I heard it was going to be on a 24 hour clock. Idunno if it's confirmed or already in beta but it seems like it would be cool. Except for it being dark ALL night.

Yes, there is a 24 hour clock. And apparently, from what I've heard from the testers, you don't really notice the fact that it's night too much. Apparently you can still see, which I would consider a plus.

I think I heard that the only real difference is going to be certain monsters will be nocturnal and some will be diurnal. I don't think many will be crepuscular. (just learned that word, means comes out at twilight... i had to use it cuz it's so cool ::::20:: )

Regardless if you can tell the difference or not, because its a 24 hour clock you will never see sunrise/sunset unless you log on at precise/fixed time during the day (who plays at 6am?). Thus, if you log on at 9pm every day to play, the time on the server will be exactly the same.

I suggest you read this thread as this topic has been thuraly discussed.

blizz is still experimenting with WoW's clock in the beta, phase-1, they started with a 24 hour clock and i think they are testing out a 12 hour clock now.
  • LugnardLugnard Member Posts: 474

It's still a 24 hour clock and will remain that way.

World of Warcraft will be usuing a 24hour clock, but this is beta so the whole game could change before release. I think that the 24 hours clock this a really good idea, it makes the mmorpg seen more real.

The 12hr or mabey 6hr clock would be better. That way you get to see some of each at least once every 2 days.

Ofcourse it would be better, but blizzard is stubborn about having a 24 hour clock. As they have stated, the main reason for doing it is so people who are too lazy to look at a clock will be able to ingame see the current time. Why the game doesnt have two clocks (game time and real world time) is beyond me.

I'm not sure if those players who play mostly at evenign/night will be pleased with the idea of ALWAYS playing during the game's night time. It might be better if night isn't obvious *except for maybe in key regions.* God knows one of the worst parts of SWG was night time. Not being able to see anything outside a 3 foot radius of ur char is kinda lame.

Hey will WoW have a personal light like in SWG? I think I remember torches being mentioned as light sources but can someone confirm?

Torches will be used at night and in darker dungeons and caves but for the most part your char can see pretty well at night.  From all that I have seen there is no light the emminates from your char but instead that night is really not all that dark.  You can of course tell that it is indeed nightime but its basically just slightly darker than standing in the shadow of a tree during the afternoon.  Even if one was to play on a 12 hour clock they might stil incounter problems with still playing during only the morning or the night of the game because there 3-6 hour time slot for gameplay may still fall on a nighttime, this time frame would be the same every day (if i play form 7pm-10pm every night I may simply be playing from 10pm-4am every ingame "day/night.")  I Belive a clock that is simply off-set with say, a 18 or a 20 hour day would be effective.  Users who play during normal hours would then experiance a shift in time slowly over the course of their playtimes.

I agree. I think they should use a 19-hour clock. If you play for about 4 to 2 hours every day, and log in at about the same time, and if they do use a 19-hour clock then it will almost look like the same time of day from when you left. Witch I think would be cool. So the days are long and almost seem real if you play for say 8 hours. But you can see all times if you log in at a set time every day.

Is wow set on a different planet besides earth or just a early earth that was forgotten like Tolkien's books.

No, it's a different planet that's connected to different worlds through gates and such. Least, I'm pretty sure about that. What I didn't know was what you just said about Tolkien's works. And I've read all his Lord of the Rings books minus the Silmarillion, which I plan to read once I finish all my reading assignments for my english class and the latest Dune book that I haven't gotten the chance to get. But... maybe one day... heh.

Well in Tolkien's books the story takes place on earth. The way it goes is that it was in a time that was forgotten. Which took place in England. You see England does not have vary many myths and legins of old. Most of what they had was destroyed by Viking invasions. Even king Arthur is not English its French in origin. So Tolkien was really mad about how little myths and legins England had so he made some up. Like the "Lord of The Rings". He put it in a setting before recorded history in England.

So what I meant was is wow on another planet or just some prehistoric events on earth.

That doesnt make sense about the LoTR stuff. England didnt have most of the technology for architecture and armor and weapons making until after the vikings came. They were very primitive before then, even when the Romans came they were still primitive. Hell, the LoTR stuff looks like youd need middle ages technology at least. And how does magic play into it? There arent very many real myths that have wizards and dark sorcerers until late middle ages, the most are witches and demon worshippers etc.

    king arthur had merlin ..
    frodo has gandalf ..
simple as that ... so yes magick can come into this .. and as grossmesser just said .. its fantasy .. it dosnt have to make the remotest bit of realityor sense if you dont want it to .. ther could be a cucumber that goes on a quest he was sent on by a <insert hard to pronounce name> to get the
<insert hard to pronounce name> so he can give it a belly button .

Do you know of any good sites that describe the universe of world of Warcraft that goes in to a lot of details. I am new to gaming and don't know that much about it.

Buddy you are in luck, Blizzard just put up the ENTIRE WARCRAFT HISTORY HERE. This tells everything about the History of warcraft in stunning detail. Just read the first chapter or so and you'll understand why it is award winning.
