Why the Over-Hype?

MMORPG used to get decent ratings from its users but lately it's been getting reviews that are way undeserved. LOTR Online started at an 8.5 above all other MMOs and luckily got knocked down to what it deserved.Now Tabula Rasa is seeing the same thing (not that it's a bad game, just in no way #1). We'll probably see the same thing with every new major MMO from here on too.
What's with people submitting reviews so damn early? Is it that hard to wait at least a month or so before saying "OMG BEST MMO I've EVER PLAYED"...because ya know it's probably not in the end.

Maybe you should just wait a month before reading the reviews? And by the way, so far, I am really enjoting this game.
Well I'm sure you are it would be pretty bad if you weren't after only 2 weeks...that's exactly my point LOL. No reviews should even be submitted yet but it's already the #1 MMO...which probably isn't right overall...
Good idea reading a month later though haha that actually makes sense.
It's only had around 180 ratings so far, wait until it gets a couple thousand for the score to settle down.
And this sites top 7 rated MMORPG's is a pretty rubbish feature anyway, along with its rating system. How many people have given games they dislke all the 1's, and all the favored games straight 10's ?
And TR is far from over hyped.
Games I would say that were "overhyped" Vanguard for one "the next WOW killer" *chuckles*.Number two hyped game" LOTRO". I think that game and WOW was the fastest games to get booted from my computer to date.
This game is very different than the "yawn at my computer" hack and slash, raid titles that try and mirror EQ1-2 and WOW.
It's sickening, to see a lot of people bash this game on here due to it not fitting their liking. I don't think that the game is like SWG NGE as those that played it a hour or two have said (I can't mash buttons at the keyboard and kill every mob in the game "asleep" like in SWG).
If you don't think the game is to your liking ,just wait til buddy passes come out to make your judgement but as I said in one of my post before, " this game was needed and gets a warm welcome from me, as it is different than the repetious fantasy, MMO copycrap genre that continually floods the market each year with "bull shizzle".
Whatever function is used to calculate the rating seems to overinflate it when the number of ratings is still low. It evens out over time.
Remember that every game has it's share of people that rate all 1's or all 10's.
SWG had difficulty levels boosted by a lot a while back. There is no way you can mash buttons now.
imho we should wait until "free month" will pass
so the people who WILL pay the sub will pay,
the rest of them (who will see the most of game content btw)
will cancel the sub.
and then - most of them will reconsider their scores
and TR will get what it deserves...
I have been playing mmo's sence AC came out (played for 6 straight of its 8 years) and counter-strike sence before it came out ...Yes before steam too ... My point if this game is everyting a true gamer can want a little of everyting it even as a real time rts style with the PvE control points and ... well if you dont like this game thats fine but you are showing nub styles.
I think there was even a sword type weapon i saw! Look at the screens read the info take damn look befor you close you're eyes other wise you will never know what you are missing... And WoW was a waste of money and time... money cuz it wasnt even worth paying for the electrice to have my computer on to play it. Anyway I had to share that.

Ad revenue and other perks and doo-dads work wonders for reviews and ratings.
Skewed numbers are easily controlled on a website that exists on money from the companies making games, no one checks whether those numbers are biased or not.
It's just like watching Fox news.
I guess that mmorpg.com WANTS to have a hype level as well, they could have just simply disabled the rating first month after launch...but they didn't

The most overhyped game of all time that spent milions of dollars on advertising campaign before release was WoW BY FAR. At the time Vanguard was about to ship they ran out of money and the advertisment campaign was almost non-existent. Yes there were some hyped interviews with Bred but overall the game had no attention in any media.

But I like the idea of battling NPC for control points which is a great touch and of course....its a space game which is a great change of pace.
I might give it a go in a few months after things have settled down a bit....

Your first mistake was viewing the list as a solid source of game rankings. People are allowed to vote how ever they want and it represents that. I agree the list doesnt jive with what I see as reality, but I also dont presume I am the final say on what game deserves what score as you do. It is an opinion poll nothing more.
Maybe it's not the best MMO for you, but for the people who rated it high that made the average 8.5, it, you know, is their #1 MMO.
I mean, is it ridiculous to think that people may have a different opinion? That they may consider this to be their #1 MMO? Are they wrong to think differently then the OP?
I honestly rated the game based off of my current experiences with it, and my average came out to a 8.9.
Will that change an another week? Another month? Who knows.
I understand you are trying to say "this game is overrated becuase it's only been out 2 weeks" but what it sounds like you are saying is "this game doesn't deserve to be #1 because I don't like it and your opinion should = mine."

The most overhyped game was WoW? 9 million players and billions and billions of dollars later, I don't think it was overhyped. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it didn't live up to the hype, surpass the hype, and leave the hype in the dust
There is no PvP so no rush to lvl your char to face any challengue in the future. So no rush to buy the game, better wait for free trial and check if it is worth paying.

If you understand PvP as a duel, then yes, any game is PvP. So no point to pay for me yet, but you want to cheat yourself thinking its PvP okkkkk

WOW ... OMG.... NOOB! here is the entier pvp system drawn out for you ...And I quote.

Wargames can be conducted by individual players wishing to “duel” each other, or as squad based challenges where two teams square off against each other. These are meant to be short, consensual affairs that only last until the battle is over, or one of the two sides surrenders.
A Clan War is a persistent state of open warfare lasting 7 days, during which, all members of a clan clan are “flagged” to actively engage in PvP. Not just anyone can come by and attack you dusing a clan war however. A clan must first declare war on you and that challenge must be accepted by the Clan leader. This mean what? OH! wait Conituos PvP ... that is if you have the balls to go to war...PvP does not make mmorpgs, mmorpgs it makes them mmopvps. If you want a pvp game I know a great one ... COUNTER-STRIKE dont come to a rpg site and dog on rpgs just cuz you like mmopvp... there is pvp here but not as much as some of the other titles this puplisher has put out ...... Omg! nub!... I am talking to anyone saying this is a crappy game just cuz its not a mmopvp!... lol... How can you tell a pvper from a rpger? they didnt read this far into it!
