Considering it, but a little confused

I honestly hadn't followed this game much, but suddenly noticed it now that it's out. I've been reading FAQs and such, but I'm still a little confused about this game. So, if anyone can help me out on these points:

1. Aiming: Is it like a soft-aim thing, where if you point in the right general area it will auto-calculate whether you hit or not?

2. View-point: All the videos I see are third person. Can you play first person? If so, is it advisable to do so?

3. Solo: Can you solo in this game? I'm sometimes anti-social.

4. Classes: I'm reading about the classes on the main site, the most interesting top tier ones to me are the Grenadier and the Exobiologist. Can anyone give me a general idea of what it's like to play one of these (or one of the prerequisites since the game just came out)? Also, reading the descriptions, the Grenadier has the prereq of Commando. As a grenadier, can you use all the commando weapons as well? Can you switch between/carry several weapons. Like, say, a rocket launcher and a flamethrower?

5. Logos: So...high-tech magic? What do these do, exactly?

6. Downtime: How do you recover from fights? Is it quick? I like quick.

I was wondering the same thing concerning the tiers of advancement. For instance, when one progresses from a ranger to a sniper/spy, does one retain the ranger abilites?

1 )Yes its a bit like that, as long as you hold down the trigger youll not loose the target as long as you aim roughly at the direction.

You can also *tab* to lock but i seldom do that.

    2) you can *zoom in* that looking over the shoulder of your toon..there no real 1p mode..not yet

    3) Yes you can solo very well, groups are great fun, you can do instances alone just get good gear and one or two more lvls and advance with tactics

    4) you keep the skills you gatheres at the first classes,

MEAN sniper keep their ranger skills if they put

point into rangerskills..you can also keep all points and hold on em till you can put all into

sniper skills. PLAN your char ;) but you can clone before every breach.

and they do scale up..you reset skills

if you clone but not your attribute points.

Best thinkg go to stratics or 'Ten ton hammer forums

    inform yourself ^^

    5) Logos are collected at certain points in

dungeons ereas etc.You need em to unlock skills so you can put points into em. Lore like thyre

    Alien magic like teachings.

    6) Downtime is very very low..very ;) its quick

    Hope this was helpfull

  • Interesting. Not sure I'm so comfortable with the lack of first person. Is there a plan to add it at some point?

I'm a Tabula Rasa freak when it comes to reading updates and upcoming info and stuff like that. I've followed every bit of information daily since CB. However unfortunately, this is not on their list of "improvements"/"additions." It's definitely something that if you enjoy the game send that suggestion into their Feedback Form-- you never know!

Honestly, though, it's definitely something that I was looking to see if they had as well when I started playing and by the time I was level 5, that was the last thing on my mind. The third person view works wonders. There is a way to do over the shoulder view, if that helps any!

  • Hmm, maybe I'll give it a shot. I'd feel better if there were a free trial demo thingy online, but hey, it just came out.

One more thing, though. I notice some classes are melee specialists. How is the melee combat in this game compared to the shooting? Is it fun or do you find it lacking?

Melee works fine - you can pistol whip, rifle smack, shotgun bash etc. Just walk up to an opponent and press F instead of left-click to shoot.

There are these purple floating in air octopus things called miasma. Once they have been damaged they phase out for a second or two. During the phase out period they cant be hurt. So I prefer to smack these critters in melee rather than waste ammo.

Also if you get an overkill a red skull appears above your dead foe for a few seconds. If you rush in and melee (F) you get a nifty animation and double XP.

At higher levels the Guardian gets a staff weapon, and the spy gets a sword.
