WoW or TR?

RelicasRelicas Member Posts: 12

Hey guys, im an ex-wow player. I've not played WoW since the Burning Crusade came out. With all the hype about tabula rasa and how its "something new", i thought about giving it a shot. However, some people have been saying that it would get boring quick. Is that really the case?I have really enjoyed wow last time, but i do enjoy FPS games such as CS.  TR is a mix of FPS and mmorpg.. and i don't know if it would be able to keep me in for a long time compared to WoW. I can play up to 6 hours a day depending on my schedule and plans. I really dont want to waste money to buy TR to be disappointed. Is this a game where i could stay on for a long time?

Please do give me your opinions guys. Should i give this game a shot or continue with WoW?

I'll tell you if you promise you won't be mentioning WoW in the general chat in-game, and then if you don't like the game coming here bitching on it how much it sucks and how much it copied WoW.

Six hours a day is a lot. Don't expect it to have all features finished. They will be adding content regularly. The game is fun. The combat is samiliar to DDo. Mix of FPS and auto-aim. The character customization is very good. I don't think anyone know at the moment what is the exact end-game or planned end-game. But I'm sure it will be more PvE focused than PvP.

The thing in what TR is unique is the atmosphere of endless war. It really has that feeling. In addition the instances are great. Very good theme and story. I don't know how long I will stay with the game, but it will surely give me enough fun until at least I hit the max level.

I see. I prefer PvE over PvP and im glad to hear that. However, im unsure if the combat system is to my liking. I never tried DDo before. I might have to try the game myself in order to see if i would like the change from magic and melee, etc for many hours to guns and shooting. An mmorpg with the "grind" as shooting is something i've not tried before. The part where it hurts would be my wallet eventually though, haha. Im excited about the atmosphere and might give TR a shot. Thanks for your input, i hope more would give their honest opinions, esp from those who are ex-wow players and people who are currently playing it.

Guns, shooting and magic ^^ Logos abilitys are pretty much "magic", I love Tabula rasa it is a unique game and but if you have up to 6 hours a day to play, i am not sure if the game is right for you.

I would go play EVE online I am an Ex-wow player and i can say this, TR is nothing like WoW and anyone that thinks so is on that crack pipe. Its a great game overall its fun, there is a on going war 24/7, and if you want to get into end-game or what they have out right now grouping is the way to go....Go make friends make lots of them.

    Playing: Everthing
    Played: DAoC,AC2,EvE,SWG,WAR,MXO,CoX,EQ2,L2,LOTRO,SB,UO,WoW.
I have played every MMO that has ever come out.

If your a WoW burnout, I suggest TR, nothing has changed in Azeroth. But if  you was a new player I would suggest WoW due to user frienldness and instant fun.

Agree minus the going back to WoW part i don't think anyone should ever go back to WoW if they have quit...But that's just me.

Well, if you like FPS, TR should be amusing for you. The game is, in my opinion barely anything, if not at all. alike WoW. i have played WoW a couple of years. been to 60/70 a few times too. and now i haven't played it for over a half year. I've been in the Beta's of TR. and its great, i really love it. but im not sure if im going to buy it though.

I suggest you buy it and try it out. if you dont like it you can maybe sell your account to a friend or likes. can't be that much of a problem.

Give the game a shot, if not just go back to your old WoW again.

As a WoW burnout, I can say that for me, TR is exactly what I needed.  No more mashing the same skills over and over again while standing stationary.  TR takes the tactical parts of a fps (cover, height, crouching, positioning) and adds the character customization of a MMORPG.  You're stats are meaningful, but no more so than your skill as a player.  Combat is as fast pace as it comes.  Farming and kill quests are part of the game, but the tempo and feeling of being part of a real war make it so its not a chore.

The long term viability of the game remains to be seen.  As far as I know the end game content is still very much undecided.  When players hit the lvl cap what will there be to do?  The quest based instancing doesn't really encourage more than one or two trips through.  Whatever they decide to implement I hope it is more than the endless rep grinds and raids that WoW degenerated into, but only time will tell.

Even just with the in game experiences I've had so far (lvl 22), TR has been well worth the $50 investment.

"Something new" has a lot of implications. It's a fresh take on certain aspects of mmos like combat and npc interaction. It is still very much an mmo though. As far as getting bored quickly, it's possible. Even playing 6 hours a day, in the worst case I doubt you'd get bored until you finished a lot of the content and got burned out on clan wars. No one really knows what the game at level 50 will be like yet.  That will be what defines the game's longevity. It is something in which you can sink 6 hours of playtime a day and not get tired of it for a while at least.  It's a fun game and worth playing, especially compared with the option of continuing WoW. The things they have planned look pretty interesting too.

I would make mine the words Brennano said, except the standind still on WoW part.

WoW was excelent but I have reached my limit, can't find a reason to lon on there anymore. TR is working fine for me, it's fast, furious, diferent in theme, I like it so far. Need to play it more though, since patching only left me enough time to do a few things on tutorial.

stop asking silly questions and just burn everything WoW related. Then get TR :D doesn't even have to be in that order, you could roast marshmallows on the WoW fire while TR is installing/updating.

But seriously, WoW was fun. But if your anything like me your fed up with the same quests to get to 60. Sure if you already have a 60 heading straight to outland I guess it might be worth it. The combat is the same, the quests are the same, everything is the same in a new local. And god help you if you have to do 1-60 again, instances are littered with people with 70's who think they know everything. Just take the know it all 60's and add like 20 know it allness and that's where the game is at.

TR is awesome, community is good. And the base raids are hell of fun.

Things you should know about TR  :

    *  It is NOT a First-Person-Shooter.  There is NO First-Person View mode.  There is no aiming ala BF1942, etc.  No head-shots and so forth.

    *  It is missing a LOT of what makes a traditional MMORPG a MMORPG.  It is pretty much 100% instanced.  Very similar to how EQ2 was when it launched.  Lots of duplicate zones.

    *  It is really run 'n gun type play.  Has some new features for run ' gun 3rd person play, but not nearly enough yet.

    *   It is new, and rough around the edges.  Incomplete and lacking in some content.  No vehicles.  No aircraft.  No real mechs, to speak of.

Overall, I think Planetside is a much better implementation of Sci-Fi FPS.  Sadly, they made some critical mistakes with that game (the most egregious being their zone-aiming weapon fire).

So, might want to wait for  a bit before shelling out $50.  Wait for the inevitable 2 Week Trial.  Should not be long in coming.

    Good Hunting.

I would like to add that due to the rather hefty server loads as of late, the content should be coming out sooner than expected.

More subs = More $$$ = More content.  Things look pretty good.

While there's no headshots or stuff like that you do kind of have to aim, and you can't really run n' gun if your using certain guns. For example, if your using a rifle you have to aim for the mob you don't just lock on and click, if your not aiming at the mob you'll miss more. And if you have the aiming dot pointed at the mob you'll do more dmg, so the better your aiming the more dmg/crits you'll do.

It's more in depth then say in WoW with a hunter how you just target and choose to attack, you have a hand in how much dmg you do.

The game was fun, for awhile, it was a joke when you pulled out a rocket launcher, and hit that person for 1 damage, gg broken pvp.

TR wasn't deigned for PvP, it is more of an after-thought than anything else...

Did you do any research about TR prior to buying it?  Hell, you could have given me $25.00 to tell you that this game isn't for PvP, this would at least have saved you the other $25.00.  Sorry you got burned, but give the devs credit, they haven't advertised PvP at all since TR is a PvE, 'us against the aliens' type of game...

I think what he's trying to say is, they never said there'd be PvP even looking into the game for 10 minutes would have showed you at least 3 sources that said "there will be little to no PvP in Tabula Rasa"

Perhaps you need to check your sources? Lol. Ignorance is bliss.

Play TR it's fun, but there's no PvP. And there never was supposed to be, doesn't make much sense for in fighting when an alien race just took your planet

BUT if you want to be stubborn and think that there'll be PvP even though everything I read, including interviews with Richard Garriot, you know the maker of the game, said that PvP was going to be a small part of TR. BUT HEY what does he know he only made the game.

    Done with this thread now.

So you a fanboy, are trying to justify to me that what little PvP in the game there is, even if it is horribly broken, doesn't matter? I'm confused, why would your messiah even think of implementing it?

Voila! More stuff to contradict you because, you haven't done your homework.

We would like to point out that the lack of any PvP questions/answers is due the fact that the Tabula Rasa developers felt it would spoil the surprise if it was discussed. We have been assured however that PvP will be an integral part of the game experience and players who want to fight each other shouldn't be worried.

is that a frown on your face from being pwned?
