Screen Size?

Leedsboi86Leedsboi86 Member Posts: 25

Hi!

On alot of videos and screenshots I seen on EQ2 it's showing the screen inside like a Black Box thing around the endge.

Is there anyway to make the screen full size so it covers all the screen instead of just inside the black box

Yes, there absolutely is. Some people just prefer the letterbox display so you do not have the game text covering the playing field. It can absolutely be full screened though. You can resize that letterbox or completely remove it.

    Can my PC Handle EQ2?

CPU Type: DualCore Intel Pentium D 820, 2800 MHz (14X200)

    System Memory: 2048MB

Graphics Card: RADEON X600 256MB Hyper Memory Secondry)256mb)

    Graphics Card #2: RADEON X600 256MB Hyper Memory(256MB)

    CPU Speed: 2800MHz

    How good/bad will it play?

  • VercinVercin Member UncommonPosts: 372

ought to play just fine on that system. There are 7 different performance settings i believe, you ought to be able to do 1 or 2 steps above balanced. maybe not in a  raid if you do that but for regular group play it would be fine

you can customize the display settings though, like you probably won't care about off screen shadows and such

So whats it gonna look like with them settings ish?

Cause I played FFXI and loved tha for it's graphics but I seen some REALLY BAD EQ2 Screenshot graphics

  • VercinVercin Member UncommonPosts: 372

This is just my opinion obviously but i think eq2 is one of the best mmos out when it comes to world and character graphics and even on balanced it looks good to me.

you can always download that fae trial and try it out see if you like and and get a good idea of how it will run before buying it.

    Cool thanks!

So how come I seen some REALL Bad screenies?

I tried WoW and graphics on there was ok, Very childish tho

  • VercinVercin Member UncommonPosts: 372

Well any setting below balamced will start to look pretty bad, but that is true with any game.

I don't have an active account at the moment or i would post you a screenshot, however i use an 8800gtx so i played the game on ultra high settings. It would look really great

I got my PC from DELL not long ago so not sure what it can do lol

It played FFXI like a dream tho,

I can tell you right now...you will suffer horribly with the X600...as it is not really a "dedicated" video card...

    Read this

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HyperMemory

" Hypermemory is a method of using a PC's main system RAM as part of or all of the video card's framebuffer memory on their line of Radeon video cards"

You will have to turn off a lot of features to get anything good out of the game...or suffer slowdowns, swapping to virtual memory...it will be ugly

Graphically...it will be ugly also...sorry. I know people say you can run it...but, this is the way it will look

    http://www.nvnews.net/articles/everquest_2_graphics/images/extreme_performance_1.jpg

Note the ground and clothing textures...and notice no shadows..(heck my 8800GTS can barely run with shadows..)...

So...yes, you can run it...but your comments about ugly screenshots...well, think of those even worse.

    Cheers!

lol I don't think they could be worse then the screenshots I've seen.

actualy been looking into EQ2 and startin to look kinda basic compared to afew other games.

Don't get me wrong it looks decent but I think all in all even with max graphics set, FFXI still kicks it's ass, might wait for FFXI expansion n go back

    forgot to add

Why does my machine show as havin 2 Video cards?

    Both the X600 by radeon

    Why would it need 2?

This is a joke...right? Here to troll?

Honestly...there is NO WAY FFXI beats EQ2 graphics...grainy visual settings, horrible controls that are non-conventional...80% group based content (if not more)...
But, each have their own opinion...but I will give an example of graphics
    EQ2

(These are the highest quality images of FFXI I could find...so, if someone can post some 1024x768 or higher pictures...would help)
Just some examples...but, if I had to choose based on those 2...well...EQ2 wins hands down..
I also have some examples here
    http://mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/149352
As well as some other peoples examples also...sorry...but, EQ2 handily beats so many other games visuals...lol..
But, I will assume you were kidding...and uh...good luck with that FFXI thing..
    Cheers!

Probably because you have dual monitor outputs, or a least the graphics has the capability of dual displays.

  • Leedsboi86Leedsboi86 Member Posts: 25

Cool about the dual monitor but incording to DELL it's not for that, They have said the cards run with each other.

and to the other guy, Just cause you like EQ2 doesn't make it the better then any other game, My Opinion is FFXI is better then EQ2

By the way where did you find the FFXI screenshots? They are VERY Bad ones!

    Agreed

The reason why I asked for better screens.  If you have some to share?

Doing a google search for EQ2 high quality screenshots gave me the ones I had linked to...replace EQ2 with FFXi...well, you see what I get...all I found was that junk

Also, the Square site is not very well laid out..and what I did find there...looked just as bad if not worse..(640x480 screens..lol)...

But, even looking here...I find stuff like this

    http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/gameId/74/setView/screens/display/538 (Grainy)

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/gameId/74/setView/screens/display/536 (look at the water...it ...uh...does not look like water)

For you ...you may find FFXI pleasing visually ...or a better game to play...for you...but, you were not arguing the gameplay mechanics...

     The engine looks dated...

Maybe with the X600, FFXI may look better than EQ2...but, this is like arguing the merits of visuals...like WoW...the cartoon style is appealing to some (I find the visuals in WoW better than FFXi also...), but others think it looks dated.

By stating "Don't get me wrong it looks decent but I think all in all even with max graphics set, FFXI still kicks it's ass, might wait for FFXI expansion n go back" that is what I argue about.

There are just more realistic visuals in EQ2...sorry...Quality wise...EQ2 wins hands down

    Cheers!

it should be fine with what you've got, just the gfx card is a bit weak, get yourself a 8800 gt, good value for money.

and EQ2 looks a lot better then ffxi imo, lots more details, but i dont like the armors, looks all the same with different color!

  • DrFodDrFod Member Posts: 63

IMO, EQ2 looks like crap on low settings. Turn it up to Balanced or higher and the game comes alive, the spell and combat animations are second to none.

I got an aging 6600GT and can just about play in balanced settings for solo or group play, turning it down to high perf for raiding. A 8600GT is definitely on my shopping list tho, would be interested if anyone has one and can raid at 1600x1200 with all settings maxed.

I have to agree that FFXI's graphics are crappy compared to EQ2's. All i remember when playing FFXI is very grainy visuals. Sometimes I couldn't tell certain things apart from each other. It was originally built for PS2 and PC so that's probably why, because it definitely reminded me of the graphics common on PS2 game engines.

Tried the EQ2 Trial and wasn't impressed at all,

Looked ok just wasn't the kinda game I'm after.

I tried setting the graphics on all diffrent settings and still didn't impress.

Guess it's just not the game for me.

That..I feel...is a better reason to not like the graphics. The "style" was not to your liking, and that is understandable.

I remember trying to play EQ2 over the last 2 years...and not until I saw the game on an Nvidia based 7x series then my new 8x series card...did I realize how gorgeous the game was. Also, I loaded the SOGA models...which made the game feel more Anime based (FFX styled) that I was hooked...

But, the area styles for example can vary...some look good, and some look bland (Antonica is SOO bland, that I refuse to play Qeynos side anymore...lol)

And finally...if my game looked like a slideshow (which it would at any quality setting on the ATI)..I would hate it also...

Good luck though...and cheers to you
