Thinking of giving vangaurd a try.

hi, i was thinking of picking vangaurd up and giving it a try. but before i do i just have a couple of questions..

 1. how near to complete do you think vangaurd is?

 2. seeing that the game is group oriented how hard is it to get a group?

 3. how is the agro system? do you get healing agro? is it anything like eq1?

 4. how is the high level content? is there any raiding at all?

used to play eq1 had a bunch of friends on the karana server, and i heard my old guild 'tavern heroes' was there and now im interested in giving it a try..  thank you..

That was a horrible idea to put brown colored letters and black background, anyway:

    1) 95%

    2) Very Easy on any server

    3) Being a good tank is very hard. Agro works as in EQ1 yeh.

    4) There is already raiding, (outdoor raiding) first raiding dungeon with 25 bosses that is supposed to be amazingly difficult to finish will be released within a month.

Above poster answered it well. I picked it up for my wife and i as well recently and absolutely love it is all i can say.

    1. Complete is a hard needle to thread when talking MMOs. If you mean performance, bugs and general playability I would say it's probably about 85% there. When they release phases 2 and 3 of update 3 in the next month I'm guessing that will get closer to 90-95%.

    2. In the lower levels and can be some what difficult at times. I find it works best if you just look for people grinding and ask them if they feel like doing a quest. Most of the time they're more than happy. In the higher levels I've heard it's much easier because grouping is more of a necessity. You can also rectify this by joining a guild, there's plenty of active ones on the PvE servers and the one I joined has been quite helpful.

    3. Sorry, can't help you much on this one.

    4. The high level content is pretty slim but they have the first raiding content on the Test Server now so it shouldn't be long before it's out. The replayability of Vangaurd right now lies more in creating alts and trying out different combinations of continents, races and classes.

Hope you join up, the game is doing really well right now.

For me WoW your very favourite game is not complete at all.I would say WoW is complete on 50% if I compare it to the promises they made before release. Hero classes, guild housing, world PVP with destroyable buildings, ... 50% is still very optimistic guess to what was promised.

And no matter if a real crafting was promised in WoW or not, I don't consider wow's crafting as a real crafting. It's just a toolbar with casting time.

Well, when the original developer goes broke and releases the game while it's in Beta it tends to set things back a bit. Sony just picked it up a few months ago and has already been making huge leaps in improvements.

Well at least its was better than the release of your favourite game VS, which unfortunately was unrunable when it was released!

And now i see you are thinking about leaving it to go to Hellgate London, i thought you would stand by VS till the end!

The game has made huge leaps, as Jag said...Still not completely there, but it's worth playing and helping SOE out with reporting issues :D

Just to clarify #2, you do not have to group. The game is quite soloable. Most quests can be done solo but there are quests labeled as small group and (full) group quests.

Some classes are better than other at soloing though: Necromancers, Shamen, Rangers, clerics, bloodmages (maybe some others) are good at soloing.

Oh, i heard its not quest based like wow though.  I kinda miss going over to a "named" spawn spot and just grinding mobs with friends or exploring.  i like it when you have to work as a team..

i take it they have class's for crowd control, nukers, do they have anything like mez or spells to lower agro radius? how long does an average fight last? do nukers have to med up there mana during a fight? do you need someone to pull? etc.. well ill see for myself. i wish they would hurry up and make a trial.. lol

well why im asking is although i like eq2 its missing that eq1 feel to it, and i was looking for a game more similiar..

     thanks in advance..

It's heavy quest based progression. You can grind your way to 50, but there are good questing areas to add some flavor. Chances are, if you are in a group, you are dungeon crawling or running quests.

Yes to all the above. I played a Bard, and with a lull, mez, and charm a 4 mob pull drops to single target action.
how long does an average fight last?
Depends what you're fighting and the group size/build. Solo even con 2 dot mob, maybe 5-20 seconds (depends on class really).
do nukers have to med up there mana during a fight?
There are some abilities that allow for in-combat regen, but generally you build it quickly when out of combat.
do you need someone to pull?
If you are asking if there is social agro, the answer is yes. There are several tactics employed when pulling, depending on the group build.
etc.. well ill see for myself. i wish they would hurry up and make a trial.. lol
