Hey all - having trouble getting the damned game to work!!! Have registered on NC Soft, plugged in my 30 day free key, got a username / password etc. Loaded up the main game entered my details, pressed submit (or whatever it is) and.....
pc crash.
I tried it last night and this morning.
Anyone come across this or have any ideas? I got this game on a recommendation and I can't even play it :-(
I tried looking for help on the main website but there is nothing at all to help.
cheers
chris

are you running an nvidia-based motherboard?
if so you might want to remove the Network Access Manager if you have it installed - this has been known to cause issues with a lot of onlinegames, not just TR
I was suffering from the occasional blue screen when running TR (and other games), until I removed it
Hey abhaigh, cheers for replying.
Going to sound really dumb now, how do I know if the motherboard is NVidia based? I assume it isn't because it's set up for crossfire, but......it's an ECS motherboard, can't remember the exact type though and I'm at work so can't check atm. rest of the pc is
E6600 core2duo
x1950pro
2gb DDR2 800
other stuff not worth mentioning ;-)
Some more specifics (what's happening at the time of the crash and your Dxdiag.txt file) would probably help, though I'd recommend using the PlayNC support for that. You might be able to get some feedback on the forums based on your system and the error message, but that's what the Tech Support staff is there for, and they have a whole book full of solutions (and probably a tier or two of more advanced techs to refer the problem to if they can't fix it).

Thanks Jenuviel, I'll try that link. I did look on NCSoft but couldn't find anything other than basic FAQ's...in my defence I had just woken up ;-)
Is it easy to get the Dxdiag file? Must admit I've never heard of it.
As for what is happening, it crashes as soon as I've entered my username and password and press log in. No BSOD, just a complete hang. ctrl alt delete does nothing. Can only get out my turning off the pc at the base which is never good.
I will double check my graphics drivers just in case, but have never had problems running Guild Wars, WoW, plus games via Steam before which is why I think it's something to do with this particular game.
Cheers for helping out though!
I'm the last person to ask when it comes to tech problems. My knowledge extends as far as...well, getting rid of spyware and finding dxdiag. Speaking of which, if you're running Windows XP, go to the "run" option and type "dxdiag" in there (sans the quotation marks). Just that simple. In Vista, just type "dxdiag" in the search box at the bottom of the Windows Start column. There should be an option to save it as a text file or an XML file. I'd save both, since you never really know what the tech support guys are going to want, but the text version is the one you'll be copy/pasting to forums. It's pretty darned lengthy, though, so I'm not sure a full version will fit here.
EDIT: On that link I gave you, there's a little bit at the bottom for attaching files. You'll want to attach your dxdiag files there, and any crash report the game might have generated. That'll help them a lot.
Don't worry you're definitely helping!
I'm jsut so annoyed, I hate it when things go wrong :-(
I was talked into getting the game by a friend who posts on this site (Chryses if you know him) and was going to level up quickly so I could join up with him at the weekend. Now I'm jsut going to be a low level noob, if I can ever get on!
Poor me, my pc hates me etc etc (where are the violins when you need them?)
Well, on the bright side, the game's been really stable for me, with the exception of that memory leak. Even with that, I'm rarely logged on long enough for it to become a big problem (though I do have a lot of RAM). Once you get past your log-in issues, you should be all set to go. It's no fun having a present when you can't get the wrapping off of it, but at least you know it's in there. I'm sure that must be some comfor-...well...no, probably not.
I suppose it sort of helps......ish...... ;-)
Saying that I have had numerous issues with my pc, maybe this is just an extension of those problems. Hopefully NC Soft will come back to me soon and give me the answer I need!
Out of interest, it asked me what named server I'm on when I contacted support. I'm in the UK - any idea what that name is?
Can I ask another dumb question.
Was just checking on tabula rasa wiki page to see if I was doing anything wrong. It says in the beginners guide that I need to download the Tabula Rasa installer from ftp.playtr.com. It's meant to be about 3gb in size.
Well.......as I bought a boxed copy all I did was insert the disc into my drive and run the installation. I assumed that would install the whole game. I have got an NC Soft launcher thing installed pus Tabula Rasa game installed (i.e. click on the short cut and it goes straight to the game). Have I actually not installed everything I need to???
As far as the server, that shouldn't matter since you haven't actually chosen a server yet. I think that's just for cases involving specific characters. There is a Euro server, but you can choose any server you like. With regard to the Wiki page, I believe that's referring to beta information. I'm not sure if the Euro edition is identical to the North American version, but if it is, you just pop in the DVD and install the software. Nothing else is required. (You might need .net framework installed, but I'm not sure on that one. If it's required, though, there should be an option to install it from the DVD).
Interesting....I've got problems with .net framework at the moment - when I last updated my ATI drivers everything crashed and I had to re-install windows. I'll be installing.net version 3 over the weekend - maybe that will sort it out!!!!
I have had a similar problem with my old rig. It usually crashed at moments where loads of info had to be processed in MMO's. Like when starting up, entering a heavy area or ending combat.
I think i should look into this on that one as well
Hey everybody
Got home from work last night, tried to load the game just on the off chance and it worked!!! No idea why but I'm not questioning it....!
Ran through the newbie section and I think I will quite like this. Took me a little while to get used to it, and I think the AI of the NPC's leaves a little bit to be desired, but it seems quit solid so far. And at least it's different. Reminds me very much of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, the first one where you didn't start off as a jedi of course
Well anyway, thanks a lot for all your help, hopefully I'll see some of you on the front. pm me if you want my character name and we can meet up and kill some Bane together
