Hi, i played FFXI when it was first released but quit after about 2 weeks at around level 8 with my whitemage because i couldnt solo anything and most people spoke japanese not english, so couldnt get a group either.
Now it seems like the game has improved by a lot, and am thinking of trying it again. Here are some questions, thank you.
1) What is the max level? 75? how exactly does leveling/jobs/subjobs work?
Do you level one job to level 75? then you can start another job at level 1? etc.. Can you ever use skill/spells from more than 1 job at the same time? or is it basically just let you switch jobs similar to the character selection screen in other mmorpg but instead of creating/selecting different characters you select different jobs?
If i have 2 jobs a whitemage and a warrior(?), can i wear plate armor while still able to cast heals? that would be awesome!
This job/leveling system seems very interesting but i was never able to understand it.
2) Are there bots? gold farmers? how big is the problem?
3) Which english speaking server has the highest population
Comments
thanks for the reply! but i am still very confused on the jobs.
1) So you can only have 1 job at level 75, all other jobs will be maxed at 37?
2) You level first job white mage to say 60, then decide to try a subjob - blackamge, then you will start at level 1 as a whitemage/blackmage? but does this mean you can use skills from BOTH jobs at the SAME time?
3) Continue with previous example, now you are level 37 as a white mage / black mage. Then what happens? you cannot gain exp?
got it! thank you.
i am going to be a taru taru bard with whitemage as sub
All Right! Tarutaru ^^
I think Acid covered pretty much all the important stuff.
Keep in mind though, that White Mage is still the hardest job to level the first ten levels solo, even more so with no sub job. Try to find someone other than a healer to group with if you can, although it's not all that common in those levels.
Oh, and try to learn to use the Auto-Translate thingy pretty quick. Japanese players are often very helpful, make good groups or group members, and are fun to communicate with however limited it might be.
EDIT: Asura seems to be a very popular server lately. If you decide to start there, feel free to /tell Poddle (me) with any questions or just to say 'hi'. There's also a Linkshell just starting that originated in these forums. Not sure on the details yet, but I assume it will welcome new players like yourself.
yeah, I just started playing the game yesterday, for the first time. I rolled a WHM.....and challenging is certainly what I would call it. I got my arse handed to me the first three times I tried to kill anything :P
I also ended up spending a LOT of time reading the manual and various web sites. It has paid off.
Although difficult, I love it. It is so nice to finally have found a challenging, complex game that I can really sink my teeth into....and there's no pop-ups and little voice overs holding my hand. No linear quest system getting me to level 10 in an hour.
It's a world...and I'm in it....and my future is in MY hands. WTB more games like this.
Whar, if you are on Asura and you want any help feel free to send me or anyone else on the forums a tell! I know how frustrating it can be when you're first starting.
with all these WHM im thinking I should be a war or monk now..
Right now, I'm really enjoying the challenge....but the most frustrating part was getting the controls set up to an intuitive configuration. I ended up plugging in an Airflow controller...and it ROCKS for this game.
thanks guys, i am waiting for the wings of goddess release to start the game. Hoping they will have some kind of package deal that include all previous expansions + wing of goddess.
Honestly i am easy, and had fun playing all sorts of classes in different mmorpgs- tank/burn/pet/healer etc.. I understand FFXI is a STRICTLY group based mmorpg, probably even more so than Everquest. For this reason i like to play the most in demand class to make LFG easier, which from the comments seem to be the biggest time sink requiring hours of waiting if you have an unpopular job class.
This has been asked gazallion times and i know the answer is play what you like:P but is there another job/subjob combo that's in higher demand for single group than bard/whitemage?
thanks!
perhaps red mage/white mage i hear red mage is better at the end due to haste and such. I woulnd't really be to worried about group though there will be plenty once wings of goddess is out. They also might have a bundle im not sure I know there having one for 360 2008 collection but thats just what i saw from a search on gamestop's website. I would get the game now and get a jump start so once the new classes come around your ready to get those low level groups out of the way.
hmm does anyone have that 30 day buddy pass thing they can send to me so i can start playing while waiting for the expanasion. My local gamestop doesnt have the game anymore, just went. thanks
best buy 20 bucks all 3 expansions packs and evne if they made a combo with WoG it would still have the normal WoG price on it. so might as well just buckle down dish out $20.
found a copy of the dvd at target, of all places...
wow the ffxi registration process is one of the most frustrating online experience ever. Jesus christ you would think you are trying to join the secret service. I think i must accepted at least 10 term of service agreements and typed in my name address 3 times....the damn thing still wont let me play. Now it's forcing me to take a survey, that's like another 3 pages to fill out #*)(@&#(*@&#(@*&!!!!!
anyway i will be on asuya as gagaliya if they ever let me play, if you see a wimpy looking taru taru whitemage running around getting killed, that would be me !
Ya it is a long process but its worth it. It lessens the gil traders and such making FFXI probably the most secure money trader prevented game out there, also looking forward to another Asura player.
I just bought FFXI online and it should be here sometime this week. I will be a taru taru blackmage. Since I am new I was wondering if anyone would give me there name and server or pm me on my pol account (my pol name is mannaknight). I tried it earlier this year on my playstation but stopped the month i started the account. I just baught the game for my xbox 360 (i have a usb keyboard/mouse all that stuff for it). It would be very helpful to know someone i can whisper to in game for help on missions and stuff.
i too am playing on my 360 and just wondering where i can get a usb keyboard i looked on EB games website but i did not see it just wondering where you purchased yours
well....I don't own a console but....can't you use almost any USB keyboard?? might want to try newegg.com or something...
Like he said, any usb keyboard will work. I prefer wireless. Try something like http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8332397&st=keyboard&lp=11&type=product&cp=1&id=1175389041686
I hope this helps
You will pull your hair out soon on the challenge.
What you will find normally other games doesn't have is "time limit"
FFXI have many time limit on certain events hence making them very hard. Not to mention, this game really make you cry when come to doing hard missions. Specific group is needed!
BRD might be very easy to level, but aside from leveling "NO else ONE WANT YOU!" People won't keep a brd in for missions. BCNM wise they are hardly used. some ISNM use brd.
and many stuff are group job specific. I replaced a rdm as a COR and we fail!
I was doing ZM 16 (last of the zilaat mission) with a full group of 75 Nin, samx2 , smn, blm, Cor. After 10 attempts, we can't even get the boss down to his 2nd form. Because every attacks the mages dies (their fault not /nin). While smn can't /nin so therefore we end up wiping over and over.
none
The time limits can definitely add some challenge factor...(CoP mission 6-4 anyone?) It's still quite rewarding when you get through it though.
On ZM 16, you're just using the wrong strategy. Half of our party (melee) had /nin, the other half (mages) didn't. After about 3-4 different tries, I found a working strategy. We didn't even have any deaths on the first or second form. Plus, we didn't even need 2hrs on the first form. So, it's not their fault for not /nin, your tank just isn't keeping hate and keeping it away from the mages. Before we found our winning strategy, I believe my wife went from 30k exp at 75 to 9k just from that mission.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.
