I need a long time MMORPGer to tell me about this game.

I have been playing all type of games genres and I have basically quit playing pay-per-month MMOs because of college, and the addiction behind them. I am basically just looking for a good game to play every now and then without having to pay money over time.

If there is any veteran MMOers out there that have played this game up to a high lvl that can tell me about it, if you pay per month, or just for the box.

If it has good rpg/free-roam value to it, wont get boring after lvl 20(always doing the same thing over and over). Is it online with other players? Or just an alone RPG

Ive looked at a lot of other games and there just arent any that meet my standards.

I have been looking into that Assassin's Creed game coming out soon, but I dont own console system, and my guess is it wont be coming out on PC for a few months.

If you have any other suggestions let me know.

Much appreciated  -Banzimp

You can play for free if you like, the subscription is optional. I can't say if you would like it though, since it is pretty linear. They limit where you are allowed to go based on the quests you have completed. Imagine Diablo II except you HAD to do every quest, in order, right away, and instead of huge sweeping fields full of demons ripe for the killing, it's a handful of annoying little imps that jump or fly around and are never really a threat. In fact, I've never even come close to dying except against a boss, and even they aren't that difficult. The maps are quite narrow too, from what I've seen, usually limited to a few rooms, or a couple of sewer pipes, or an underground railway tunnel, etc etc.

You don't have to complete every quest to advance;  just the main storyline one. Maybe you are just a really good player because my level is in the low 20's and I'm having a lot of trouble advancing with my summoner. Tormenters are killing me. There are a lot of repetitive tile sets but there are some intriguing sets too, like the Millenium Battle. I'd say HG:L is a pretty good Single Player game that could be better. But the multi-player needs a ton of work. You can purchase the game for $40 at Amazon.com (last I checked) and IMO the Single Player is worth it but not the subscription. BTW you can still play online without subscribing and still receive most of the benefits.

I would call that linear, since you will hit closed doors until you have jumped through certain hoops. Free roaming means that you can go to every bit of the map, whenever you want. And that's not possible in Hellgate.

I hate to say it but this game isn't your typical MMO. It is very similar to Diablo 2 style of gameplay in terms of classes/item drops ( sorry had to put that in there). Everything else is very different. It is NOT a game that you can hardcore 14 hours a day and expect to be playing 3 weeks later without being bored to death. I work a lot and have very very limited time. I am currently in elite mode with a level 15 summoner ( you need around level 30 normal and beat the game in order to get elite mode).

This is the perfect "hop in when you have time" game with some great graphics, straight forward storyline and character classes. This however doesn't have the depth the some of the more in-depth mmos such as EQ, EQ2.

    Basically to sum it up

Pros: Good graphics, quick gameplay, amazing music, very casual friendly

Cons: Lack of content for the non-payer in the near future, lack of depth of typical mmo, seems very anti-social with an extreme lack of chat, environments get to you after a while ( they have about 4 different ones).
