Doesn't say much for AoC but says a lot for the devs of TCoS who at this stage have something this good to show. Props to them for a great vid, seems its getting a lot of people excited, and rightfully so.

There were only 15 seperate individual players in that video - no more - just the people out of the office like the guy said at any one time - I counted 14..  There wasn't anything 'large' about it, maybe you need to re-evaluate your definition of large? (hope not upsetting to some) Warhammer has only shown a couple of dozen people in PvP too - max for supposed large scale sieging.

Not taking anything away from TCoS though, but how could 15 people be counted as a proper stress test? Well its a start, forsure, it shows how they hope it to work out which IS good.

If everyone has the same stat armor and health - is that also true for the weapons, range weapons mentioned, and the spells shown?

If everything is equal then thats pretty cool, but the game still looks like the mentality will be DPS based wins with all health being equal, with people running prefered build, same as lots of other mmorpg's. The skill comes from dodging, knowing your enemy, and ability of the player in control to make the right decisions. In an auto attack system its pretty hard to dodge when fireballs say, follow you around, directional attack offer something better in that you can counter and defend better, like in AoC you know your weaker side therefore having the ability to make adjustments.

Things are lookign good though, better each time I take a peak at the game,  =)

Just to point out to people above, Directional Attacks in AoC are based on Melee attacks mainly.

To AmazingAvery: The video probably didn't show the whole stress test. In a recent statement, which you can find at tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php, they say this:

You most likely have encountered in your past or even present gaming experiences serious downtimes or even server crashes when many players gathered in the same place. This can be very frustrating and I dare say annoying if it happens on a large scale. Brace yourselves, because during one of our internal stress tests we simulated more than 500 players in real gaming conditions in one single zone (Hawk’s Landing/Hawksmouth) without any crashes or other downtime. This might not look so extraordinary at first glance, but trust me, for a game with heavy action-based combat and such AI; this is one heck of a feat for an MMO. This might even mean we might not need the “silent instancing/copying system” mentioned on the forums in the past (take that with great care, we still need to assess such possibilities). So not only is it a great achievement, it is also very, very, good news! This marks our truly professional and amazing cooperation between our in-house devs and the Korean reinforcements. Way to go guys!

Im just glad COSB and WAR can use players instead of bots to show PVP and content.

Why put a video out saying stress test with a dozen players then? I was addressing the guy I quoted who thought it was large scale. The same words have been said from a few devs in games still in beta atm, but it has not been shown yet from any of them.

The title of this thread is skill based combat video, yet the wordage in the video is stress test.

Imo it shows off more combat mechanics (which look cool I might add) not really a "stress test" - why dont we see 500 players in real gaming conditions in one zone? And whats the definition of "real gaming conditions"? Can that be said when all animations are included for all models?

However, the dev's word is good enough for me for now, proof will be "in the pudding" as they say, and that will be great day if they can pull that off. Its like me quoting a dev for AoC who says they specifically said they have had 262 people in a fight at once, but only got 1 frame every 10 mins lol (which they did say on tape). But they won't show that, not to mention AoC's characters seen so far have over 2500 animations each where as in this video a lot is still being worked upon in that area.

But this isn't about AoC its about this being a skill based video - for me - more than a stress test. And there is nothing wrong in that. I just had a couple questions how it will work out in the post above.

24 people for war is hardly large scale...

Well I agree, by typical mmorpg standards it wasn't 'large'. But compared to the 2v2 pvp footage from AoC, I think it could certainly be considered large. Or perhaps just as valid, the AoC combat footage could have been considered very small.

This TCoS vid sort of came out of nowhere to me, no one was really expecting it or asking for it like with AoC, the devs just thought during their regular testing, "hey, we've got something cool to show, so lets show it." They didn't whine about 'how hard it is to get a few people together'. Or how they couldn't find enough pc's for people to use. They just did it because they actually have something good and they wanted to share, which is how it should be.

There was no doctored up imagery, trying to create a fake hyped impression that the game is like a movie. It was some random testing, very real, very chaotic (not planned out), and apparently, very fun. That even a random testing event full of level 1 characters could look good and fun is a credit to the game.

14 people with 14 PC's in the office.

You wont see 500 PC's at a convention in one area. Its been said today if you havent read yet that large scale pvp for AoC will be shown in a few weeks time, thats good enough for me 4 months from launch.

While you re-evaluating your definition of 'large', check out 'doctored' in relation to 'game trailer' as well.

I expect this type of vid from TCoS just like there last one was intriguing. The game deserves more attention forsure.

Funcom has an office and 14 people, and yet no vid.  So may I direct you back to my initial post which summoned the knight in shining armor to save the damsel in distress - it doesn't say much for funcom, but it does for TCoS for their willingness to show not just footage, but footage that had a purpose other than just advertising (and that purpose was in-house testing). Dare I say, real footage (gangsta real).

But I'm glad we can both really agree on one point - TCoS definitely deserves far more notice and rating by the gaming community at large than it has received so far. Pity about the US release but, I suppose its only fair.

My original impression when they first posted this video on the tcos website was that it was shot at the same time as the 500 player stress test.  Mabye I happened to see the video and read the stress test article at the same time and mistakeningly came to this conclusion.  Judging by the general response of some of the other posters the two instances are entirely unrelated, but it is much more impressive to look at from my point of view.
