it out for beta and haven't put it back yet :( ) but these things are very minor in my opinion. The foundation is rock solid and working wonderfully, and there are a ton of folks in game having a complete blast.

Good luck whichever way you go, best wishes!

Cool, thanks for the answers.  That helped a lot.  I have to make a decision here.  Get involved with another MMO or not....Hmmmm.   This one sounds like the one for me.  I'm going to have to check it out.  I was a huge UO fan back in the day, I know this game will deliver.

Thanks Mith.  Thanks for the personal relation to my questions/ concerns.  I think I am going to go buy this today and get started!  I know you feel my pain with these type of games!   So fun, but so much life to balance at the same time!

As a big fan of UO myself I would like to say that you shouldn't go into this expecting anything even close to UO. It's just as good in my opinion but for the exact opposite reasons :)

Where UO was slower, promoted socialising on a level of "virtual society", TR promotes a MOVE MOVE MOVE attitude and very little in the way of "building" a virtual world.

Imagine it this way if you can, in TR it's pretty much like this... Hi men! This is boot camp, go assault that base over there and take it back from the Bane!" From that moment forward it's chaos! Non-stop chaos!

If that's your thing then you should love it like I do :) If not though... you could despise it just as easily. There's doesn;t seem to be too much "in-between" here.

Good luck again, hopefully you like it like I do, it's the most fun I've had in any mmorpg in 11 years.

I am a more of a take my time roleplayer type and am having lots of fun with TR. The characters and animations look great. you can dye your chlothes right off the bat. you can turn off all the floaty overhead names that always annoy me. The environments are beautiful and fun to explore. Its true there is a fast paced war going on around you that is easy to get caught up in, but much of the time I take a break from that and cruise around enjoying the landscapes looking for Eloh structures and artifacts (cool alien stuff left behind). Finding the magic Logos components tucked away somewhere is always cool.  Crafting is cool. you can deconstruct the gear you find and use the parts to customize your weapon/armor of choice.  I have found myself playing this over hell gate london, and thats saying alot. Its for sure worth a try. cheers :)

Oh yeah! I didn't mean to imply that roleplayers wouldn't like it or that stopping to smell the flowers couldn't happen, I am the same way you are about that :)

I just meant that anyone who buys TR based on Richard Garriotts involvement with UO and his ideas there, could very well end up feeling cheated as it's night and day different in approach :)

    /salute

Ok, from now on, whenever I post, ; could very well = ', this broken finger is fat and for some reason Ican not stop hitting ; instead of ' !!! lol

hehehe ...broken fat finger.....I do agree with you.  Tabula Rasa cannot be compared to UO really. Other than they both are quality unique worlds. I feel its always best to go into a new MMO with no expectations and a fresh slate. Otherwise one will almost always be let down. Have a good one all :)
