Dragoon!

Hey guys,

I've always been totally in love with this class concept, role, and idea (not to mention the badass armor and spears), and I want to make a push for Dragoon when I start playing FFXI this weekend. From the research I did, starting as WAR is the best if I want to go pure DPS

I don't really know all about the stats or how much of a difference it is going to make long-term, so what stats should I focus on at start? I like the way Hume looks, but is that ideal?

Also, I might suck my brother in with me. What is a good DPS/healing buddy for a dragoon?

Thanks! :D I tried this on release and want to give it another shot.

I still think pure dps would be drg/sam , drg/war would be more suriviablitiy perhaps but as for a dps/healer ahhh red mage/black mage? or maybe summoner/white mage. Only down side to a dragoon is there not popular for groups there pretty solo loner types.

I like the class concept, look, and feel too much to worry about usability endgame. Soloing isn't that bad for me, and like I said, I'll probably be partnered up with my brother for most of it.

I was just reading that DRG/WAR is nice because of warcry and the extra damage. I'm going to be whoring the polearms, so I'll probably train that up while leveling warrior to 30.

The happy thing about this game is that I can just start leveling jobs whenever I want to try something different. If I find I hate melee, I can just swap out to WHM or BLM or something and mix it up that way.

Do the races really make a huge difference, endgame? Their stats, I mean. I just want to know if that should even be a deciding factor for me at character creation, or if the stat differences are noticable enough to make a huge difference end-game.

Thanks ^^. I'll be starting up tonight/tomorrow on Asuna, since that seems to be the place to go.

some would argue that starting race matter , but I think the only things race effects is early level stats , if you are the race of your starting city for there little ring and there physical appearance and animations differ. Only bad thing humes annoy me about is how they hold there spear like there left handed when there obviously all right handed. But hand prefernace is something no one has in games guess its to detail of customization would be a nice touch though, That all being said a taru taru warrior with the same lvl and gear as a galka warrior would still have alittle less hp and such. Some races make bad class choices but there all playable by any race stats are just stats end game you can balance them out. So in the end just be what you want to be.

Another person on Asura!  This is great.

Race, aside from looks, just defines what kind of gear (stats) you will need.  For melee jobs a Tarutaru will need Str and HP, an Elvaan will need Dex/Accuracy, and a Hume can just concentrate on the most important stats for whatever job (Str for damage, Vit for tanking, etc.).  It's a little harder for some races with certain jobs, like Tarutaru tanks or Galka mages, but they can still do very good.  A Taru can out-tank a Galka.  Stats aren't nearly important as how well one plays the role of their job.

Since you seem to be looking into Humes, you shouldn't have to worry about a stat weakness with any job.  And don't worry about a lack of any strengths either, you'll be able to compete with anyone for damage or whatever else you're trying to do.

The SAM vs. WAR as a sub for DRG thing is debatable.  WAR has some very good DPS abilities (Berserk, Double-Attack).  SAM is only a good option for a DRG sub at higher levels anyway.
