Enough time for AoC and WAR?

CzzarreCzzarre Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,742

So, both these ganmes are coming down the pike. Both pretty much will be released around the same time. Both coming to release with a full head of steam from hype and anticipation. Both will be released at a time that many feel WoW population is loooking for something new.

I, like many, have been researching AoC and WAR as my next MMORPG. My Problem, I like a lot of what I am reading and seeing from BOTH. I see a lot of people writing threads "OaC >> WAR because of ..." and "WAR beats AoC because of..." etc. Fact is , I think they will both be very good. And so I pose the question.

Do you think it is feasible to be active in BOTH AoC and WAR at the same time? Or do you think the time commitments in trying to advance through each game will neccesitate focusing on one. I posted this on both the AoC and the WAR forums, just to see if there would be a different viewpoint between the populations.

You do know that this is exactly what is wrong with MMORPGs today?

    Right?

That people feel they "don't have enough time" to remain competitive. How could you POSSIBLY keep up in TWO games at once unless you played 24 hours a day!?!?!

It's this kind of attitude this is what has brought the MMORPG genre to where it is today.

    And it's all Everquest's fault.

Sadly some people feel this way about just playing 1 game. At some point in time people have to realize they become so self obsessed with their own character so much that they either avoid or ruin it for the other players around them. What's so massive about that?

It is quite possible if you are that dedicated. Unfortunately the dedication that is required to pull off such a feat, you will be sacrificing money/job time, friends, and/or school.

A person could juggle time between the two, but you would have to be "really" casual. Both games have casual features, but you would sacrifice im sure if you prefered to be in a guild say.

When I play a mmorpg I often find myself commiting 15-20 hrs a week plus. I could see myself doing double that time, but as someone who is in first year of marriage, got a new job, moved to a new country, I have alot of real life stuff going on.

The thing is you could always pick one up later on letting the one you let go by mature through feedback and patches to be a better game anyhow. Some of the best times I've had playing a game have been a year after their release and were nothing how I remembered a trial before hand.

I won't mention the guy on the war board who thinks AoC has r v r and is trying to tell everyone how poor the game is and how restrictive it is with bad info.

All a question of how much free time you have and what your personal gaming goals & constraints might be.

Myself, no, I could not play both of them and progress at a level that I'd be happy with...... I don't even mix up my play time between multiple alts...I start a character....and get it to the top before starting another....just my obsessive nature I suppose

But I read about people who play MMO's and also have time for the latest single player PC or console titles...so obviously for some folks its possible to multi-task.....

For me ....."there can be only one"

Though I'll probably keep my EVE subs going...since I'm able to level even when taking a break...and can return when I'm ready to.....

That is a good question. I also think that both games will be excellent and would love to play both but doubt I will have the time to focus on more than one to get the full experience. For the time being I plan on trying both for a month or so to get a feel for which I might enjoy more and then dump the other one.

I'm in the same boat as the OP!  I think it will come down to the month of Feb and March.  Hopefully I've experienced atleast one with a beta invite at that time and I will get a chance to sample the game.  But they could also be pushed back which could effect a lot of people's decisions.  There is still a lot that needs to be seen by me to commit to one or the other.  Right now I think AoC is in the lead with their new combat system.

You can always buy both at some point, subscribe to one for a couple months, play up, then go to the other, and so on. That is, if you're not obsessive with your characters and you get a nice, supportive guild that understands your playing times and style.

But if you have the money, then I'm sure you could manage to play both frequently and advance at a good pace. Maybe not a monster pace, but depending on how you play I doubt it would be slow as hell, moreso if both games end up being as entertaining as they promise to.

I don't know about Warhammer, but Age of Conan will have fairly quick leveling. It was mentioned in one of the demonstration videos that it would take 40 hours to gain 40 levels.

Even if leveling slows down at lvl 40 (halfway point, 80 levels total) that's extremely fast compared to most MMORPGs

After that you can just join a guild or be a mercenary and you'll probably only need to log on at specific times in order to defend or attack castles, or go on raids if you're into PvE.

Try the two and THEN choose one and talk about them. I hate people that says that AoC or WaR sucks like fanbois when they didnt played or anything else.

And I hate people that can't see from the gameplay videos released thus far that AoC is far and away more interesting than the auto attacking whack a mole gameplay you see in WAR.

Want to point out that AoC is furhter in development than WAR is and that we'll probably see more improvement of WAR soon. That said, it may be that the combatsystem will stay exactly the same and then AoC will have my vote as well.

The most important thing is Not what is shown in videos during development - it's how the game plays upon release.

If anyone finds enough time to play both games regularly, i feel sorry for them.

There is no reason why you could not play two or more MMOPRGs at the same time and have fun.  The problem is that most people now days seem to be consumed by the need to level, hit max level, then do whatever it is they expect to happen after that, such as raiding to get armour you probably never need etc.

If I feel like crafting, I play Vangaurd.  If I feel like mindless PvP, I play WoW twinky PvP battlefields.  If I feel like something beautiful and thoughtful, I play EVE.  How many games can be relaxing as you cruise though core-space freighting trade goods to make a profit on the markets.

So for me it's AoC or WAR next year.  AoC's crafting system sounds like it may have the complexity I enjoy, so I will try that.  If it is as good as it promises to be, then for me Vanguard will be toast.  I may try PvP in both AoC and WAR: if either is more fun than WoW, then WoW may be toast and the better PvP game will take that playstyle.  At the moment, I do admit I expect of that 3-way contest AoC will be the winner, although WoW does have a charming mindless fun PvP aspect.

It occurs to me that I play MMORPGs the way I read books or watch DvDs.  I don't ask for a particular book or film to give me everything: if I want something mellow and pretty, I pick something like that.  If I want a space epic that has a real grand soap-opera aspect (allegations of cheating, corporate conspiracies etc) then something like The Reality Dysfunction is going to hit that spot.  As long as a game meets a niche in my meandering playstyles, then it may catch a sub from me.

By this time next year, I expect that I will be playing AoC and EVE.  AoC simply looks like a game with more depth in it than WAR, and either seems likely to offer fresh PvP - unless WoW do something, there is only so long you can play twinky-toy PvP without getting bored.

If you try and spread your time between two MMO's, then you better A.) Not have a job and have all day to play or B.) Prepare to not have a top level raiding / pvp / gear experience.

MMO games are the masters of time-sinks. I wouldn't pay $30 a month to suck in two games when I can pay $15 a month to be awesome in one. But then again, it is a philosophical approach. Some people go through life diversifying hobbies trying to be the jack of all trades, and some take the approach to be good at one thing and not shitty at many.

I get my gratification from being at the top of the food chain in PvP and being one of the players on the server that is targeted often. That won't happen if I spread my time through two MMO's. :)

Play both..  It's only like 14 bucks a month for one.

Wow... reading through this thread really makes me see what the genre has become.

Of course people have time to play more then 1 game.  It all depends on what you want out of the game.

If all you want is to get to the max level as fast as possible and go on 5 hour raids every day after that then no, you probably won't be able to maintain two brand new MMO games.

On the other hand, if you're like me, you definitely have time for more then one MMO game.  I have been playing LOTRO with a group of friends since the first day of release & I'm only level 47 today.  I have played many betas, console games, other PC games (CoD4 is amazing!) in that time frame as well.

I don't dedicated 40 hours a week to LOTRO, I play a few hours here a few hours there.  It's fun and relaxing to log into the game, I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere or compete with anyone.

So I can say, personally, that I will be trying both WAR and AoC.  If I like both of them then I will keep both subscriptions active for as long as they keep my interest.
