Any child that has access to the internet can find far better sources for nudity than this game could possibly provide. I would be concerned that my child was ignorant if this was the source he chose for his porn.
So, if your child is using online video games as a source for pornography, GROUND THEM!! Then, by all means get that ignorant little bastard a tutor.
I am a true elite gaming warrior, and I do not fear these foul creatures called "children" Let em come, I'll be ready to fend off their vile attacks.....
Years ago, I owned a book entitled "The Unattended Child's Cookbook"
Lots of yummy recipes for unattended children.
Of course, each recipe came with instructions at the bottom "If you are unable to locate an unattended child for use in this recipe, feel free to substitute a half pound of lean (veal/beef/pork*)", etc.
I think that's gonna be the kicker though...
A fair number of well-meaning, but somewhat computer illiterate parents will pony up the upfront money and pay for a subscription, but eventually, when they walk in on little Johnny (or Susie) propositioning a half naked hooker (and surely they will - and I point to the fact that *every* parent catches their child m*st*rb*t*ng at some point between their 12th and 18th birthdays as proof of my theory), the account'll get cancelled right quick.
The only kids this game will be over run by (thats not saying there won't be actual kids under the age of say 15 playing cause im sure there will be) will be adults 18 + acting like immature kiddiez. I'll be honest in alot of games some of the worst attituded players I ended up grouping with or guilding with were usually adults. You might get 1 in 10 kids that act like complete asshats but it was usually immature adult players that made some game runs not so enjoyable.
AoC will be a great game I'm sure...but I'm still going to wait and see what the talk is like once a full blown community is up and running when the game is live.
Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!
Sex buffs from bar wenches and nudity will be a bonus, but it won't be the nudity that attracks the kids.
Decapitation and dismemberment... blood and gore... and (I'll believe it when I see it) mounted combat.
Now, if they'd just have a hard core ruleset server, like when you die you re-roll, that would be the best game ever. It wouldn't be a popular server because there are too many carebears out there to cry about lag and disconnecting and it not being fair, but it would be fun and the risk vs reward would be thrilling.

By the time you are a teenager will already know all about sex. You will have done sex education at school. You will probably have watched some soft porn. Played lots of 18 games with plenty of sex, violence and drug usage. And seeing a pair of breasts in a game wouldn't be much at all.
The nudity will be adding to the realism of the game, and besides, if the parents feel it's inappropriate then they just won't let their kids play it, the only way to play it is via them anyway. Well, that or nicking their credit card.

MMO's have always been dominated by adults. Now that does not speak about the maturity level of some of these adults as a lot of them act worse then a few mature 14 year olds I've meet.

No one is going to play a game just because you can see some boobs on animated characters.
Wrong I'm afraid, plenty will. But you are right in the sense that not nearly as many of these will be there as some here are predicting.

Agree. Sex sells But the kids arent the problem. The real kids i know in mmos are about being strong. They duel to check who wins.. just like kids. The good thing is, that you need an armor to be strong. Those are the male kids i know. Oh, and none of them ever would roll a femal character. Ewww... The few femals kids playing i know of would tease a bit with their virtual body, but care much more for cool outfit. Cant think of any teen female playing this game anyways...

You kinda insinuating that there is something wrong with me, and btw if you re-read my reply above you will notice I quoted the guy that you quoted and interjected my opinion. Obviously you calling me out was more of a ploy.
Your nearly as bad as the guy who thinks its normal and ok to post "Funcom bullshits, they dont do this, they havent got this, AoC fails blah blah" and then never offers anything to back it up and questions you as to why you respond..
Regardless of what you think of me, its most likely just because you can see pixalated breasts in this game, won't stop people from playing it.
Not sure what the issue is here.. blood and violence is much worse than nudity in every culture in the world, cept media heavy America. Don't why you guys rate nudity higher than violence.
In Europe AoC will do fine, and as a European, I don't care about anything else
Yeah... I have my concerns because the way they flaunt it makes it seems like its nothing more than a marketing ploy rather than a genuine adherence to lore. Knowing that there will be a lot of kids coming in, I'll likely hold off on this game for a while for the immaturity to die down first, maybe they will eventually leave. Though it took WoW a while and that only had provocative dances so I don't know how long I'll have to wait. Luckily by the looks of 2008 ill have plenty of other options.

It seems like Funcom is not saying "We are going with an M rating because the Conan universe needs that type of rating to come across as accurate as we would like. Nudity & bloodshed are just a part of the Conan world and we would not want to cut those out of a game based on the IP."
Instead it seems like they are saying "Look, boobies and lots of blood! Ooooo... controversy! We have naked women and severed heads.. everyone look at our game!!"
It's a little disappointing that they are taking that route, but hey, I guess what ever kind of publicity you can get is good for the business.

I haven't seen any1 shoving boobs in any1s face. They just have some wit in their posts.
It's laughable that the game will attract more kids just because of nudity. It's even more laughable that some1 might consider not playing just because of that (if it happens).
Cmon any1 can watch free porn online. Why pay for a game and monthly to see an approximation of the real thing?

In the interviews out there, their own website and forums, the podcast radio interviews, the presentations to the media and all the gaming conventions (with video interview, and write ups) they have gone to this year there is evidence that they do exactly this:
"We are going with an M rating because the Conan universe needs that type of rating to come across as accurate as we would like. Nudity & bloodshed are just a part of the Conan world and we would not want to cut those out of a game based on the IP."
In fact its the first thing they say 99% of the time.
They explain that there will be Nudity and Gore alot because its good to get this out of the way, but still people seemed shocked.
In fact they tend to promote the game fighting mechanics more so. All you have to actually do is listen and watch, its inevitable alot of questions asked in interviews and such like are aimed at the brutality and ask how the Hyborian world will be portrayed in AoC, because the world does contain all these "Taboo" subjects. When these "taboo" subjects come up its always put across in decent explaination, and please remember Funcom are proud and confident of delivering a game true to the I.P. Licence and the Lore.
So excuse me if this comes across more so than other unique points about the game, but its only because people judge Nudity, Blood and Gore themselves as the be all and end all in the game, and its been proved time and again there is alot more to it.
Personally, I find the ability to perform a 'fatality' move that decapitated my foe pretty fricken COOL - not to mention the quote where the dev was wondering around exploring the world and comes across an altar with sacrifical human parts on it, including different organs....
Really, the first thing they say isn't whhhoooo 'Nudity' thats the public not them.
I couldn't agree more. Where I feel Funcom crossed the line is when they introduced sex buffs from Inn winches. Do I think that winches play a part in Conan lore? Yep. Do I think buffs should be any part of it? Hell no. If anything, you should get a DEBUFF from having sex before heading out to battle. Look at professional athletes, their managers keep the players under curfew and no sex the night before games. They do this because it hinders performance (no pun intended) for 18-24 hours.
But back on topic... you are spot on. Nudity may play a part, but the combat is what is going to keep these kids interested in the game.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
I would have agreed with all of your points, Avery, if not for the fact that Keaira appears in an issue of Playboy less then fully clothed.
I'm sorry, it really throws any kind of credibility out the window.
Let me explain myself, though. I could care less about Funcom's marketing. The more publicity that the game gets the better in my opinion. Gore and nudity have no effect on me wanting to play the game any more or less. The beautiful world, unique combat mechanics, & open PvP are what draw me to AoC.
Having said that, I think the path that the marketing department seems to be taking is less focus on the actual game mechanics and more focus on what will bring more attention to the game (IE: Gore and nudity).
The developers aren't entirely innocent either. The 10 minute look at the female avatar in the game? Spawning a succubus just because the creature is topless? Watching a NPC peeing off a pier?
Female avatar, sure, showing off the different armor and such... but I'd like to point out that there is not a video of the same type of setup using a male avatar.
I'm sure that the demonologist has more then 1 pet... but almost every video that I have seen has had a succubus as the pet.
Using a peeing NPC to show the AI functionality of needs/wants was pointless. I would rather have watched an NPC getting tired and closing up their shop to go to bed. Something that was tangible that would have made me go ... wow the AI is incredible!
Anyway..... I'm going to bed.
